Buzzwords galore, three things really bother me: 1 They focus on downloads, and state things like, you can play the games instantly before its fully downloaded, all fair but it would seem like they dont care for the current distribution at retail stores, as its not even mentioned 2 Full integration with Facebook, like using real names and "keeping your friends updated" it really sounds like spam that you expect to see with things like social games found on facebook. 3 Predictive downloads based on what you play :/ 2,3 just sets off alarm bells in my head relating to privacy. @Square Enix FFFFFFUUUUUU!!!!!!!
It's AMD most likely. 8 cores, and meant to be cheap? APU chip? It screams AMD. But not showing hardware? Come on Sony, that's all I was there for!
Yeah. What a tease, Sony is. I was hoping to see what household appliance they modeled this one after.
^^ They didnt show a lot of things, also didnt give a release date Most likely AMD, but interesting that the refer to it as x86 not x64, as far as I know just a about every pc cpu currently sold is x64 (or faux x64) Funny thing is my pc currently outperforms the Ps4 specs by a huge margin, atleast this will lead to better PC ports.
It's way to early, but i didn't liked the Killzone demo. They transformed it into a Michael Bay wannabe COD FPS. It's saddening. Killzone Mercenary for the VITA looks way more interesting IMO. I wonder what will be the retail price of the thing. Powerful CPU with 8 Cores + Powerful GPU + 8GB DDR5 + Custom Network Chip + HDD (500GB at least) + Fast Blu-Ray Drive. Also don't forget the cooling system for all that. I don't see how this could be less than 500 dollars (and still losing money). PS: Was i the only one who laughed when Randy Pitchford appeared on a video talking about simple and elegant games ?! LOL. Anyway, i'm not amazed. DriveClub looks like a modern PGR. Watch Dogs looks great, but is something we were already expecting (EDITED this last phrase as i saw the video on youtube). Just like Destiny, that we already knew. Same as Square Enix Luminous Engine. Infamous Second Son was ok, just like Deep Down. I was honestly expecting something like Crash Bandicoot reboot, plus something from Naughty Dog, Polyphony, Rockstar, Konami... I feel sorry for all the people who got hyped for this event. The whole Gaikai looks promising, but i can't hope much from a 5GB connection. Social integration is a trend, sadly. It's like the whole world is turning into a narcissism society.
Holiday 2013=Christmas. I will buy one on the spot if they demo the system in full with George Foreman. I will also cry. I can see that not costing them too much. Look at the consumer prices for an AMD 8 core chip. Ask AMD to do a custom 8 core APU, with a 7000 series (inexpensive) GPU inside and it should end up being too much, especially given it'll be in bulk. 8GB GDDR5 is pricey, but maybe because of how common it is it won't be. Blu-Ray drive? No problem, it's old technology and Sony owns Blu-Ray. Network chip- no comment HDD- laptop HDDs at 500GB are cheap. Cooling system- well there really isn't a way to cut corners on it inconspicuously, so assume it to be similar to the later revisions of PS3.
But x86 is the actual architecture, x64 is just a nickname for the 64-bit implementation of x86. And yeah of course your PC has better specs, but your PC has to run an operating system, background applications and optimizations though drivers rather than for the specific hardware. Put it this way the Xbox 360 has 512mb of RAM and doesn't do too badly compared to PCs with stuff like Halo 4, so 8GB in a console is just insane amounts of memory!
Loads of massive hype tonight regarding the unveiling. I wonder if they will be heralding in digital only games. Also, the potentially intrusive "social" dynamics. It seems as if the solo experience is under threat.
Expecting that half of those 8GB DDR5 will be reserved exclusively for the OS, video recording stuff, social features etc.
Maybe they'll release two console versions - one with an optical drive (or, heck, they could even do flash memory if they wanted?) and one without. That way, we can all ignore the latter like we did the 20GB PS3.
Regardless, I'm currently on side with buying a launch system. I did so with the Vita, and I have to say I'm not disappointing, even if I only play it every-now-and-again. Assuming they don't mess something up seriously with how the system functions or how games work on it, that is.
EXCELLENT point. Wii U has two gigs of RAM, and half of that is dedicated to the OS. PS4 will need quite a bit (hopefully less than half) to do all that background crap.
Okay assuming at the most 1GB is kept for background tasks that's still 7GBs of RAM. Why does everyone have to act this way at the launch of anything? We don't even have the next Xbox to compare the PS4 too, so why are we already bashing the PS4?
Square Enix part must win the WTF?! moment of the whole thing. They showed the same demo from last year's E3 and then the guy gets on the stage to say that a new Final Fantasy is coming for the PS4. Oh Really!?!? And then leaves, saying we must wait for E3! So, an announcement for the announcement. WTF just happened?! LOL We are just discussing a presentation event. Chill out.
How should we act? OMG This is the best thing ever XOMG? Sorry but its far more fun to compare and try and estimate what the console is capable of and will be like when it comes out Agreed, and isnt it customary that the tech demo is based on a old gens FF game, like the FF VII demo and the FFVIII demos, maybe there just so tired of controversy surrounding it then afterwards...
With Drive Club and Watch dogs there was some visible LOD changes(One thing I hoped we wouldn't see this new generation), and the same specular aliasing and shimmering that were in the PC luminous Engine demo was there in the PS4 demo. To the same amounts it seemed too. So that's somewhat promising. Who knows what actual framerates they can get with that though. On PC with a GTX 680 the demo ran with 8xMSAA+FXAA for hair and other objects at 60FPS. Hopefully they can achieve near the same. Capcom's engine demo looked amazing. But the quality of the feed was very terrible so it's hard to judge completely how good things will end up looking. And no mention of used games or backwards compatibility beyond streaming? Don't know what to think about that. Ultimately, as long as we get stable framerates, no blocked used sales, toggleable social features, toggable background downloading of games/content without my permission, toggleable game streaming and decent anti-aliasing. I will be happy. I only get 100GB per month up/down combined bandwidth. I dont' want to waste it. Also they seem like they are iterating on Nintendo's iterations of social features and portable way of playing your games on the Wii U. Except you have to own a Vita or a phone/tablet(+Plan) to do it.
Looks ok. Will probably get one but it'll be totally fucking useless until BT realise that people outside of London need Internet connections faster than 2mbps.
No but we shouldn't just be like "this sucks, it's terrible, oh god Sony what are you doing?" for no real reason, at the very least the Tech Demos show there is a noticeable amount of progression and the system specs sound very respectable, but now people are using their own unproven speculations against it. We don't even need to estimate what the PS4 is capable of they just told us, people aren't even using any kind of logic to their arguments against a new console, just random statements... I'm not even a Sony fan boy I much prefer the 360 over the PS3 but it just annoys me when people put new technology down for no reason, even if they give a reason It usually makes little sense.
