I was also surprised it said Resident Evil and not Biohazard. It doesn't look like it shows your head being lopped off by the chainsaw enemy but it could be like that for all.
If you press start you can then go to the menu and sort the aim to be faster but its still pretty slow. The game runs on all regions. However i cant play it for very long before i get annoyed. Has anyone noticed the amount of tearing there is.
I think at this point in time, it's a bit lazy of Capcom to release the demo in Japan only, it's a shame you have to go through this trouble just for a demo. I'm even more pissed off as the demo is already multi-language, the whole Gold exclusivity is crap as well, everybody should be able to get the demo day one. I had really high expectations for RE5, it's a beautiful game but isn't the game mechanism getting a bit too old? I loved RE4 but since then games with brilliant controls like GoW, CoD4 came out, I know there are not the same type of games but they should be a model for control and playability. It could be me getting lazy but I got frustrated already with the controls after 5 minutes of play. I loved most of the REs and sometimes played them fully several times (RE2) and I look forward to this one, it's a very polished demo and probably no time is left for improving controls. But the whole thing feels clunky control wise compared to recent games. But hey that's always been part of the RE experience....
After playing it again im not gonna bother playing it anymore. I dont like the way the camera hangs, the slow walking, the slow aim, the tearing, the control is horrible, err im sure other stuff put me off too.
Yeah, I just got Dead Space and it controls like RE4/5 but wayyy better. Hopefully stuff gets fixed up. The thing that annoys me the most is the damn lack of ammo. I guess just keep in mind its a demo. I know what you mean though, aside from the tearing. I think I can forgive the lack of ammo on the first level of the demo, since its suppose to be a survival thing, but still.
Not going to bother playing the demo (at least just yet) but I hope it's a good game seeing as how I've ordered the £150 special-super-duper-edition...
Well, 4 wasn't totally like that, and this one seriously, you reload once and your out. Then you have to split ammo between both characters. It really did get annoying, but I replayed the demo and figured out that part was a survival style level, so it sort of makes sense.
So I downloaded the demo (thanks 1080peter!) and I don't know what you're all moaning about, this game looks to be just RE4 in Africa. All the complaints I hear in this thread (aiming/movement is slow, ammo is scarce, camera is at an unusual angle) are basically criticisms of the type of game it is, rather than the implementation. If you don't like tense survival horror games, you won't like this, but if you liked RE4, then you'll be right at home. Everything is basically the same. I don't see any visual tearing either, just for the record. EDIT: the voice acting is terrible. Colour me surprised.
Whatever Mr. Superior...:110: My only real complaint is no moving + aiming kind of sucks, especially after playing Dead Space. Enemies are faster and more pentiful then in RE4 so this would really help.
I had to bite my tongue to prevent myself from saying "you're all just shit at this game, go play it some more, and learn how to use the knife", which would actually have been acting superior. I don't understand the complaints at all though... at least, I don't know how anyone could enjoy RE4 and not like this, because it's basically the same game in a different setting. I don't think they're that much faster, but it's hard to know what area of the game these levels represent. If they're the beginning then it's certainly pretty tough. Regarding the moving/aiming thing... that's kind of the point of survival horror games. They don't give you full control of the situation, and if they do, it's not scary any longer. A lot of people felt RE4 strayed too far from the formula so maybe they're trying to get back to the old days a bit. I've played both the demo levels twice now and I'm pretty comfortable in saying that it's a guaranteed purchase for me, anyway.
if it busts your balls, it's true resident evil. you must realize that salvaging ammo/guns/herbs is part of the scare-factor of Resident Evil, because it puts you under stress and mistakes are more easily made, making it a harder game that you may have to replay quite a few times to get it right, making you its slave by the time you master it - sorta like oldschool shmups!
Same, it's just I think it's not as amazing as RE4. I still love it though. Alchy: You should seriously check out Dead Space if you loved RE4 like me, it's seriously fucking awesome. I'm halfway through it and can't complain about a single thing. It actually made me jump a few times as well. I'm so surprised it was made by fucking EA! I was going to suggest the demo, but the demo doesn't really do it justice...worth a look though.
I finally got off my ass tonight to take my 360 over to the office where I get real internet (cheers for the MAC address spoofing, Microsoft, I'd have been fucked without it), so I could download some XBLA goodness and a few demos to decide what the next few purchases are going to be. Dead Space is pretty much a given, I was sold after the sound development diaries video, so I'll take the demo with a pinch of salt if you say it doesn't do it justice. I'll also be checking out Mirror's Edge, seems like it's a unique but flawed game, we'll see I guess.
Yeah, Dead Space is totally worth it. I seriously can't complain about anything in it, lol. It makes my 5.1 sound and 27" HDTV totally worth it, it really has excellent sound. I had trouble getting anywhere in the demo, some stuff is removed (it's wierd how small the demo is), and it doesn't really show you how to do some stuff, but it's still gives you a good feel. Mirrors Edge seems to be pretty cool too, like Breakdown done right or something. EA is surprising these days.
Thanks for the tip 1080Peter. I'm downloading it now. Much easier than all the crap I heard you had to do initially.
Im stuck at work for the next few hours but when i get home ill be playing RE5, if anyone would like to join, add me! XBL=skavenger216
Yeah, they sort of are. They seem to have made a decision to inject money into risky new IPs, which is baffling from a profitability standpoint, but really encouraging from a "what's fucking wrong with the industry today" standpoint. Cautious thumbs up I suppose. Apparently Mirror's Edge misses more than it hits, but I've been highly critical toward the potential of first-person platform games in the past, and I really want to be proven wrong. I also think the visual thing they're doing is lovely, and aside from anything else I think that games that take bold and interesting risks ought to be rewarded with sales. (Yes, I recognise that the 5th iteration of Resident Evil doesn't exactly fall into that category.)
