Balls to that. In europe Sony had an offer where if you activted an unregistered PSPgo through a certain perioid last year they would giv you 10 free games. I had not one but two PSPgo, activated them and after 28 days how many free games did I get? Zero!

Why the hell did they not encrypt the passwords? That should be the first thing you think of when setting up something on the Internet that requires passwords.

Or at least hash them so they aren't plain text. IT always gets the short end of the stick, even if you're a technology company. I'll bet some IT admin out there is being shitted on for having these decisions forced upon him from marketing or HR.

The passwords WERE hashed. It'll take weeks, even months to crack them. Everyone should have changed their passwords by then.

Is this comment true? It's one comment in this Joystiq's post about the situation:

    http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/01/some-psn-services-to-return-this-week-full-services-within-thi/

"They're giving away over 100 dollars of PlayStation content for free, going to pay for new credit cards if needed, paying for you to be in a free identity theft program that costs tons of money AND they are rebuilding the servers and enhancing everything yet everyone is still saying its not enough.

Microsoft gave away Undertow for free when XBL was hacked...a crappy 10 dollar game. So i feel very, very happy with what Sony is doing "

I actually think the whole PlayStation Plus 30 days free trial is more a smart move then a compensation. But if they realy do what this guy wrote, kudos to them. But it's not like we forgive them for the whole stupidity of not encripting data.

Sounds like some rabid fanboy making shit up to try to make the best of a bad situation, IMO. When XBL went down a few years back Microsoft didn't get hacked, didn't lose people's personal/financial data. If they did, you can be damn sure they'd have given away more than Undertow.

This isn't a comparison of the ethical standards of either company, just pointing out that it's not meaningful to compare the two incidents.

What they did was not a good thing. They gave you a trial to their premium membership. Customers will most likely want to keep the membership after using it, so it's all profit to them. This is ridiculous.

Ya, who would have thought a company that will lose millions of dollars would want to recoup their losses.

Fanboys... I like playing Super Mario Bros but I'm not dumb enough to think Nintendo gives a shoot about me, so why should I back them up no matter what they do?

Will Sony make this up to the users by compensating us with something?

    Agree completely.
    To quote:

    * Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
    * All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
    * Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

Additional “Welcome Backâ€￾ entertainment and service offerings will be rolled out over the coming weeks as the company returns the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services to the quality standard users have grown to enjoy and strive to exceed those exceptions.

So yeah, you'll get something for free.

XBL wasn't hacked then, it was just offline for a few days, so it's not a comparable situation (hell, I could've done without the crappy free game). If I'd gotten my credit card number stolen, the free stuff Sony's giving away now wouldn't really make the whole thing any better.

Because it isn't compensation. They fucked up and are making money from it. They didn't lose money and are gaining more.

Did you eventually get them? If you haven't you should have contacted them. I know others who had them in a week.

Sure it sucks its not instant (should have just been psn codes in the box) but it was 10 free games, I got nothing when I got my go (what I get for buying day one). :crying:
