http://ajw.asahi.com/article/economy/business/AJ201302070067 it's waaaaaaayyyyy earlier than i expected.... How will it sell in such economics? I know not even one of my friends (gamers) that have bought a wiiu, and i presume the PS4 will be way costier...
Not surprised in the least to be honest since it's supposed to be announced this month with the next Xbox soon after at E3, i'd expect both to be going on sale at the end of the year.
I think it's a bad move for Sony. The PS3 still has tons of stuff to be launched this year and they better make as much money as they can with it, after losing so much in the first 2, 3 years of the console. And they better expect the same thing for the next console. The rumours about no used games on both PS4 and new Xbox won't help it either. Plus i don't understand why people are so desperate for a next gen console. I don't see the difference will be that much, mostly 1080p resolution, AA and some fancy effects. If companies can make games like Halo 4 and Uncharted 3 exclusive to consoles on the current gen, there's still no need for a new gen IMO. If you want to run multiplatform games at the max, just upgrade the home PC.
I've got a $50 bet running that it's gonna be called the Orbis. Also- they've called for a press conference on Feb 20th. Not much right? Well maybe not. They want the media and investors to be there.
Orbis is the codename of Playstation 4. They will announce PS4 during this conference. The price will be set around 40k yens and the release by the end of this year in US and japan. That's what japan press said.
For my understanding... Sony may not called PS4 and the number 4 is an unlucky number in several Asian cultures including Chinese, Korean, & Japanese. Phones and electronics in these countries have skipped using the number 4 before. Another reason why Samsung Galaxy S4 my not use as 4. You won't find 4 in hotel room, hospital or Terminal airport in Japan. 4 means Death or to die. The word called Orbis is just a temporarily/codename for Sony next gen prototype project. However I believe it the good time to release the Sony new console as because PC gaming spec is far ahead and it will piss off many silly PC fanboys due to PS3 and XBOX360 is holding up everything. PC gamers raging about GTA 5 delayed. Neverless PS3 will still be supporting for another five years life circle like what Sony has done to support PS2. That is all matters to PS3 owners. I can feel that Sony new console will show better, even more dominated/quicker and put more pressure on Microsoft this time. Sony have learnt so much from last seven years.
Despite whether it's a lucky number or not, I can't see it being called PS4- it's much too old, over used by now. Plus, it's called the Vita, not the PSP2. Orbis Vitae- circle of life
This is a good move from Sony in reality - Microsoft were destined to do some kind of pre-E3/GDC console announcement regardless and Sony could not afford a repeat situation of the 360 launch where they gifted the opposition a 12 month launch window. It looks like they've made the correct decision to ditch the costly Cell processor of the PS3 to utilise a chipset and architecture much more in line with that of modern PC's, between that and the market saturation of blu-ray drives these days the PS4 would not be hard pressed to turn a profit from launch ... we certainly won't have a repeat of $599 anyways! Just like you won't find Biohazard 4, Street Fighter 4, Gran Turismo 4 or Metal Gear Solid 4 I presume? ... providing they don't go with the unlikey 'Orbis' codename this is going to be a complete non-issue.
The 360 is now almost 8 years old. The PS3 is ~7 years. How long do you expect it to go on? A decade? Apple releases a new iPhone every year. How can consoles compete with other devices when they're using 8 year old technology? Just for some perspective: the Famicom was released in Japan in 1983. The Mega Drive was released 5 years later in 1988. The Saturn and PlayStation were released 6 years later, in 1994. Dreamcast in 1999. Noticing a pattern? A new generation every 5 or 6 years. Our current situation is unprecedented. With the rapid advancement of technology, those times should be getting shorter, not longer. Okay, that's my rant.
Actually it really depends on how you say "4". Shi is the word used to signify death while Yon is used to signify the number 4. Also they could make the name Engrish, Puresuteshon Foa. Saying Puresuteshon Yon sounds off.
Yeah, Sony and M$ want 10 year cycles, including the Vita. My ass. That'll never fly, especially with the Vita. I see about the same time the PSP had on it, judging by how it's already out of date, compared to the Tegra 4.
If they go with restricted content or DL only (unlikely) then screw'em. I will spend my money on all the old games I missed until their systems get cracked. Then I am going full Pirate and I don't think I'll be the only one with this plan.
While I agreed with you. I done abit more research on 4 The superstition comes from the sound for the number "four" being a homophone to the word for "death" in many Asian languages, which trace their origins to Chinese. In Japanese, the verb "to die" is "shinu" (死ぬ) with the Chinese kanji character in the word (死) spoken as "shi" and meaning "death." The word for four is also pronounced as "shi." As someone who is Asian, I feel it is a big enough superstition for Sony to avoid the PlayStation 4 name. They don't want the PlayStation to die! However I think it sound cool If Sony does use 4 on their Sony brand next gen console. That would be sounds beast.
I don't know any one with a Vita either. I'm guessing the next generation may or will crash. Honestly I doubt the hardware will really be pushed more to make our games looking pretty, even though some games only run at 720p I wouldn't pay another $500 for a new system that can run at 1080p just for that resolution. Remember the Playstation 3 being released at $1,000 here in Australia? Yet people still bought it, sometimes price doesn't matter. We'll see.
It'll be pricey, and not worth the money until well into it's launch. I took a big enough chance to get a Vita on early launch. Well, I did win it, but that's beside the point. I was planning on buying an "early adopters kit" or whatever it was called.
and what if in a scary twist they'll make it cheap? the components should be easy to consolidate and should be getting cheeper and cheeper in time, would sony risk a super aggressive marketing to plan a early user base and bring them to a new generation console early? Might be a winning move. what is microsoft doing btw? is there any actually real info on the x720?
