Regarding the red LEDs - thanks! That confirms that they are NOT warning lights, but are meant to come on as part of the boot sequence.

I have just finished downloading Redhat 5.2 - I'll try and get to the PS2 Tool later on tonight, but this weekend is pretty busy. I will await your checks of your system. Looking forward to hearing how successful the HDD dump is.

As slow and terrible and non gui-ey as it may sound, I vote for using good old reliable dd, problem is, its not very conforming to well, anything else :/

I'm thinking of using g4u http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/ unless you have a better solution.

Acronis seems too windows oriented, I can't stand the xp/vista-esque interface and I don't want a 100megs software when a 4megs one can do better, so forget about it.

dd might be an alternative if everything else fails, but I'd rather not end with a 30gig file...

Parris, turn off the damn thing!

    There's Scotland-France tomorrow, enjoy it!

The weather now reminds me of the week-end I spent in and near Glasgow except it might be a little hotter, that was in november, 2 years ago I think, all scotts were wearing summer clothes, I was litteraly freezing...

I don't understand the northern british mentality of wearing so few clothes irrespective of the weather. When it's cold I personally wrap up warm, wear scarves, thick jumpers and a jacket. Ever been to Newcastle? It's even worse there for some odd reason. You are considered abnormal if you wear anything on a cold day - the women look like icicles in their skimpy stuff with the freezing winds sweeping up off the north sea! Nutters!

I dumped the first hdd but I "may" have ran into a problem, so Parris you should test it as you have nothing to lose except time maybe, I'll PM you the details now.
