I'm wondering if sony will ever come out with an elegant solution to such problem... lots of rumor were around around 1 year and half ago...

just wondering, couldn't they made a device that receives video from psp's wi-fi connection and displays it on tv?

or you think they'll never bother with it?

    usb would be faster :p:p

the problem is that they didnt make anything that has access to the frame buffer directly, from what i assume - there would be latency issues if transferred via wireless or even USB.

Actualy there was talk of a posible cable to output to a usb cable that would give a tv signal. The psp firmware is flexable enough that a upper layer kernal could run that would pipe the framebuffer out the usb port to a device that could conver the data to a video signal in real time.

There is the posibility of lag but the usb port on the psp is quite impressive (PSP camera can run at 60hz in real time with audio and be displayed on the psp screen). so I dont think there would be a bandwith issue.

There is a solution out there where you open the PSP and install something between the LCD and the PCB which taps the video signal, as well as taps the controller signals. This all then goes to a connector that fits into a new face plate bringing the video and controller signals to a outside port. This port hooks up to some box that allows you to plug in a PS2 controller to use that, and ofcourse encodes NTSC video to output to your TV. The only problem I heard is that it drops scanlines or something.

I've got one of those PSP2TV kits.

It was a bit shitty to install, as the D-pad got a bit misaligned with the new front cover + I hear other people had problems with analog somehow screwing up.

The PS2 gamepad port is excellent, I currently use it with my wireless logitech pad.

I've got the PAL version of it, it has 2 switches on the back, one to switch between AV/S-VIDEO and one to switch between 4:3 and 16:9 output.
I've only tried playing it through the input of a capturing device I have, so I dunno if it was just that device or the PSP2TV kit that did it, but there were a few vertical lines kinda missing, making tiny font text somewhat unreadable. I guess it's the capture device, which is a few years old + has a slight display delay and such.

Anyway, whenever I get homa again, I'll probably give it a proper "big screen" test and give a final thumbs up or down.

They are the same thing. He pretty much confirmed what I said, the video encoding hardware drops scanlines from the image which will make very fine details look off. 3D scenes would be less affected than 2D.

I've seen alot of various PSP to TV products and I've found none are perfect but the one Carnivol has is probably the best at the moment. And there is hope they will release a new box that connects to it that doesn't drop scanlines which would make it pretty much perfect.

    humm on that topic :)

the latest SVN versions of PSPLINK actually support exporting the PSP display in a VNC style manner, and this also works for commercial games. I was on a seminar where the author of PSPLINK showed it off, this April. He played Lumines from a UMD on it, and it looked pretty damn good and speedy.

I remember seeing video footage of someone using this on YouTube a while back. I thought it was a damned fine adaptation, didn't realise it was available for sale...Hmmm? Must hunt that one down as I'd prefer the controller to be honest.

why should any handheld manufacturer think of putting the image on the big screen? hell, it's made for that small screen! most of the times you'll be finding 3rd party products

    [SIZE=-1]Virtual Network Computing.

So basicly, the guy tunnels/redirects the video output over the USB or WiFi, then some other app/hardware has to process/handle it to view it?

Dude the gba needs to be in interlace since some games use it to their advantage.

I know, that's why it has a number of flicker options :)

That still doesn't make a difference. They could have it in 480p (native) with a layer dealing with the interlace  Progressive signal is the only decent quality i can cram out of my consoles, else I have to rely on cheap upconverters that make games look like crap.

Ultimately, I end up using my PC and GBA emulators more than I use my GBplayer.

Scan through these videos for a demo and explanation, thats the seminar i was talking about - i don't have time to look in which one it was, but i think the 2nd part had the demo of Lumines running on a PC srceen exported off the PSP, via the latest version of PSPLink:

    ftp://breakpoint.untergrund.net/bre...P07_Seminar_Tyranid_PSPOverviewPart1_XViD.avi
    ftp://breakpoint.untergrund.net/bre...P07_Seminar_Tyranid_PSPOverviewPart2_XViD.avi

I talked with the author over a beer afterwards, and it seems pretty straight forward to set up, given you have a recent haxxorable PSP.

    hmmm

well, it will not be simple as in really simple.

PSPLink is a developer tool and makes a few assumptions. The remote display export is available in the latest SVN version, but there is no binary release, and there liekly won't be. Its a good gate control for serious homebrew developers not to get flooded with "OMG this shit does not $%&$ work with game x" -- basically, if you are up to the challenge of getting the stuff off SVN, recompiling thre tool chain, its all yours :) and do yourself a favour and use Linux, i would even think it will not work under Windows at all.
