PS4 is just a shitty PC, why not join us, the PC gaming master race?

Which is why I prefer consoles, PC games always bothered me and many can be bitchy.

    PS4 GPU : 1.84 TFlops
    GTX 680 : 3.09 Tflops
    Radeon HD 7970M : 2.1 Tflops
    GTX Titan : ~4 Tflops

We have a massive evolution between current gen and next gen, it's great, but it still don't have enough power.
In 2-3 years, we will have a 4 Tflops GPU in mid range...

Ahh well, I didn't expect anything revolutionary - I mean most products are mainly evolutionary. :)
But yeah I don't care so much about PS4 as my retro machines are my preference get more time, my PS3, not so much!

And guys... a console has always been technically a fairly fixed platform computer, since forever.
Sure it isn't usually paired with a keyboard, mouse and monitor and mass storage (historically), but a computer it is.

More on topic; I do wonder when and if that Steambox comes out, to join in the fight for market shares.
    Could be interesting times ahead!

Console gaming having network connections and local storage is what did them in for me. While I love the gaming network experience, the ability to update the games post ship made devs sloppy and careless. Gone is the one major benefit I enjoyed over PC gaming. Pop it in and it just works perfectly. No driver issues. No serious bugs or hardware incompatibility. Everytime one of my console titles crashes I am pushed closer to my PC. At least on the PC I have a chance of getting it working.

The next gen being so PC like is going to allow the steam box to become a major player in the market. Unfortunately I fear cheap titles will undermine some of the triple A business share and we will lose out.

Not only that, but also just pull the plug if you are done playing, no regrets. No shutting down needed.
This is why the Dreamcast was the last "real console".

I'm in total agreement here. I watched that live cast last night and me and my brother were scratching our heads thinking the same thing "So they've built an old PC and will stuff it with DRM and social features then charge an extortionate price for it. Great..."

And for some reason every developer nowadays seems to think I have this 'look at what I'm doing everyone!' attitude towards gaming, wtf!? I do about 80% of my gaming offline except for games like Counter Strike. Yet developers think I have this need to incessantly tell everyone what I'm doing and where I'm up to.

On top of that Sony are constantly thinking up ways to tighten the thumb screws on me regarding anything I buy, I don't trust PSN or SEN or whatever they're calling it these days. *sigh*

Seriously thinking of sitting this gen out completely at the moment and sticking to the PC. The only think that piqued my interest was that Killzone demo and that probably won't look the same by the time it reaches my hands like what happened last gen (though they did do a good job on number 2, not so much 3). I'm certainly not buying an entire console just for that game.

Not to mention having to update the games every time I turn on because the developer forgot to finish the games properly, or released it knowingly.

That GPU won't have (proper) access to any more than 2GB - I won't be surprised if it's less, there's a reason they aren't telling us the share ratio. And since when was unified memory a good idea anyway?

This is the only thing that bugs me with consoles today, and for the next generation. Release dates don't really matter, since developers release broken games anyway. When I got DOA 5 it was unplayable (even though I finished it) with lag spots. 4 patches so far and that's just stupid.

Hard to knock the PS4 for being a shitty PC when every Xbox has been in the same boat but still did ok but yeah if you are going to use a shitty PC, why not just use a mid range gaming PC and console controller instead?

The lack of SSD sucks but given the price they would only be able to ship with a low capacity model which would get worn out quickly by frequent writes. I hope it at least has a SATA 3 controller and TRIM support to slot in an SSD of your own at a later date.

The PS Move DUalShock hybrid is kinda shitty looking too. It doesn't seem practical to use the front facing touch element either. If you have to move a cursor, why not just use the analog stick?

Perhaps the most laughable element of the whole affair though is using such a weak system to push 4K. It is going to be marketed asimilar to the current systems were1080p capable but end up doing 720p with most of the features crippled all over again.

We should start a pool on whether they leave the overheating problems in this gen as well, how much money do you reckon they both (MS and Sony) made off of dead consoles outside of warranty?

They're building a gaming PC and stuffing it into a console shell which has to fit under a TV after all. I haven't heard of a lead-less solder alternative that can take the kind of punishment a gaming console throws at it.

ALWAYS been a console person, less hassle about out of date drivers, compatibility issues, out of date specs....also i prefer the exclusives that consoles have. I only really like a few old school FPS's and Max Payne on PC

Gabe Newells beef with microsoft could kill pc gaming in general with his whole stance on supporting linux in general, and to be honest with windows new feature that doesn't easily allow dual booting to linux going to be a tough sell. Unless they support linux devices like ouya.

Ps4 conference was a huge yawn, even the games didn't really scream out to me this would be worth getting at all. The whole streaming feature while interesting doesn't really excite me much. Even the controller, it's like really how long are they going to just keep slightly adjusting the dual shock? It literally took them 4 consoles to finally fix that damn d-pad?!!! Also why not show the system feels weird and kinda kills early buzz they were hoping for.

Reality is that graphics just aren't everything anymore, now the games and actual design of how they play and look are crucial. I mean gears might have some of the prettiest graphics out there, but it's backed by great gameplay and good texture design choices. It's really now what does the console offer that makes it worth the money to put down. I mean 360 success was based partially on its media streaming capabilities and stuff you could do with xbox live, as for controlling with your phone or tablet microsoft has been already doing that with 360.

Plus these companies are going to have a harder time selling due to the way the economy is, it's just not that easy to splurge that kind of money for a console anymore. Sure people will put down good money for a collectors edition of Ni no Kuni, but at the same time it's to bring joy is their miserable life (not trying to be cynical just stating current state of society). I mean people will spend the money for an iphone or ipad, but it has a lot more usefull and practical uses.

As for microsoft, well we got wait till e3 for that one. It's too early to tell if it will be good or not considering no official info is out. I will say though that out of what is out now, 360 still has hands down the right balance of games and user interface. But I agree if the microsoft unveil feels the same might just stick with this current gen, who knows maybe wii u might actually get a boost from these blunders lol.

Well, the 360 is severely lacking in exclusives. Unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY like Halo and Gears of War. So yeah.

the time is ripe for a new console not made my Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo. But who makes it? An Upstart by gamers for Gamers? Valve? EA (OH GOD NO)

Who? Apple? Is the iGame in the future I dunno......

It's starting to look alot like 1983

How much would it cost to get a pc setup thats comparable to the ps4? The main reason i stick to consoles is the ease of use. Why haven't they came up with an OS thats completely dedicated to gaming..? that would make life alot easier for me.

The 360 has got shit loads of titles that aren't on the PS3. If you're only going to look at the crap the media focus on then of course you are going to think there's a lack of exclusives.
