Yeah, can't argue with that. Mandating that drivers are loaded from floppy = built-in obsolescence. Not a problem with a streamlined/nlite'd XP install but I appreciate that's hassle in itself, and most people would never bother. Yeah, that's kind of embarrassing. I'd argue about Vista being more responsive, though. That just hasn't been my experience on new PCs. Plus the amount of extraneous crap you have to turn off far outstrips XP's setup time, in my opinion.
In fact... By the way, wasn't this thread called "Post your desktop pic"? I'm ok with a XP Vs. Vista discussion, but I don't think this is the right thread to do it...
Yeah, you can turn on run in Vista, it's just not on by default. But I don't see what the big deal is, I mean, you can just type in the path of the application you want to run right from the start menu and it will pull it right up. Its much more convenient than XP. Its like having Launchy built in.
I've always found Vistas search feature to be sort of annoying. It never searches the WHOLE drive for what I want. I know its probably an option somewhere, but what do I change to get rid of quick search? 90% of the time I can't find what I want on my PC with the quick search.
Well, back when my quick launch was 3 by 3 of stuff, I found it to be convenient. Oh, and I can see the date and time a lot more clearly, have more windows open, etc. Its not clustered up anyway.
Here's the desktop of my new Hackintosh Netbook. Running Leopard 10.5.5 on my Acer Aspire One. Everything is working minus sleep, wifi kinda works, but i used a netgear usb wifi stick instead! Ryan
Oh man, I am so going to have to do this. I wonder if that touchscreen that's floating around works okay in OSX? What is bootup time like?
Boot up is about the same as xp on the one, shutdown is stupidly quick, like 8 seconds max. it runs fairly well. I've logged some good time on it, and can say that it honestly runs as well as xp did on these netbooks! ...now only if the on board wifi worked better (still using usb adapter!) Ryan
Ryan, I guess you like classic Minis, huh? Cool! My sister is mad about them, as is my friend. He currently has a highly modified standard Mini, a Clubman, a Clubman shell he's heavily modifying, a Mini trailer and plans to make a Mini lorry!!
What hackintosh are you using? The kalyway one or Leo4all? I really need to give this a shot on my laptop too.
My new and probably last for a while desktop as i usually change my desktop every few days but i think i'll keep this up for a while.
