The very first Shutokou Battle games are on the Super famicom :) There's a really good Sega Saturn version too. Apart from those I've only played the Dreamcast games (both of them) and the XBOX 360 game. I really love Wangan Midnight run in the arcades though. may get that for the PS2 (if it's on the PS2)

The Dezaemon videos were...interesting, several games that looked good enough to maybe have been real 16-bit games. The new Retro Core was good too, and sad but true I never knew about those extra features in Battle Garegga despite playing it quite a lot. As a Transformers fan (although I can't agree with G1 being the only "good Transformers", Beast Wars is great and directly connected to G1!) it's pretty disappointing that most of the TF games suck: the only truly good ones IMO are the Armada one on PS2 (even though being based on Armada is a con) and the Cybertron games on 360/PS3.

I used to think Battle Garegga as a very pretty shooter with nothing very progressive until i played it with the guy that created the online service MameHub who i think still goes by Jgmath http://www.mamehub.info/ , i learned quickly this game was made for 2 player, the combination techniques are insane, one of my favorites is the wall of spikes connected by both team mates, i could go on, i think we even one coined it after the first 3rd play-through, really love that game.

Transformers i did'nt know about the graphics ill admit look really dang good and the title which sounds like a remix of the original movie title song sounds great to me,but once in game with the game-play and the voices absolute trash I'd still play because im a fan though.

Run saber is cool though i do prefer strider, but ad a second player and that where the magic is since no strider game has a 2player not even OSMAN/CANNON DANCER which i did a video for about a year back, and a fantastic game at that, i even had New Jersey and a NY trance dj use it at one of his shows in the bronx and people ate it up.

I'm a little late to the party Yakumo but I will say this:

I love Retro Core and all of the iterations that it has had in terms of volumes. From the style of editing that you use to even just the content, it always keeps me coming back to watch another episode. It sounds ungodly corny when I say, but I'm glad to see that there is someone else out there who enjoys making videos (not to say that you are the only one aside from me because that would be a blatant lie) and can captivate an audience as well as you do.

I would like to ask you one question though Yakumo: I did see your "behind the scenes" video on how you edit the Retro Core episodes and I saw what your narration setup was like which is why I ask this question. Would you by chance like a microphone? I wouldn't mind sending it to contribute to the show because I have a spare Blue Yeti and I've found the narration on them to be really well for a USB microphone. I wouldn't mind paying for the shipping and such if you were interested because I would just like to get rid of it to be honest with you.

Oh man, that would be so awesome of you if you could send me the microphone. I'd be more than happy to pay the shipping. I've heard about those Blue Yeti mics before. They seem to be pretty good and so easy to use. It's funny because on Twitter someone mentioned I should do a kickstarter for some pro recording equipment :)

I don't mind sending it at all man! It'll be a couple of days until I get around to shipping it because of the weather plus my paycheck doesn't go in until next Monday. Personally, I think you'll like the microphone because of what it can do plus if you don't like the standard desk mount, you can change it out for a mic stand. It's just nice to get rid of the thing because ever since my friend moved in with us, I've been losing certain parts of space to help him feel at home. It's not a bad thing but I don't have a need for the second microphone since my original Blue Yeti is still basically brand new.

I watched Volume 15 the other day. Very nice. I agree that Initial D Special Stage is pretty close to the arcade. I haven't completed the story mode, but I've played it quite a bit. It plays just like the arcade game. I started watching the Dezaemon Special, but I wasn't able to finish it unfortunately.

Are you still planning on releasing an official site version of the Galaxy Force II Battle of the Ports episode? I was thinking a really good game to do for BotP would be Sega Rally. There have been tons of ports of that game, and most of them are pretty good.

I've just ordered Wangan Midnight Run for the PS2. I'm hoping it's as good as the arcade version.

The official version of the Galaxy Force video will be up within the next 24 hours. I'm just working on the next Battle of the Ports. It's another Sega arcade classic but not a Super scaler game.

I've thought about Sega Rally but really there aren't that many ports. There's the arcade, 2 Saturn versions, Japanese mobile phone, ps2 and PC but that's it. I actually own all apart from the arcade so it would be mame for that. Are there any versions I'm missing?

There's a GBA version and an NGAGE version. I was also thinking of Sega Rally Online Arcade, but I guess it's actually a port of Sega Rally 3. It does include the Desert track from the original arcade game.

I had no idea about the Super Famicom game! I tried the Saturn version but didn't get into it (probably didn't give myself enough time to sink my teeth into it!), and had no idea about the XB360 game - it was released locally under a different title (WTF), but I've added that to my list of titles to grab as well. It sounds like the game evolved into Wangan Midnight Run - are they worthwhile tracking down on PS2/XB360?

The arcade Midnight Run games, well from part 2 are really good. I do love them. They are actually made by Genki (makers of Shutoko Battle) for Namco and music by Yuzo Koshiro amongst others. I actually own the 2nd and third game OST CDs.

There are no Midnight Run games for the 360 with them being namco titles so of course they ended up on a Sony console.

I used to love Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune in the arcade. I still have 2 of the cards for that machine. It's too bad they never made a console port of that version, as far as I know. It might've been a little difficult to port that game to a console like the PS2, but the Xbox probably could have handled it (the arcade version used the Chihiro board).

The merch could even feature tag lines from old Retro Core seasons, like the spiel for the sh*te of the month stuff from the first season!
