I don't own it myslef, but I've been spending days on end at a friends house, with FC3 on PS3 AND on PC, with identical screen directly beside each other. We were comparing the Wii U's Wii upscaling VS Dolphin's upscaling, so I took the opportunity to compare them for myself. To be fair, cut scenes are laggy for no reason, even on my PC. They lag, but as soon as it jumps to gameplay it's back to 80. I've always shot for 60FPS (had a 7800GX2, 7800GX2 SLI, 9800GTX, GTX 295, GTX 580, GTX 580 SLI, GTX 680) so when something runs at 30 I can tell. It's very slight though.

i just gave out a feeling, no source at all... althought it seems IGN had the same feeling who would buy more than 200$ over a ps3 for a ps4 that will force you to not have BW compatibility?
PS3 is still a solid console but it has been around for a long time now, it's about time for a new generation and I will probably get a PS4 on release day
Hopefully it will drive down the price of a ps3, i've always wanted to enjoy uncharted, never played it heard it was great though! Never had a ps3 really now that i think about it.
No matter what they release it will still be YEARS behind what we have in PC hardware, and thus I have no interest at all.
@DefectX11 I wasn't aware of that Cutscene lag on PC, even though I haven't played FC3 on PC since early December so I can't remember. Thanks for your honestly though. @ Assembler Well... No shit Sherlock, Of course PC gaming are slightly ahead, It a upgradeable machine. I wouldn't say years behind. Sound like you comparing between PS1 to latest PC spec. End of day Console still does entertain gamers and that all matters .
Not really. The Xbox used modified PC hardware, and it was on the cutting edge of technology at the time. Of course, Microsoft didn't see much profit from it initially, but that's beside the point. Someone pointed out in one of the Durango threads that console manufacturers (historically) can afford to put expensive hardware in their systems because they produce them in bulk, and because they know a lot of people will buy them. There is, of course, a risk associated with that kind of practice, and it's reasonable to suggest that this might be less likely in the current economic climate. I dunno, just thinking out loud.
Another interesting fact on next gen: Since it's unlikely they will be backward compatible with the current gen games, i wonder how happy people will be when they figure out that their tons of digital content cannot be used. Specially when they paid full price for a digital file instead of a physical product. Sure, they can sell the console with their accounts, but i don't see people paying more for extra digital content on used products.
No. Psone was a million miles beyond pc in 1995. It's only now that we have abandoned the 4 year cycle for 10 year that it's a joke.
PS1 wasn't "a million miles" ahead of PC. PCs had the advantage of much faster processors, and when 3D accelerators came out about a year after the PS1's release, even lower end PCs crushed the PS1 in terms of graphics.
this is one of the reasons i expect the new consoles to be way cheaper than they used to be... no BW compatibility, no way to keep your online content... that means new console with zero games... and all games at 70$... i can't see them charging a high price for the consoles in such economics.
I agree, but there were no API standards. Rendition and lots of other 3d videocards had their own, 3dfx Voodoo's had Glide, then came OpenGL, DirectX,... Some games were only supported on a particular API / Videocard. It was a mess, specially with drivers. It wasn't until late 99's that things started to be a bit more organized. I remember playing Half Life for the first time on a ATI Rage 128.While it looked better than software mode, it had tons of issues.
I think the first Voodoo card came out in 1996, and that was the first 3D accelerator worth buying. I also don't recall the different cards being much of a problem, at least if you were smart and got a 3DFX one instead of some Matrox crap. (Indycar Racing 2's Rendition version though...fuck :moody Oh, but I didn't. Higher end PCs were more than capable of PS1-quality graphics at the time of its release, but when 3D accelerators came out, even more affordable PCs were able to beat the PS1...not to mention how much better the high end PCs could do.
After seeing that video I can see why PC gaming is becoming a lot more popular again this is light years ahead of what consoles can do at the moment and suspect like others have pointed out that even with the PS4 and Next Xbox it wont be as close. What was interesting was back when the PS2 came out it was sort of on par with PC gaming and with each gen release the bridge between each other is just getting longer.
Exactly. I just upgrade my PC when I want the latest. The consoles don't necessarily have the latest, and you certainly can't upgrade them. As per what was said before: if the 4 year cycle still was the norm I'd probably be more interested in consoles. BUT...
