I'm not trying to convert you into joining the proto fan club; you've have affirmed your disinterest and that is fine. Logic =/= always right specially when there's such thing as faulty logic. Case in point you are comparing an fps to an rts virtually no one has played much less reviewed. I wasn't persuading you to leave (it was a joke) of course Assembler hosts other diversions.

Okay, so it was supposed to be a Mac and PC title. I know they had officially announced it as a PC title, as PC Gamer included a video of it on one of their discs (I think there was an article about it too).

Actually, the Mac version is based off the already ported PC version, which stemmed from the Xbox.
    Just to further nitpick. =P

& a pre-Xbox beta would be pretty awesome, Mechagouki, because it was a totally different type of game, not just a less complete version of the retail release.

I think that finding real alpha and beta builds for any Rockstar game would be really hard.

Since we are on the topic Halo pre-xbox, here are a few videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tzrme9yWens , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyvARfjomr8

Another thing I'd like to say, is it me or does it seem like we are less likely to see prototypes/early versions of games that were developed overseas rather than in North America?

True that, but what about the third person version of Halo showing Master Chef riding a fucking dinosaur?

From what I can tell, Capcom officially abandoned the Saturn in favour of its successor with the announcement it would be cancelling Nextech's conversion of BioHazard 2 in favour of a new sequel (Code: Veronica) to be developed for the Dreamcast. Any projects that weren't already in production also made the switch, which is why Marvel VS Capcom didn't appear on Sega's 32-bit platform yet the likes of Street Fighter Zero/Alpha 3, Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter and Final Fight Revenge did. Street Fighter III was also a casualty of this decision, though I've no idea whether the "Double Impact" idea was created before or after this game's switch to more powerful hardware. Based on the fact it never appeared for either the Saturn or Dreamcast, I think it's safe to say a home edition of WarZard/Red Earth was never on the cards, even though quite a few magazines and websites back in the day promoted this as being console-bound.

These ones I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet.

    Dinosaur Planet
    Conker 12 tales
    Ura Zelda
    Resident Evil 4 and 5
    Half Life 2
    Team Fortress 2
    Portal 2
early versions of Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker. It would be cool to see the earliest builds of Wind Waker since in the Iwata asks they said that it was originally going to be like the tech demo at spaceworld 2000.

Just imagine if Half Life 3 got leaked now and it would be a playable version. Just what would Gabe do ?

He'd probably start waddling, I'll wager!

    *clears throat*

Anyway, if we're talking uncirculated prototypes most likely to be in the hands of very lucky people somewhere in the world then I could think of literally dozens, most of these examples related to just the Saturn alone...

Sonic Xtreme (PC, engine code and level editor known to be in the possession of programmer Ofer Alon)
Sonic Xtreme ("Project Condor" era Saturn code known to be in the possession of programmer Chris Coffin)
BioHazard 2 (PlayStation, Complete Disc "1.5" footage source, reported to be roughly 75-80% complete)
Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 (confirmed by various Sega employees as existing in at least tech demo form)
Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 (complete "Revision 2" master claimed to have reached Japanese pressing plant)
Shenmue Saturn Version ("Virtua Fighter RPG" build claimed to exist on DAT tape or multiple CD-ROMs)
Formula 1 (Saturn, confirmed by Probe programmer Keith Burkhill as existing in basic wireframe form)
Destruction Derby 2 (Saturn, two incomplete build discs owned by a collector, but yet to be released)
Adidas Power Soccer (Saturn, believed to be 100% complete, but no collectors yet to claim ownership)
Assault Rigs (Saturn, only released in Japan, but localised PAL edition believed to have been produced)
Indy 500 (Saturn, ported by Interplay with some assistance from Sega's AM1 division then cancelled)
Ridge Racer (Saturn, believed to be complete then cancelled due to Namco signing exclusivity deal)
Cyber Sled (Saturn, reported in press - also victim to Sony tempting Namco to its PlayStation console)
King The Spirits 2 (Saturn, only released in Japan, but localised US edition was promoted by Atlus)
Reloaded (Saturn, review copies sent to various magazines, but no collectors yet to claim ownership)
Sega Touring Car (Saturn, preliminary working build with flat shaded vehicles owned by a collector)
Sonic R (Saturn, multiple builds at different levels of completion regularly sent to various magazines)
Fighting Force (Saturn, review copies sent to various magazines and seen in promotional materials)
Ninja (Saturn, advanced playable builds believed to exist prior to Eidos accepting PS exclusivity deal)
Micro Machines V3 (Saturn, multiple development staff confirmed that working playable builds exist)
Lunatik (Saturn, reached advanced state of development when Eidos abandoned platform support)
Legacy Of Kain: Blood Omen (Saturn, believed to be 100% complete and was even briefly advertised)
Bad Mojo (Saturn, believed to have reached preliminary state of development before cancellation)
Waterworld (Saturn, confirmed to be in the possession of Ocean Software staff member Steve Woita)
Grand Theft Auto (Saturn, known to have been in development before focus shifted to PC edition)
Heart Of Darkness (Saturn, reached advanced state - another victim of Sony exclusivity contract)
NBA Hang Time (Saturn, confirmed by member of another porting team as reaching advanced state)
Quake (Saturn, initial GT Interactive/Rage tech demo attempts shown internally within Sega Europe)
Hexen II (Saturn, believed to have reached preliminary, if not later state prior to its cancellation)
Viewpoint (Saturn, believed to have reached advanced development state prior to its cancellation)
X2 (Saturn, footage of late period development build featured in Japanese promotional material)
Muckicker (Saturn, preliminary tech demo seen at 1996 E3 before publisher Scavenger closed)
Spearhead (Saturn, preliminary tech demo seen at 1996 E3 before publisher Scavenger closed)
Angel (Saturn, preliminary tech demo seen at 1996 E3 before publisher Scavenger closed)
Tarantula (Saturn, preliminary tech demo seen at 1996 E3 before publisher Scavenger closed)
Aqua (Saturn, preliminary tech demo seen at 1996 E3 before publisher Scavenger closed)
Terminus (Saturn, preliminary tech demo seen at 1996 E3 before publisher Scavenger closed)
Into The Shadows (Saturn, believed to have reached late state before publisher Scavenger closed)
Heavy Machinery (32X, screenshots of possibly working build shown in various magazines)
Free Runner (Saturn, promoted in magazines with preliminary American cover also known to exist)
Kumite: The Fighter's Edge (Saturn, preliminary tech demo screenshots printed in magazines)
Millennium Fire (Saturn, possible complete build shown in Japanese promotional video footage)
Rattlesnake Red (Saturn/PlayStation, playable build shown at 1996 E3 prior to cancellation)
Pinky And The Brain (Saturn/PlayStation, advanced state build shown at E3 1996 then cancelled)
Monica No Shiro (Saturn, promotional materials released in Japan, suggesting near completion)
Shredfest (Saturn, conversion development and believed to have reached at least preliminary state)
Rocket Jockey (PlayStation, in development at SegaSoft before target platform changed to PC)

Considering how many of these were seen quite openly, there's still a very good possibility that copies may remain with developers, journalists or even publishing staff. Over the years I've heard countless rumours of former Sega employees particularly having some truly historic items from the past in their personal archives, though sadly most are kept under lock and key because of non disclosure agreements that have yet to expire.
