    Retrovision...

hmmm what is it that irks me over retrovision.. Well I believe it has something to do with too much national pride. But national pride is nothing bad, but too much is bad. And what do I mean by that ? Well I have to be honest Robin is making a smashing great video game show that could compete with Retrocore..............

If it has English subtitles and used English language games. Since, if the game is in only French and no translation has been made. Then I could live with the English subtitles explaining what the game was about. Robin, if you read this and understand what I am saying, then understand this. if you want to better to either write or speak English, then you have to fucking use it more in speech or in writing. And after all there are only two countries (in Europe) that uses it, one is viva la France itself and the other one is the French speaking part of Belgium . And then we have the froggy part of Canada. Ok, I am lieing in Switzerland they are speaking it too. But still, after all I know there is a number between 150 and 600 million people speaking French world wide.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_language

Robin, if I had too much Danish national pride, I wouldn´t be speaking English well, at all. But I do have national pride, but I won´t let it overshine my wish to understand other people , and be understood by other people.

Whether you want it or not, then French isn´t a world language, and neither is Danish. But English is the most commonly spoken world language, except of course when it comes to Chinese , but well there are an an arseload of multiple dialects / languages in China. And there are over one fucking billion Chinese people so it is a reason, why the Chinese written language is a world language. But if you want your show to be more popular in the English speaking world, then you have to get your writing pen out of your arse, and begin writing English subtitles and using English games, and so forth. But if you want to use the Japanese games, then fine. But still remember to have English subtitles. I hope you understand, if you are reading this. That your show is fucking great, but it would become extremely popular if you made it more English friendly. Since I think your start speech in French is fine, and wonderful. Since I know it is common polite stuff you are saying, but after all if your English spelling is fine, then begin making some damn English subtitles. And if you are uncertain of a word, then look it up in a French / English dictionary. And what about remaking your old episodes, but make the subtitles in English and use English versions of the games. And I hope you see this post as constructive criticism.

I think the reason why Retrovision is in French is because Robin isn't as good at English as you may think. Sure, practice makes perfect however putting together a games show in your own language takes a lot of work so doing one in a language you're not perfect at is even more. Robin has asked if I know of someone who can do a French to English translation of the show for him so I doubt it's all about National Pride.

Okay it was just an idea, but as I have said before. His recording skills are superb and I think I hope that he can understand. That I really do enjoy a lot of what he is doing. So please tell him, that I am the last person to be a bad person when it comes to him.

Just watched eps 5 of Retrocore II, a really great show as usual Yakumo. The snappy, shorter editing was an excellent choice as well.

It's really cool that you mentioned Retrovision on your show. I've been following Retrovision since the beginning and I must say Robin puts a lot of heart and energy in his work. As for the whole 'French-only' thing that has been mentioned here, as a trilingual (French/Dutch/English speaking) Belgian with French relatives, I think everybody should realise that the French (retro)gaming scene has always been very hardcore and dedicated, really on the same level as the UK scene for example. This has nothing to do with any French chauvinism. The French (and French- Belgian) educational system just doesn't put enough effort in learning people other languages. I'm sure the same goes for English speaking countries as well. I think it's obvious Robin primarily makes Retrovision for French speaking retro fans out there but he's also, undoubtedly, very open-minded. After all, shouldn't all oldschool gamers speak the same language? ;)

Oh and French-English translation? That shouldn't be a problem, happy to oblige :)

Then please help Robin. Since I understand English and speaks it quite well, if I am allowed to say that. And then I understand Norwegian, and Swedish too. And of course I am a native speaker of Danish by the way, so I do understand written and spoken Danish too. And I can do a pretty damn great retranslation back and forth in the English/Danish department.
But I DON`T speak, write or understand French. But I think Robin´s work is excellent. And I do know how to pronounce his name in French, but anyway. I am grateful that you will make the French to English translation. And I do hope, that Robin sees my comments as encouragement, not the opposite.

Would you like me to forward your mail address to Robin ? I'm sure he'd be very happy for help on the English version of Retrovision. I know I'd be happy to see it in English since I only studied French for 2 years n school. Needless to say I know pretty much nothing these days.

Please do  I'd be simplest if he'd send me a transcription of his French subtitles, I'd translate the lot and if he's happy with the result, perhaps he can put up an English version of his show on Archive.org and on his own Youtube account.

Like my Japanese then, I can barely read my own Japanese manga collection these days, gotta get back to my college textbooks one of these days :)

I've taken the liberty of translating the French subtitles of the very first episode of Retrovision into English. I think it took me about an hour and a half or something, thanks to Robin's clear and to the point comments ;-)

You can read the English translation of eps 1 on this Google doc:
    http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dfztp4j4_0c365srpx

You can watch or download this episode on archive.org at:

My French is a little better than my English mind you (French is my second language). I've done an extra spell check on the translation, I hope it's adequate for everyone. I tried to translate the French subtleties into English as best as I could.

And to Robin: happy to oblige

What footage is that? The one where Ryo is running through Hong Kong with no textures on half of the stuff and I end up running across the road as it bridges over the river? Or do you mean the stuff where Ryo is riding a push bike?
