[PS2] POPS stuff & POPStarter

    Dino Crisis freezing when switching to shotgun, how to fix it?

    their is a workaround but it doesnt work for anyone sadly. lets say you need to change from handgun to shotgun equip shotgun but dont use it imidietly exit and re enter the room you are 6-8 times and may be ok if that trick work for you then doit everytime you change weapons and youare golden. if not work for you then change weapon save and restart ps2. my ps2 is a slim pal 77004 and im running from usb

    Never tried POPSLOADER before - but had to now that SMB is implemented - works like a charm.
    I tested King's Field (SLPS-00017) - flickering and general slowdown were fixed by applying compatibility mode 0x4 - seems to run fine now.

    I've switched from using USB mode to SMB, using the latest version (Revision 13, WIP 06, OBT 13).
    Colin McRae 2, TOCA 2 and Power Shovel all work fine on USB. The first two also work on SMB, but Power Shovel (SLUS-01343) freezes on the PS logo screen.
    I've tried compatibility modes and different BIOS versions, but that didn't fix it. Any ideas? Is SMB known to be less compatible than USB or is this an unusual case?

    Ok, I posted at ps2home, assuming this is the form you are referring to. Thanks for your work on this.
    EDIT: is there a google form for SMB mode? I could only see ones for HDD and USB.

    i wonder if ther is a fix for the following games medievil 2 grafical problems. destruction derby 2 no pause menu during races. my pops version is the latest beta. and im running from usb

    ok ive tested resident evil 3 nemesis
    region=pal
    id=sles_025.29
    pops version=latest beta running from usb
    results play through entire game start to finish
    the game is fully playable but their is a small catch. save your game every time you see typewriter the emulator may hang. their is no standar place. it may happend when opening doors item boxes before of after cutscenes. but when you see black screen dont quit popstarter yet. some times its simply take more than usual to load but if black screen stays more than 3-4 minutes then use l1 start select or your custom exit key and restart the game. also their is a bug with the popstarter. when the smooth is enabled you can see the character behind an object. this not only happened in resi 3 but on other games as well.

    Has anyone else noticed the audio breaking up in many games when there is loading activity?
    It's noticeable in all games but, for example, Final Fantasy 5 has it severe.
    I've tried compatibility modes and running off of USB and internal HDD, no change.

    I have noticed this in Colin McRae 2, where the speech breaks up and sometimes the whole game freezes momentarily. I also noticed that it was much less severe on SMB than USB.

    Thanks, guess I'll have to try SMB then as well. Did you notice it in any other titles?
    In my games, it's definitely not CDDA or XA streaming, just regular SPU music that stutters.

    Would be great if we had a way to control medium access speed.
    The PSX is well known for relying on low transfer speeds from CD.
    There is an option in popstarter to control some USB access delays but from what I can tell, it's only effective before pops takes over.

    The stuttering could be due to the fact that POPStarter was built with an old PS2SDK, one with the old homebrew DEV9 module.
    Many moons ago, I removed waiting on a semaphore for DMA completion within the DEV9 module because it resulted in higher overhead than just simply polling on the DMA CHCR register for completion. That overhead also meant that nothing else on the IOP would run, hence stuttering.

    There's also a pfs wrapper built in, that translates from hdd stuff to whatever else the user has. So yea, that could be the case :)
