I would love to see a real 3D console. When the PS4 launches i think that people will have enough of cheap casual games and change to high-end gaming again. So 3D gaming and video will be the thing of the future. At least 3D p0rn alone should make this technique successful.
Watched Avatar in a cinema with xpand glasses over my own glasses. Biggest pain in the ass ever! Dint get the 3D effect most of the time, had huge problems concentrating on the film and glasses were pretty heavy and hurt my nose after a while. All in all i wont be seeing any 3D films until i get a prescription for contacts or get some lasik. Plus im more interested in VR tech with Wii like controls that could make some games more interesting.
This is pretty much a certainty. The PS3 will get 3D compatibility in only a few months and they'd be crazy not to bring it to the PS4, especially since Blu-Ray is featuring it also.
Well, you do have a point there. Still, down here Blu-ray discs are almost 3 times more expensive than DVD's. Not to mention the cheapest Blu-ray player is around 700 Reais, while you can get a decent DVD player for 99 Reais. I won't even start on FULLHD TV's. And withouth it, spending money on a Blu-ray player is pointless. Never mind the shitty 3d shark! I want a flying DeLorean that runs on garbage!
One thing BTTF got right... Games where we don't use our hands..... But who the fuck wants to play Wild gunman? game aged like poop in the desert. Hogan's ally will still be fun in 5 years
Well first off, your wear eyeglasses. My grilfriend put her contacts in the day we saw Avatar with the Xpand glasses. Second I don't know what theatre you saw it at, but a bad projectionist can ruin any "in theatre experience". Light loss is huge with the Xpand LCD shutter glasses, so if you were not at a theatre that could boost screen brightness either with two projectors or a really bright single projector, than you got ripped off. The process is more work for the projectionist and a manager needs to asses the quality before letting patrons pay. You should have immediately gone to management and ask for an alternative or refund. In fact I would go so far as to write Xpand a letter regarding your poor experience as an eyeglass wearer. I don't doubt your claims, but it illustratres my point that 3D gaming designers should tread carefully. Also you need to do your research on which 3D system best supports people who wear eyeglasses. I don't wear them, so I can't speak for you, but like I said girlfriend wore her contacts and the 3D effect was both good and not nausea inducing. Maybe Dolby 3D or RealD will be a better 3D experience for you (BTW, I have been to many Xpand screenings at studios, so I have seen way more than one film in the format, the others simply can't compete for feature length films, balancing less nausea with less pop-out 3 D effects). I think 3D will be a sort of fleecing of movie theatre customers. I have a problem with some theatre chains charging more money for glasses that you cannot keep (I am not saying a customer should be able to keep the glasses, but rather that they should not be forced "rent" them). In comparison, in the past it did not cost more to see a 70mm film vs s 35mm film and the difference between the two when projected in a theater is astounding. Theatre chains are going to use 3D to secretly increase the cost to see a film. Cars and powerplants that run on trash already exist, it just that companies don't want people to stop buying gas. I have given up on the whole "2001 Space Oddessy" style future. We can build all this stuff today, but companies want us live in a perpetual 1980's, but with internet access, so we can buy stuff and work ourrselves to death indefinately.
We've gone a long way since the 1980s besides internet, there's improvements in medcine (even if health care itself is flawed) we ALMOST have sex robots (that THING at AVN doesn't count but it's close) Hover crafts exist. Ah fuck it here http://www.11points.com/Movies/11_Predictions_That_Back_to_the_Future_Part_II_Got_Right
What I hate are people who act like they're too good for 3D. I saw Avatar 5 times in a real IMAX 3D theatre. The future IS 3D unless you're some blind prick ! No offence ^_^
Kids, like myself, that had weak eyes since birth are not able to implement the stereoscopic ability in their mind. By the time I got eye surgery and stopped wearing lenses/glasses I had already become used to the trigonometric approach of judging distances (i.e relative points in a scenery). 3D to me is not really that 3D, only briefly for a moment and then it just feels flat again.
No, it is a gimmick. Unless you happen to be one of the lucky few who have the exact eye spacing to match the recording camera offsets used for filming, happen to be sitting in the one (yes ONE) perfect position in the theatre without moving your head or eyes and happen to have absolutely no level of color-blindness (for red-green stereoscopy) or refresh rate issues (for shutter based stereoscopy), then 3D won't work right for you.
Sure things have come a long way since the 1980's, but "we" (regular folks, not billionaires) will never get access to the stuff. Trust me, we will be living in a 1980's style environment for a long time, "eating Mcdonalds" and "commuting to work in a gasoline car for hours everyday", long before "ghost in the shell" or "back to the future" stuff is allowed to be consumed by the masses. And no, it is not a matter of price or mass production. All that singularity bull crap being touted by Kurzweil is never going to happen because it would topple capitalism and would put the current people who have power in jeopardy of losing thier power. A majority of people in the world are going to work for pennies and live in shacks, despite "Star Trek" technology being available. Just beacuse I can buy a 3D TV in the next few years doesn't mean such a thing couldn't have been developed and sold 25 years ago (because it could). You are not getting anything new, just stuff that companies could make decades ago, but decided to try and finally make a profit on it today through planned obsolescence. Remember those Captain EO glasses at disneyland? The technology in those glasses isn't any different from the Dolby 3D glasses or the RealD glasses used today. How about VOIP? I was using VOIP in the early 1990's and the only thing I was paying for was my ISP. Nothing is new or a giant leap foward, its all just something old that companies can sell us today that aren't the "real" upgrades that we were promised or are technically possible.
You're greatly exaggerating. Most people see 3D movies fine, anywhere in the cinema. There was not one person that walked out of the Beowulf 3D imax movie I went to that wasn't raving about it on their way out. That was using the polarized lenses.
No, I'm not exaggerating, but most people mentally adapt to the visual irregularities after a period of time (usually short). The problem is, those visual irregularities WILL eventually catch up with you in the form of eye strain and headaches.
I am more attuned to the issue (VR was my backup dissertation topic), but there is a lot of research into the subject of eye strain and fatigue caused by various visualization systems.
In my opinion, it will always be a gimmick. I guess for the cinema, it's an extra experience. But for home use, it's not something i would want to pay for... Let's not forget that High Definition content still hasn't picked up. This also is true for Blu-ray. In fact, if it wasn't for gamers with 360 or/and PS3, the whole HDTV market would be desperate for sales. Most people i know call Blu-ray the "new DVD", and watch DVD's through composite cables. Or even DivX on their computers. And are totally happy with that.
