Would such a hack allow me to run dev code on a retail unit then? It'd save me a shit load not having to drop £££ on a TEST unit!
Was just going to post this. Well I think that pretty much confirms it works. As stated above I bet in a week or two someone will have one out you can just download and install on any memory stick
So, this works like HD loader, but can allow backups to load up on the Bluray drive and download it onto the PS3?
I don't really see the point of this. You can already play imported games on any PS3, no? I guess there are some people who would like to play "backups" on it, but wouldn't they be like 20GB? And if you want to play an emulator, why not just use a computer? Also, $150 sounds pretty expensive for a little piece of plastic.
homebrew + dev builds of games.. etc etc. running your own code on a console that's been closed since launch doesn't sound interesting to you?
The "point" is that there's a way to play pirate games. It won't get any praise here, but this will obviously be its prime purpose for the vast majority of the people who get one. Quite a development, especially given how easy it appears to be to use. Are there any details on how it actually works?
The method of fully powering down the ps3, inserting the stick, powering on ps3 and then quickly pressing the eject button is 100% the same as that for using sony's own jig.
From what I heard, you can only run backups of discs you physically have, it does not work for downloaded games.
Everything "release" groups have put up so far have been no good (they still have the disc layer of encryption)> Linux dumps, pc dumps, SAK dumps. Everyone with dev hardware has been responsible enough not to spread good ones and promote piracy. Surely the warez kiddies will have the net flooded with working ones soon enough.
Their game "manager" is a fself... so they should run just fine. Except the few that need the extra mem the ref tools have.
This is going to be easily blocked, but it will mean a huge revision of firmware and probably a lot of bricking of nominally healthy systems. It also means devs will probably get all new dongles. It should be easily cloned if it lives long enough in the wild ( I doubt it will last long so don't update)
It would seem that clones will be popping up sooner than expected. Hopefully the price will drop to a more reasonable amount now.
Hopefully that will be the case! Lets see how Sony reacts to this. Surely they can't take the USBs out now like they did with the other OS haha
