I recently made a video about the Mega Drive EverDrive X5 after seeing quite a bit of false info out there on some YouTube channels.
You're Retro Core? I've been watching your videos a lot lately after having been dormant from the scene for 4-5 years. Awesome stuff.
Japan, here I come! (well, in a couple of years, when I'll be fluent in Japanese) I really like these kinds of videos, you should do more of them.
When i went to japan long ago it was forbidden to take videos in all arcades and the stewards were adamant and annoying
Yep, that's right. It's prohibited to film in the arcades which is why I have to go undercover. Good results this time round I feel.
Really impressed with the review - and haven't these Chinese clones improved a lot over the years? I remember shelling out probably the same amount for the mighty PCP all those years ago (for a laugh) and comparing the two now, they're world's apart. Is that handheld available online on eBay? I might even pick one up. What got me most was the quality of the screen and the sound - even picking it up through the camera it sounded pretty crisp... I wonder if the problems with interference on the TV were simply due to very poor quality wires or perhaps bad soldering? Seems to me the major downfall with any cheap Chinese product is the soldering most of the time - and not the hardware itself.
I always wanted to visit Japan. Here in America the arcade scene dried up about 15 years ago. By the way I saw a couple of cabinets with Elevator Action and Rastan running. Were these some sort of emulation cabinets? Thanks for the video
It did! Better than I expected, you could see most of the games and really pick up the atmosphere. By the way love the guy about halfway through playing a machine who spots you and gives you a look as if to say "what do you want". Are arcades still popular over there? Would absolutely love to explore a few. On another note how's the Dreamcast episode coming along?
Have you considered a pocket mounted go pro for these arcade filmings? A Go Pro is small enough to be hidden.
I'm not sure if you can pick this particular model up on Ebay as I never use Ebay but I'm sure there's something like it. Just look out for the CoolBaby name. I have another clone here by the same company. The shell is different but the insides seem the same. The TV out on this is poor due to cheap solder. It could be fixed quite easily. Hmm, I guess they are emulation but they're official products used to provide classic games via the net. Various companies are part of the project including Taito and Data East. Hahaha, I wondered how on earth that guy spotted me. Must have been my reflection in his screen or something. Arcades over here are still very popular. There's a real community of groups who get together to play the latest games or classics they once played as kids. In arcades such as the one featured on this video, most of the customers are from their mid 20s upwards. The Dreamcast Retro Core is coming along. I've recently got an all new video cable for it so I'm now reshooting the game footage. They cost way too much money for me I used my 2 year old Xperia ZL2. Can film 1080p at 60fps. The results were pretty good I thought considering I couldn't see what I was filming.
