Yamanote around (the top) to Tokyo station.
    Shinkansen to Shin Osaka
    Midosuji Line to Nanba
    Sennnichimae Line to Nipponbashi

Shinkansen is about 13,500 yen each way, if memory serves. I've not been in a year though, and I always just run through the gate.

JR pass is £220 for a week, that's what I am buying when I go (October/November) and planning a trip to Kyoto and maybe up north (as far as the pass lets me) which will more than be worth the outlay.

Japan is phenomenal for Retro Gaming. Another country maybe worth a visit, there is another slice of gaming heaven in Hong Kong.

The famous or rather infamous Golden Computer Plaza.

My first time at Golden was zo incredible, seeing electronics wherever you went in those narrow hallways.. Lovely.

Yes, get one of these. One road trip pays for it.

I'm out of town most of your trip, btw. :(
    I think I'll be back on 11/5.

I leave on the 13th November, so if you are free before the 11th/12th we could catch a quick beer/meal, no worries if you aren't available.

Thinking now of going island hopping, again depending on how far I can get on the JR pass and depending on what ferry/domestic flights cost, might see if I can get down to Chichijima or wherever.

I presume you know Den Den town is in osaka right? 400km from tokyo. You would need to take the shinkansen (bullet train) and it takes between 2 1/2 - 3 hrs.

Such distances really dictate you need to stay there for a while, with kyoto only 30 mins away its well worth doing.

Hard Off's can be good, but it seems in recent months the bigger stores have been scaling back on their stock. So bearing in mind there all in the suburbs, it may be a wasted journey. There's also Kanteidan stores which are spread around Chiba, once again tho there arn't many within walking distance of a station.

Tbh with the very very poor exchange rate, you will struggle to find many good bargins, on my last trip in August time after time i would see stuff that i could get cheaper on ebay back in the UK.

But if you have money to burn, japan has the best variety even if it means paying through the teeth for it.

OK slightly off topic but where can i buy colgate!?
A toothpaste with a lot of fluoride like colgate, or crest regular, ACT fluoride rinse and Closys mouth wash.
I'm using some teeth whiteners so i need to remineralise quick, unfortunately GUM is not cutting it
