    Hi,

i encountered one game in which the audio CD tracks not works at all, it's the game
    Cool Boarders 2 PAL (SCES-00992).
Is very rare because i tested a lot of games with audio CD tracks and all worked, this is
the first with all the tracks muted.

It's a fail of the emulation or the CUE2POPS v2.0 can't read properly the audio CD tracks
    for this game?

    Regards.

Tried out Putter Golf (NTSC/US). Ripped cd from my original converted with CUE2POPS v2.0. Game is in bin/cue format and cue sheet shows no music tracks. Music is weird at the title screen and in game. The songs change at random sometimes playing halfway through, otherwise the game plays perfect.

Hey, just tried Fighting Force (NTSC/US)

Music in the opening EIDOS video does not play and when you start the game, the music for the first level does not play either
(using a BIOS.BIN in the VMC folder fixes the music for the EIDOS vid only). As soon as you start level 2, the music plays fine.
I used CUE2POPS v2.0 to convert the .bin & .cue and POPStarter Rev.12 to try it out

    Thanks for a great emu!

Which version did you try? FF has 3 versions; v1.0 >> v1.2.

Ok, I have the collectors edition too and the Japanese version (which I tried).

FF also has a PAL release and it came out in Japan as Metal Fist. The cheat menu you access at the pick player/options screen - hold R2, L1, Square and left has an extra option only in Metal Fist - 2 player detection off, which lets you and player 2 not hit each other :)

Metal Fist has the same music problem.

This is a SONY internally developed PS1 emulator (which runs differently than the original PS1 emulation which is native on the PS2 BIOS ROM) which was supposed to allow SONY to sell PS1 games through PSBBN since they would load from the PS2 harddrive instead of a disc. This was protected with HEAVY DRM until in 2010 a fellow member of this forum decrypted it upon my request. After that it spent almost three years being just a historical sidenote until someone discovered how to make it boot without the original loader and how to make it work with any isos... Then kHACKen came up with this marvelous application popsloader. Rest is history.

Because SONY was worried about this happening, they removed it from the PSBBN site a month after HD LOADER released. lol you see they were right about worrying. But still, it only took 8 years until the HDD DNAS protection were defeated. That's quite good for such a protection to hold up, don't you agree ?

Was it good protection or did nobody care enough? I'm more impressed that even though it was deleted it managed to survive, like the snes sattelaview games.

I tested some Cool Boarder games, first with default Bios then with POPS 6.60 Bios:

SCUS-94356 Cool Boarders Extreme Snowboarding; same behavior, no music.
SCUS-94358 Cool Boarders 2; as you tested, same behavior, no music.
SCUS-94251 Cool Boarders 3: graphics, sfx and music ok, game runs fine.
SCUS-94559 Cool Boarders 4: graphics, sfx and music ok, game runs fine.
SCUS-94597 Cool Boarders 2001: graphics, sfx and music ok, game runs fine.

I guess CB 1 and 2 use the same game engine...

SLUS-00433 Fighting Force v1.0; Eidos intro no sound, with 6.60 bios sound ok, no music in level 1 with or without 6.60 bios.
SLUS-00433 Fighting Force v1.1; Eidos intro ok with built-in bios, no music in level 1 with or without 6.60 bios.
SLUS-00433 Fighting Force v1.2; Eidos intro ok with built-in bios, no music in level 1 with or without 6.60 bios.

    Some other games i've tested:

SLUS-00264 Andretti Racing: game runs fine, minor sound distortion at start of level.
SLUS-00585 Klonoa - Door To Phantomile; game runs fine.
SLUS-00637 N2O - Nitrous Oxyde; game runs fine. Great music btw.

I tryed the first two Cool Boarders in the PAL versions with the gap-- command, but also
not worked, still the tracks are totally mute, i hope krHACKen can throw any light about
what happens to the audio CD tracks of this two games.

    Regards.

It survived because a working copy was kept, along with the matching harddrive. Most times people erase the harddrive, or share the complete harddrive image or even only the files from within the partition without getting the keys from the hardware (harddrive, PS2 eeprom) and keys from the __net partition.

So, for example the copy of Pop'n Music puzzle game which is floating in the internet is an HDD DNAS encrypted/installed copy which can't be decrypted since the dump is incomplete... (Pop'n Taisen Puzzle-Dama Online (Japan) [SLPM-62464].iso)

And since we're talking with stupid in mind, they even converted it into an iso... lol an dump of an HDD game partition converted to ISO.

    Pirates are that funny. :stupid:

Sorry but you got that one wrong. Its also a CD-ROM game that works in offline mode if not played from HDD. (Maybe a DVD-ROM, not sure?)
Maybe that dump can be completed if someone tries to do it once more, but sadly the online DNAS part may not work for add it to the HDD.

No, I am right, because the ISO is USELESS. It was made from dumped files from the HDD, not from the disc.

That seems like something pretty stupid to do. I'm assuming a straight ISO rip wouldn't work or they'd have done that instead (unless simply none of the interested pirates actually had access to an original disc). Is this game like the utility discs in that it would require some good reverse engineering to decrypt the contents (even in single player? I know HDD-capable software is much more heavily protected than "normal" software but even still some games with HDD support will run fine as an ISO from an ODEM, even if it throws an error regarding the HDD due to not being a Sony HDD or due to conflicts with the ODEM).

Also, I remember that Bishi Bashi Special 3 was almost lost for good, if I remember what you'd written a long time ago. I'm just happy it was salvageable :)
