No, the real reason is so that Sony can sell twice as many displays to help their ailing share of the flat panel screen market. ;-P (I missread the press report on it anyway, here's the actual quote from gamesindusty.biz) "All of that will enable the system to perform a wide range of multimedia functions, surpassing even the feature-set of the company's own PSX convergence device which was released in Japan around eighteen months ago. Among the previously undisclosed abilities of the PS3 will be internet browsing functions, video chat using an EyeToy style camera peripheral, photo archival and browsing, and of course, advanced video and audio playback functionality. Intriguingly, the two HDMI ports can drive two entirely independent HDTV displays - a feature which could allow users to, for example, play a game on one screen while video-chatting with all their fellow players on another."
HAHAHA Sony are fucking jokers.... Who the fuck do sony think we are.... Can i have a poll of how many of you have a SINGLE HDMI tv?
Probably all here anyway but here is the SCEE Press details with pics In my opinion :-( But then again it depends on what`s inside and how it`s used. http://www.scee.presscentre.com/Content/Detail.asp?ReleaseID=3842&NewsAreaID=2
I think the black version looks the best out of the three. It's still horrible though. And that controller... what were they thinking. I've seen bananas that would make better controllers than that. And, up to 7 wireless controllers? Where'd they pull that number from?
Yeah, it'll be perfect for lazy students! Back to real life - it's fugly! And seriously, no normal gamer's going to have two HDTVs in the same room. EVER. And why the hell 3 gigabit network ports? I can see the point in two maybe - one for your DSL modem and the other for a network (assuming it can do internet connection sharing, which it probably can't), but three!?
I think sony think we are fucking fools... They are just sitting there thinking yeah were sony we got the playstation brand no ones gonna jump ship now... we got tons of fan boys.... I cant wait to see what the fanboys say about the controlers... man i might sign up to the playstation newsgroups and see what they are saying about their loved controler... I cant wait for that PS3 fanboy who keeps posting on the xbox group to show up.
I won't tell you what I think the controller looks like. Edit: Okay, I will. It looks like an oddly shaped dildo.
I'm a big sucker for Sony design. I liked the PS1, PSOne, PS2, PSTwo, PSP, AND the PSX, and you know what? I like this thing too. It'd damn well better REALLY come in white at launch though.... 1080p support is hella cool. I will now wait to upgrade my TV until I can get 1080p support. I was looking for an excuse to do that anyway. 2x HDMI is awesome. Dual displays have been a long time coming in gaming. It'd be almost like having a DS, but sans touchscreen functionality (which I think is overrated anyway, DS is cool because of the two screens). Main game image on the big DLP screen and then a map screen or something else to a 2nd LCD. I hope something actually takes advantage of this. Where's the DAMNED SDDS SUPPORT?!? It's the world's BEST surround format, it's a Sony proprietary toy, so why the hell doesn't any of the materials mention SDDS? SDDS-encoded games would be COOOOOL. Oh well, ol' DD 5.1 it is, I suppose...could be worse. Ok, I hate the controller too. I don't think anyone's going to argue on that front. I hope they do a permanent redesign like Microsoft did going from the "duke" to the S. Hopefully it'll actually play Blu-ray movies too, assuming anyone actually makes them. All in all, it does a LOT of different things, and I think many of them are genuinely useful. I do like the design of the PS2 better, I think that the PSTwo/PSP was the best aesthetic period in Sony design, but I can live with this. Certainly looks better than the 360, aside from that gawdawful controller.
So to enjoy the best of the ps3 you will need to spend around $1/2k... How you can try and argue that is beyond my small little mind...
Guess what? Confirmed. I just saw pictures of the machine on CNN. Not a fake. They didn't show the controller, though. There's still some hope.
Try the official sony press release where they had the console pictures... they should have controler there too.
Is it just me or do all the next gen machines look like ass, well more of a media centra and less of a console? I'm tempted to buy 1 of each at launch provided there is no BS issues with backwards compatability, but my god I can't deal with cramming assloads of ugly ass shit under my TV with the worst controlllers ever conceived. Lets hope we can hack the wired controllers to work via USB -_-
