Hmm... what if you developed a type of AI to learn the solution through trial and error? Just a thought. :p

The problem with this is how does the software know if the result is correct? We know by looking at it, but this is exactly the sort of problem that AI is extremely bad at.

There are also some titles where the developers attempted to work around the limitations of the renderer by intentionally distorting the textures to approximate the correct transform you would have got from the perspective correction - and trying to fix that by adding in the same transform again would make it look terrible - especially since this was generally being done on polys that were very close to the near clipping plane since that's where the lack of perspective correction is the most obvious.

I was sorta kidding about the AI thing. I'm just saying that people have accomplished some pretty amazing things with emulators - things that many previously thought were impossible. So I don't think anything is beyond the realm of possibility.

No, very few things are impossible - I just happen to think that this specific problem is going to be very hard. To be honest, there are probably quite a few titles that you could fix simply by assuming that the list being fed to the GPU is just a Z-sorted version of the stuff output by the GTE during the frame (since that's what the sample render loop in the SDK did), but this will likely have nasty effects on any title that tried to do clever stuff.

How does the Saturn differ from the PS1 in regards to the stuff you're talking about? It seems like polygon bending was less of an issue for the Saturn, and I've heard the claim that it's because the Saturn used quads instead of triangles. Can you explain that a bit? The Saturn was also built to be a 2D machine, and 3D was something that was added on later, isn't that correct? I find this kind of stuff very interesting, although I don't understand a lot of it.

Saturn did use quad and when a game is done right, it looks a lot better than PSX games. But Saturn was somewhat hard to program for because Sega used many chips that weren't designed to work together. Plus Sega added in another CPU to make it look better than PSX

It looks like one of the prototype/scrapped PS1 pads, the one with volume controls next to square and x

There is an emulator that does this, I don't know exactly how it works and I've never tried it. I like the texture warping though, it's more authentic. Unless you hook up an sdcard/usb to a real playstation then a hacked ps3 is probably your best bet.

Really? What's it called? I think it's alright to name emulators, as long as you're not linking roms or anything.

What advantage does this have on ePSXe with a gamepad?

-For some, it's more convenient to hook this up to your tv than a computer, assuming you want to play games on a tv.
-This is definitely cheaper and easier to set up than a computer running epsxe.

These are two pretty low hurdles, but they are hurdles nonetheless. I'm with you though, but then again, I built myself a small computer designed to be plugged into my TV partly with gaming in mind...

    @AleffCorrea
I don't mean to keep the off-topic, so this is the last comment I'll make about it, but that document is from August 1994 (maybe earlier, if it's a translated version from the Japanese documentation), and the PS was first launched in December 1994.
I haven't read the entire pdf, but your quote has no indication as to which are the correct terms to refer to the actual hardware.

Before anyone bashes me, I know that PS-X was the condename for the original PS.
I don't mind people calling it PS, PS1, PSX, PS-X or whatever they want to use to refer to the first PlayStation. I just wanted to make a point that it's preferable to use the right naming to avoid confusion (I know, confusion is almost impossible in this thread; however some people may believe this refers to a clone of the PSX by reading the title, making it misleading).

Well PSP is not all that great for PSX emulation. There are still games with issues. I remember having weird graphical glitches with FF7 on 5.XX firmware's popsloader. Other games have issues for sure.
Plus you're missing a set of shoulder buttons. Still, it's probably the best portable device to play PSX games. Android emus are good but I haven't found them to be superior to the emulator on the PSP.

That depends up on the Android device. the only thing that really holds back the Android emus is the lack of real buttons meaning you really need to use a BlueTooth controller.

I got the PSX emulator on my Android laptop and played some PS1 classics with a PS2 style USB controller. Everything was good with some of the classics. Of course it helps my device is one of the most powerful ARM platforms available right now with 1.8GHz quad core and the infamous Mali 400 GPU.

Mali 400 GPU is annoying. Does what it feels like most of the time...
