The system is ugly, the controller is horrendous. I really hope they change the design. Plus using that font is laughable. Can't they just design or use another font?!

Their so called "Chang3" is really bad in terms of design.

Anyway, liked the system specs (The GPU is said to be 2x or 3x more powerful than the latest GeForce 6800 Ultra) and the games already announced.

Killzone, Gran Turismo, Warhawk ( :smt023 ), Tekken 6, Devil May Cry 4,...

And of course backwards compatibility with the PS2 and PS1.

Now i really want to see what Nintendo has to show. Hope we can see their presentation.

Curiously it mentions this: PlayStation 3 DVD-ROM

So some games might be released in this media, instead of the PlayStation 3 BD-ROM (Blu-ray Disc). I understand this as something good, since not all games (specially the launch titles will need the Blu-ray disc).

If you remember, in the PS2 launch there were some games still in CD Media like Ridge Racer V.

Another things that must be talked about:
    - support to 7 Bluetooth devices,
    - Features a removable 2.5 (Laptop sized) Hard Disk Drive (they havent forgot the HDD)
    - SD, Compact Flash, and Memory Stick DUO Slots
    - 6 USB 2.0 Ports!
    - 1080P Res. Using NVIDIA's new chip "RSX", the "Reality Synthesizer"
    - 2+ Teraflops, ( X-Box 360's 1 Teraflop )

I'm surprisinly excited about it bar the awful controller design.

The Warhawk annoncement caught me off guard. Very happy to see a sequel to that game.

I really hope to see some of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Hideo Kojima's new project soon!

What can I say that's not already been said? It's bad :-( Even if it was just a fake render by a thirdy party, it'd be crap.

    I can't believe it.

People complained about how the PS1 looked, people complained about the PS2 looked ALOT, and now people are complaining about how the PS3 looks.

For goodness sake people, at least it doesn't have those bloody grooves that collect dust like the PS2 had. System looks fine to me. But I have 2 major concerns:

    1) That control pad does NOT look beneficial to playing games. Any games actually. I thought they were going to keep the PS2 pad. Thats actually quite good. Damn, I just wish we had the Saturn pad again. It's the only control pad I could ever love. Unbelievably comfortable to hold.

    2) The disc drive. Look at it. Is it one of those slide-in things? I can forsee every game I buy being scratched to hell now as a result. What happened to top loading systems? Every single front loading system I own has ended up with knackered drive tray after a few months. ALL of them. PC. Sega CD. PS2. Xbox.
I was hoping for a top loading system.

Otherwise, why do I even care? I only play retro these days anyway.

    EDIT:
I better ask some tech questions.

    1) How many scrolling parallax background layers can it simaltaneously do?

    2) What's it sprite rotation capabilities like?

    3) Can it "do" mode 7

    4) How many simaltaneous sprites on screen at once?

    5) How do you "be" Goro?

Quite honestly, I liked that old PS2 prototype alot more:

    http://www.rolandit.com/games/Systems/viewsys.asp?SID=21

as well as this fan-made ps3 mockup:

    http://home.btconnect.com/hgi/ps3/spPS3a.html

However, for the most part I don't think this PS3 proto looks all that bad. The main problems im seeing with this design are:

    1. The controller is possibly the worst looking non-3rd party one i've ever seen.
    2. The disc drive should not be the slide-in type, almost no one likes those things.
    3. Why exactly is their 3 lan ports?
    4. Its still using a power button on the back of the console.
    5. Using a PC power supply instead of the one that became standard years ago.

One thing that im not able to back up, but alot of people are saying is that this isn't a real proto. It wouldn't be the first time a prototype was faked but advertised as the real thing by the media. But until I can find some hard evidence on this one, ill assume its the real deal.

edit: Nope, its the real deal. Not a fake this time.

Agreed, font choice aside I don't see what the problem is with the system, surely it looks like the kind of thing we were expecting PS3 to look like - they've done grey, they've done black, it was either going to be iPod white (not likely) or silver. At least it doesn't have those horrible grills all over it like the last two did.

    That controller though... oh dear...

Sony are trying to make it into the integrated entertainment centre they said the PSX would be, so they put in two HDMI ports so that you can play games on one whilst someone watches a film on the other.

They don't say how you're supposed to get two discs in at once though :smt042

Also, big complaint about both Xbox and PS3 designs is that you can't stack them up.

I can also see batteries being a big problem in future, with all those wireless controllers, remotes and all. Hopefully they will be rechargable with a docking station, but no-one seems to be talking about that.:(

What are you on about? that was F*cking ugly too ! Looks like a load of lego painted black. The PS3 does look very bad though. So bland and very poor in design. And what's with the bloody wireless pads !! I hate all that crap. having to spend money on batteries just to play my games and in japan we have to PAID to throw away batteries as well !!! F*cking joke !

Nope, thats not the reason that it has both ports. Its because it's supposed to be able to use dual-monitors for games, with the ability to either span one image across both screens, or so when having more then 4 people playing split screen one handles four players and the other three.

IT LOOKS LIKE FUCKING GEORGE FOREMAN GRILL!

Jesus christ, get rid of that goddamn controller. To me the PSX/2 had the most intuitive controller i'd ever used. It felt RIGHT in my hands (except for in FPS games, xbox felt right at home with those). It melded with my fingers. Look at those fucking shoulder buttons. They defeat the purpose of being out on the SHOULDER. They seem to be in the middle of the controller. What's worse is that they aren't innovating it with anything other than shape, the xbox360 has a new button that serves an actual purpose, and the revolution is supposedly going to have this wacky new controller that will revolutionize the gaming industry, what made sony did was go bck 7 or 8 years and grab a controller that i vaguely remember plastered all over EGM that had teadrop buttons? WTF gives?
