As a lot of us live in Tokyo and a lot of us make visits, I was thinking it would be useful to have a list with google map links to various shops. For example it would be handy to list some of the shops off the beaten path in Akihabara like G-Front or Mak (I know someone who went there 3 times and still managed to miss both) to the Electronic Shop in Akihabara as well as other interesting arcades in Shinjuku to things like the Pokemon Centre and the Sqaure Enix shop. I'd be happy to start a list with a simple list format and maybe a mod could make it a sticky? :D

Sounds like an excellent idea, i had a nightmare finding my way round akiba on my first visit. I'm going again in a few months so this would be great.

That could come in handy, mi sister went to Japan last month and went 2 or 3 times to Akihabara and couldn't find Superpotato, even though she had some references as to how to get there.
I guess she should've checked in Google Maps with street view to get a glimpse of how it'd be.
    Anyway great idea

Okay, I'm going to use Google maps to do it, will do some today and post a link to the whole map as well as featured shop links.

Great idea, let us know the google map link and a few of us could throw in some contributions :D

I guess i have pictures for most of these places too so i could drop those on the map to help.

also -food in Aki. I recall there only being one or two places to go, now there's a whole spectrum of places to try. Personally very happy that we now have a Komen in Aki.

Oh for the love of god *please* do this. I'm leaving in 19 days and this could help me out immensely. I've never even heard of the pokemon center or square enix shop!!!

I tried to make one of these but couldn't figure out how to do multiple locations. Let me know and I'll be glad to get the project going. Would beat the shit out of my crappy (and outdated) Flash Map of Akihabara.

EDIT: I tried again and still can't figure it out. :)

Cool. Shibuya and Shinjuku would probably be decent ones to do as well... at least for Arcades. Although now that Mikado's gone from Shinjuku I'll make fewer trips there... damnit.

Jamtex, if you make it public and tell us the name we can all work on the same map.

Just post the name up and we'll start throwing items on there.

I will do that, I am only going to do it for arcades, game shops, game related shops and other shops of interest, no interest in listing out every food place, as I normally munch onigiri when I am around, but will do another map for that.

I was meant to go there yesterday but never did, but are you sure it's gone as the website (click) was updated not 3 days ago with the current list of games for 9th Junem, plus the address is still the same...

Will do. :) Added half a dozen places so far. Although IE7 is shit at handling Google Maps, once you get to around 20 odd places it does slow down noticablely... Chrome is better (no surprise there then...).

I guess it is possible that they will simply have two arcades: Shinjuku and Takadanobaba. I was told that the Takadanobaba one was open, so I assumed Shinjujku was closed. I might swing by there next time I'm in the hood, just to see. You can't miss it -- it's right across from the Prince Hotel.

EDIT: The Takadanobaba one has a Taikan Space Harrier in it, I hear.

I've got a stupid question for whoever posts Akihabara HEY! arcade: was it renamed as TAITO Station? I haven't been there in a few years.

The website (without the /shinjuku bit) does statet they have two arcades now. Which given they probably had a stack of spare PCBs was likley to happen. :)

I am going to visit it before I leave. :)

One this is for sure... this thread would have a lot more merit as a sticky than the "dating in Japan" thread. This is a video game board, after all.

Checking the site, it doesn't have Space Harrier, but does have Outrun & Afterburner. Afterburner II upright. Seems that the Takadanobaba one got the majority fo the fighting games, and a lot of the shooters. Shinjuku is definitely taking a back seat, but it's better than nothing.

Not unless it was done within the last few weeks.
