    Hmm, In Aus the use of a chip has been rolled out in the past year. As for cheque, no not many people use them... except my father who only gets paid by cheque or cash :p

    As for cash back, I've never been asked to sign for it. That said, I've never asked for more than a hundred out at a shop.

    I didn't know about the LastPass attack. But I do believe using a master password to store your other passwords is silly. Those websites reduce your password security because all they have to do is crack one users master pass and they'll get the rest of theirs.

    I had an idea for storing my passes. I won't go into detail(obviously) but it's along the lines of embedding into a file what looks to be as a recipe for pumpkin soup(just an example). I guess it depends how keen you are :)

    It happens to businesses who don't place proper security measures in place. This ridiculous apologist behaviour that I see around the web, "oh it's not their fault, it's not like they allowed it, it just happened", I'm absolutely amazed that people can say such things. Absolute crap.

    Well pardon me for expecting my fucking financial details to be stored safely! How dare I have the audacity to expect Sony to do their job competently?

    With the exception of Apple all of those are the result of user error. Even if they weren't, bringing other companies into this debate only serves to highlight the fundamental fact that it was Sony who got hacked. Microsoft's servers did not leak 100 million user account details including credit card info (MD5 hashed or otherwise). Nintendo have not had to send out an email to their customers advising them that they're at risk of credit card fraud and should consult some kind of fraud prevention service. That's the difference between these companies as it stands today, and if that changes tomorrow you can bet I'll be just as angry at them.

    It's not you in particular I'm hating on, just this mindless acceptance and even defence from the Sony faithful. We all just got fucked. At least have the common sense to register that fact.

    personally the card I used on PSN was already skimmed and used somewhere before the PSN debacle, so the card I had on file with PSN is cancelled and gone thankfully

    My sarcasm began and ended with this sentence:

    "Changing your identity sounds like the reasonable thing to do when people are charging up credit in your name "

    So you're referring to the people that got fired so the rich could get richer? or to those doing the firing? Or everyone else at sony who is unaffected? CEO? shareholders? Which part of this international multi-billion dollar corporation do you exactly feel sorry for?

    Me?, well I'll stick to feeling sorry for the real people that have had their personal details stolen due to a corporations negligence, which who knows it might just have been avoidable if they weren't laying off their online department while known public exploits remain unpatched but why would "sony" care as the sites work,... let's update the content not the back end. I'm sure "management" just ignores windows update every Wednesday as well.

    Yea I'm sure 0 people will be moving their home and changing their name over this. The fact that you suggested these expedient (ha more sarcasm) solutions for such a time sensitive situation as identity theft boggles my mind. Who the fuck would move or change their name because someone tried to rack up some fraudulent charges in your name? Seriously who?

    WTF??? Just so happens we collect guns, and carry concealed, getting "smashed" would be the least of someones concerns if a sexual deviant/pervert/pedo does so much as takes a racy picture of my children. More likely we'd open up "guantanamo basement" for them,.. where of course our torture goes on unregulated and indefinitely :D

    Yea, anyone finding it valid please chime in. To me your opinion/illustration makes 0 sense, I also find it a bit upsetting/disturbing.

    I'm not sure if it's a simple lack of technical knowledge on your part, but please try to understand that this is not simply something that "happens". The entire situation is an exemplary case of corporate negligence in the highest degree.

    It appears that Sony is currently fighting two known class action lawsuits regarding the matter, hopefully more will follow..

    I guess when all banks start doing this, things will be more safe.

    As is now, for me anyway, I can use my debit cart as a credit cart in any shop. The card does not have a chip, no pin is required, it's never checked against receipt or ID, and I don't even have to sign for anything that's under $50.

    Only when I make large purchases, like $200 or more, they check my ID just to make sure the name matches.

    Fact is, it's fact. Even people have even been trying to get into a local Real Estate here. I only know this because I worked with the guy who managed their network. It's only the bigger businesses that are getting hacked that go public.

    You can expect that if you want. I'm just saying it's not going to happen. I wouldn't even expect my bank to do that.

    I did, and I wasn't happy for about an hour that my CC # could have been stolen. Then I got over it. Should they pick out me in the millions of users to charge, I just contact my bank... get my money back and cancel my card. It would only take 30mins of my time.

    thelastuser, I'm not going to bother replying. If I do, it's just going to make you more peeved.

    If my standards were as low as yours I can't imagine why I'd give my money to a bank in the first place.

    Eidos hacked. Supposedly resumes and some source code (to what, we don't know) where taken, along with taking down a few deus ex sites.

    http://krebsonsecurity.com/2011/05/anonymous-splinter-group-implicated-in-game-company-hack/

    For several hours early Thursday morning, the Deus Ex Web site, user forum, and Eidos.com were unreachable. For a brief period late Wednesday evening, the sites displayed a defacement banner that read “Owned by Chippy1337″ (click screen shot at right for a larger version), along with several names and hacker handles of those supposedly responsible for the break-in.

    KrebsOnSecurity.com obtained an archived copy of the attackers’ online chatter as they were covering their tracks from compromising the sites. A hacker using the alias “ev0″ discusses having defaced the sites and downloading some 9,000 resumes from Eidos. ev0 and other hackers discuss leaking “src,” which may refer to source code for Deus Ex or other Eidos games. In a separate conversation, the hackers also say they have stolen information on at least 80,000 Deus Ex users and that they plan to release the data on file-sharing networks.

    Neither Eidos nor its parent company Square Enix Co. could be immediately reached for comment. (This may not be the first time Eidos was breached: In a story I wrote earlier this year, I detailed how hackers on an underground criminal forum claimed to be selling access to Eidos’ customer database).

    There is already a torrent on PirateBay... no seeders however.

    Being that they put their names out and asked people to join them on IRC makes them look like attention whores. I hope they do get the attention they want and deserve... teh fuzz.

    Any why did they attack them anyway? I was looking forward to the new Deus.

    I hope this is true:lol:

    EDIT: PSN is slowing coming back online Sunday.

    Square-Enix owns Eidos. It happen a year or so back.

    So that article is most likely reporting the Eidos hack but is labeling it with the parent company.

    Welcome Back program for SCEE Users (credit to neogaf, where I got it from)
    http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/05/16/details-of-the-welcome-back-programme-for-scee-users-2/

    Now that certain PSN services have been restored and you’re once again enjoying online gaming, it seems a good time to confirm what is being offered as part of the Welcome Back programme.

    Once we restore PlayStation Store, which will be just a little while longer, you will have the opportunity to claim your Welcome Back gifts. Please note that the Welcome Back programme is only available for those countries with access to PlayStation Store*.

    All existing PlayStation Network members will be able to access the following from PlayStation Store*:

    Two PS3 games from the following list:

    * LittleBigPlanet
    * Infamous*
    * Wipeout HD/Fury
    * Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
    * Dead Nation*

    For those with PSP accounts, you will also be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list:

    * LittleBigPlanet PSP
    * ModNation PSP
    * Pursuit Force
    * Killzone Liberation*

    - 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*

    - Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.

    - For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.

    - We are working on a Welcome Back offer in PlayStation Home and will share that when it is confirmed.

    I would like to thank all of the developers and publishers involved in this programme for their support in making this happen. We certainly couldn’t have done it without you.

    You will be able to access this content once PlayStation Store comes back online and we are doing everything we can to make that happen as soon as possible.

    Thank you for your support and keep checking back on the blog for more information.

    1. For eligibility for the welcome back programme consumers must be an account holder on 20 April 2011. Specific details about these offers and eligibility requirements will be posted as the services go live. All existing PSN registrants have 30 days from when the welcome back programme goes live to redeem their content.

    2. For the German market, InFamous and Dead Nation will be replace with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings in the selection of PS3 games.

    3. For the German market, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation will be replaced with Everybody’s Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party in the selection of PSP games. Killzone Liberation will not offer online gameplay functionality.

    4. Access to the 30 days free PS Plus subscription is only available for those countries where PS Plus is offered. You will have access to the PS Plus content planned for May for 30 days. Access to the free games and exclusive features finishes at the end of the 30-day subscription period. Anything you buy with exclusive discounts, dynamic themes and premium avatars are yours to keep forever.

    That page has now been removed, which is a bit odd. I thought it was just me for a moment, but it's also been posted about on the official PS forum too.

    The selection of games is a bit shit (and very much in Sony's favour financially), but I'm not going to complain about getting Ratchet & Clank for free.

    There really is no excuse for not owning Wipeout HD Fury now though. :dance: I'm alway up for some online racing.

    What a sack(boy) of shit. This is the best lineup they can offer? I know it's free but c'mon, 3 year old games that you've either got, completed and sold/traded or passed on way back when? They're really pushing the boat out, aint they?

    "Welcome Program" on the USA store is a bit different for PS3. Instead of Ratchet & Clank Quest for Booty, it's Super Stardust HD.

    Since i own that Ratchet & Clank, plus InFamous and Wipeout HD Fury on blu-ray, i really have a 2 of 3 selection.

    I was planning to get Dead Nation, but i was waiting a price drop. So what about the others? LBP or Super Stardust HD?

    PS: digital version of LBP is a regular version or includes all extra content from game of the year edition?
