wow, if this really is legit (and i hope it is, remembering all those discussions), i guess ill either need an old PSX or find a way to mod a parallel port on a 9xxx one

Don't get me wrong, I want to see this come to fruition with extremely high compatibility with features making the PS1 superior to what it already is. There is no "fued" going on with Haunted just animosity due to his behavior that never dissipated due to his complete absence in the last year. If this thing turns out to be as good as I'd like it to be I'll likely be buying at least one.

The only reason to have a newer PS1 is for the higher quality laser. Given this replaces the need for one I wouldn't bother caring much about the 900x or 10x models. There was a kit to install a parallel port but good lucking finding them these days let alone for a reasonable price.

That's impressive but it doesn't look like it has anywhere near the bandwidth needed to stream the game and CD audio through that port for a decent experience.

    Impressive none the less.

They said on the dev log that the slow speed an no cd audio is due to the code being in rough prototype stage, with several planned optimizations not implemented yet.
So according to this, this is not a limitation of the hardware bandwidth but a limitation of the programming that runs it.

In any case ill stay tuned, if they can make it at least as fast as the fastest brand new playstation reading a mint disc, it will definitely be worth buying.

We can talk about this now? Just can't mention PSIOS right?

When the first PSX emulators came out, CD reading was a major issue until better plugins were designed. From what I've read the Parallel I/O port should be sufficient to "stream" FMV/CDA into the console. Developers could use a device called PsyQ I believe that plugged into that port and loaded games from.

Ah, ok interesting, so then this could be the savior of all those PSXs with dieing or dead lasers then. I definitely wouldn't mind accessing my games through this thing if it's going to be fast enough.

I have the SCPH-5502 myself so it's encouraging, though as with all projects like this I'll keep an ear to the ground, but only believe it when I have one in my hand. Looks like that's quite a way off yet.

I supported them during the "fiasco" and threw some finances their way when they first started. I cannot say I regret it.

I am liking the project and I will probably buy one of these PSIO's when they're good to go, but still I can't stand haunted's branding everything that cybdyn has done as team effort. As in "We will include" "we will raise the compatibility" or "we made it to engadget"

Well, will be interesting to see how good, quick and compatible the finished product is, and how much it will cost. Until that stage it is just a work in progress.

Heh, that's looking great. Seems to have enough speed to stream textures and xa audio no problem. Looks like a CD audio solution needs to be worked out and FMVs could do with speeding up but other than that, looks a lot better than in the original video. Amazing work, truely.

So if we don't count the 3D0 drive emulator that not many people had and it's existence is questionable this may be the first console optical drive emulator for retro consoles. I'm also not considering the WODE for the WII because it's current gen, not retro.

    Great work! :)

Amazing progress, looking forward to seeing what comes next. I guess the USB cable to the PSIO board is being used to select the game on the SD card?

The CRT high pitched sound ruins the video honestly does. Had to mute it :/ Although great progress by the team, it's pretty close now :)

Not to ruin anyone's dreams, but nothing has changed!

In every video you will see a lot of inconsistency... I could write a lot, but the real secret is that the games are being run by using an emulator.

To simulate loading, the game is paused for a period of time, and then to simulate end of loading it is unpaused.
Anyone can notice the obvious bilinear filtering used in the textures in the games; and the LED lights on the device?

The LED starts blinking before the PlayStation even starts... if you know how a PlayStation power supply is made you will notice the weirdness of that, because when the PlayStation isn't turned on, the PSU won't emit any voltage and nothing will go on the main board... this means the device gets the power for this fakery from the USB connector. Pretty strange.. the PSU is more than strong enough to supply a device like the PSIO adequately..

If this project were real, you think they'd not steal other people's source code, passing it as their own... right?

    Go check http://tsumi.wordpress.com

    Amusing.

People on the internet have the bad habit of not checking what they talk about before posting. How annoying.
