I've heard some rumbles that ps4 might be a 3d system, goggles and all. Supposedly you can turn off the 3d and not use the goggles. Anyone else heard rumors?
Shit is awesome, don't hate on it until you've seen a proper modern 3D system. Avatar blew my fucking mind.
Well 3D gaming will be the next big thing, and a future update will make the Playstation 3 a proper 3D machine, so I don't think we will need to wait until the PS4... although a 3D TV like a DLP projection screen or a 120Hz shutter glasses screen are still fairly expensive and if you've already bought an HDMI tv the last thing you want to do is buy another one just to have it in 3D. The game Avatar does have a stereoscopic 3D mode in the game, if you have a compatable TV. 3D technology is being hyped again mainly as like a lot of technology it can now be done properly, shutter 3D glasses at a low refresh rate will give you a headache but now with devices that don't break the bank using high speed shutter 3D glasses and polarised light (with and without glasses) and engines that can do 3D justice it does look more amazing.
Gestural control is not the best for relaxing. I don't want to have to get up and wind an imaginary crank at 3am after some beers. Hitting X rapidly works just fine, thanks.
People are idiots that's why. Seems also that people are too lazy to implemnent true 3d there is such a thing as 3d that doesn't require goggles but Some old Japanese woman got sick when they were testing it. Look up super Hi Vision.
i wouldn't mind a 3d console at all if done properly! and i would certaily like it more than any futuristic wii.
My view: 3d won't work properly until we have holographic displays without set resolutions/boundaries. That and head-tracking.
I wish I would be able to see 3D content, but I don't have any stereoscopic vision due to my eyes being bad since birth...
Just get past it. We're in a tough spot. One of two things will happen: true 3D will phase out until the next trial, or it will evolve into a usable medium. I'm fine for now with my 2D-3D. And my SDTV. Is that silly?
Yes the 3D tech is useless for some people, try looking at the 3D version of avatar with one eye closed.... Barc0de, there are some headtracking stuff that work quite well, look at: http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/
The motion effect really does make some people very ill. By the time PS4 hits the shelves I am sure we'll have heard more than a few rumors and spent long hours discussing it. Good ol' Sony hype machine in action. The only person I know to have experienced 3D head gear on a "recent" piece of hardware (PS2) is Unclejun. I really would LOVE to try it out. However, I laughed at Kev's comment about hitting X repeatedly at 3am. That is where I am at, because a 3D console will need a completely clutter free room or a playpen for most of us. Can you imagine the accident reports? All the shit surrounding the number of people who have done themselves, pets and items injury using the Wii will seem minor compared to the damage you could do with a 3D head set on!
Don't talk to me about it, with the number of (somehow always too short) cables between the headset, PS2 (and TV if it's still connected), after a few minutes of turning around blindly to the outside of your game world you'll end up in a bondage situation...in the best case scenario... karsten, you're right, it's not a 3d headset, only "headtracking" (3 axes motion recognition in fact, nothing as capable as the TrackIR wich I posted the link earlier).
3D is just another venture to force everyone to buy new TV's. Look how bad HDTV is now, millions of people have them and the HD format TV service is diabolical and expensive. We have SkyHD and barely anything (worth watching) is in native HD, everything else is just upscaled and looks shit.
same. I had 6.50 on each eye until I got lasik surgery. Stereoscopic vision is very limited in my experience, hence why I'd need something much more immersive to be impressed. also, Avatar in 3D was like watching the movie in SD resolution. The sharpness fell significantly by the stereoscopic manipulation my eyes were trying to follow. All in all, I was trying hard to concentrate to watch the movie and "See it" properly in 3D but I would always end up distracted, or even used to it to the point that it didn't impress me, especially when nothing really made me feel close to the depth they allegedly presented.
