and did an rm rf on the servers, bye bye psn.

Expect a roll back for all trophies and such for a good period of time.

Anyone capable of doing this (assuming it's true) should also be more than capable of operating a proxy/using TOR/whatever.

I feel bad for the employees. They must be working 24/7 over Easter weekend. Hopefully they'll get some extra time after it is fixed (though I'd imagine it will be constant meetings about 'how could it have happened', etc.)

Can't seem to confirm/deny this tidbit of news. But it sure as hell seems plausible at this point in time given how long PSN has been down and no official word on when it is to come back up or even what has happened.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame Anonymous though, the whole suing of George Hotz pissed off a lot of people for a lot of different reasons. Most of them far more technically capable of a bunch of kiddos running LOIC. Though Anonymous is the PERFECT boogeyman for Sony to use for this.

Its bad. Anonymous are quickly becoming as oveblown as Manson post 4/20 and Muslims and anthrax post 9/11. The fox news report a few years ago was a total joke.

As I mentioned previously, Anonymous as an entity would not have pulled a stunt like this. However, it could well be a rogue within Anonymous which is why they've attempted to backpedal the hell away from there.

As long as they don't lose my PSN purchases / downloads, i'm fine.

But i can already imagine some people getting really angry because of lost trophies.

im actually quite glad psn has been down people now a days focus to much on being able to go online and MMO shooters with games

and why there should be a LAN option in games rather then just an online option

or hell just a way to create a private network with your pals would be nice

this central server shit is full of holes let alone when the servers for games are taken off line the games would then be coasters

Trophies are gay, and this will hopefully open everyone's eyes to that.

    Yeah right.

Aren't trophies stored locally on the PS3 anyway? So by doing a trophy sync you'd re-upload the trophy data to their servers...

EDIT: I don't believe your post, they obviously have trophy data or this wouldn't work

I'm with APE on this. Far as I've read online, Sony is the one who scrubbed the servers to rebuild them to fix vulnerabilities in the security.

There is rumors that the service will be back up Monday (japan) / Tuesday (US/Europe).

Your purchases are stored on your PS3, so I think they should be fine. The only reason they wouldn't be fine is if you deleted them from your hard drive.

This really doesn't bother me at all. I hardly ever use PSN for anything. The only thing I'm mildly worried about is if it affects Netflix - I haven't tried yet, but I'm guessing it doesn't, because for a long time my PS3 kept failing to log in to PSN (I needed to agree to some contract or something) and yet Netflix still worked. So... take away my Netflix, and I will start to get pissed off. Other than that, I really don't give 2 shits.

Yeah, I tend to get into situations where I need to re-d/l my purchases.... not even sure I really have EVERYTHING on my HDD right now....

Interesting too, but you can pirate live content and it's still online.

Probably a combo of multiple things involving psn

I can't wait to get the actual story of this , so far it's been what people
have heard around the water cooler.
