DOS , and some more ancient computers, such as NEC PC-9801 , Acorn Archimedes , the SNES and the GBA.
We used to have a few Acorn Archimedes in my school as a kid. Must have been about 25 years ago now. I remember we would play a racing game on it called E-Type.
Well, since you are that older than me. I have never had that pleasure of playing either the NEC PC-9801 or the Acorn, but I do know about the Acorn. And from now on I will try to NOT post about your great series BOTP in your other thread about your other great series, which is Retro Core. Sorry But yeah the old computers and what not , such as consoles and what have you. Is actually pretty interesting and exciting, it is no wonder why I some times delve into all that
Ah yes, that's it. The new volume of Retro Core is out now with the 14th volume now available for download in 720p at 60fps on the official site. The official site is going under some changes at the moment and for some reason the page is cut off when viewing on a phone or tablet and on Fire Fox the links are messed up so until I get time to fix this issue I'll just post the direct link - http://www.segagagadomain.com/retrocore/rc4-14.htm
I think there's something wrong with the official site download. I downloaded it and it wouldn't play. It showed no image, and there was no sound, although I could move to different positions in the timeline. Maybe you made a mistake when you were encoding it? I'm talking about the 60fps version, I'm not sure about the other version. EDIT: Apparently there is sound, but no video.
Hmm, I've taken a look and indeed the video is missing. It should be there as I use a pre-saved setting which I use for all the 60fps videos. Hmm, the file size is right but no video showing. I have no idea what has gone wrong with the encoding. I'll run it through the software I used to encode it and see if that can shed some light on to why it's not working. The 30fps version is just fine. Again, this uses the same pre-saved setting but just a 30fps.
That's strange. Maybe you accidentally disabled the video? Some video encoders have a checkbox for audio and video, so maybe you accidentally unchecked the video. That doesn't explain why the file is the same size, though. Maybe it converted it to some weird format that most video players won't recognize.
No, nothing like that. There's no option to turn off one or the other. All I can think is that the encoding codecs messed up for some reason. I'll take a look tonight when I get home.
Very excited the latest one's up for download! I'll wait until the 60fps is confirmed as fixed and will then grab it - it's 46 degrees outside (nearly 115 degrees F), so I'm looking for any excuse to go into the study to queue it up over my rubbish connection since it's so hot
Sorry guys. There will be no 60fps version. The file is indeed only audio. There's no video data in the file which begs the question, where the hell did it go? I no longer have the raw footage either so there's no way to make a 60fps version. I'm afraid there's only going to be a 30fps version but at least it's higher quality than YouTube.
Oh well, I guess I'll just watch the 30fps version. Don't you keep a backup of your project files? It's a good idea to do that, even if it's just on an external HDD or something.
No, I don't keep them because that would take up way too much space. 1 volume of Retro Core uses about 30 to 40 GB of video data so once the final shows are made I delete the raw data. I normally check everything I make before deleting the raw data but in the only case I never checked it would have to be the file with an issue I record in MPEG2 at 20 to 24mbps 720p at 60fps (59.9). To keep all the raw footage from the shows would take many terrabytes of space. So I only keep the finished shows on my server.
Hm... well, MPEG2 probably isn't the best format for recording stuff. There are other codecs that would use more or less space, but MPEG2 doesn't have a great balance of quality to file size, compared to more modern formats. I would suggest switching to a different format, but I don't know which ones are available to you. I use Final Cut Pro for editing mostly, so certain codecs like Apple ProRes aren't available in other software. Another thing that you could do that would save space but also work as a backup, is in addition to exporting the final cut to the format that you'll be distributing it on, you could also do a very high quality version of it. That way, you won't have the original footage anymore, but you'll have the entire edit in a high quality format, so you can always convert that to other formats or make minor changes if you need to. And when I say "high quality", I mean something that you could use for editing, not what the end-user will see.
No worries Yakumo - for your sake I'm sorry to hear the 60fps version didn't work out either given the extra time taken to render and upload it to your site. I'm grabbing the 30fps version as I type this, looking forward to watching it later tonight in somewhere air-conditioned!
I just watched volume 14. It was a good one. That Appleseed game looks pretty awful. I've seen one of the newer movies, I think it was the one that came out in 2004. I don't really remember much about it, other than that I thought the visuals were pretty good. I thought that Pulseman game looked really cool. I might have to pick that up, once I get a dedicated Mega Drive system.
Pulse man is really hard though. I mean harder than Tresure standards. It's also very long which means you won't want to play through it in one sitting.
