I think you missed my point. We are not getting anything new, all this stuff was available decades ago. In fact disneyland is re-releasing Captain EO. Thats how far 3D tech has come in over 20 years, essentially something from the 80's still looks good enough to be shown to 21st century audiences.
Sony uses the PS consoles to push their technology all the time. The PS2 for DVD, the PSP for UMD (EPIC FAIL!) and the PS3 for bluray (I'll rather use netflix). Actually considering 3D TVs are just around the corner while the PS3 may stay for 2 or 3 years from now, is weird Sony didn't announce this FOR the PS3, to help push some of these new TVs and googles. Me? I'll rather have real-eye tracking 3D that this polarised shit
It was sony and phillips the ones who changed the original super density disc concept from matsushita and toshiba by using the technology they created for the MMCD, turning it into what we know as the DVD. Besides sony is also a media company, so it was in their best interest to push a new media wave to help boost sales of content in what was basically their media format, unlike VHS were they only agreed to join after the utter defeat of the Betamax.
You seem to have missed that the PS3 has had 3d demos for the past year or so at trade shows, and people seem to point to this year as being the year the PS3 is compatible with 3d.
Well it makes much more sense then, considering that by the time the PS4 arrives 3DTVs will be almost commonplace. Nevertheless, I stick with eye-tracking.
The PS2 had 3D demos too. It's something they have been working on for a long time. The older stuff used the PS Eye though.
