It's also surprising how few hits they actually had, chart stats wise. I always thought they had about 9000 number ones. Funny talking about Five Star, I remember them being told they were "fucking shit!" on Going Live. Matt Bianco got called "a bunch of wankers" as well if I recall right!
One quick search of YouTube and here it is: Interesting fact: The kid in the grey jumper next to Sarah Greene (who was ridiculously hot back then, and still is) is comedian Michael McIntyre (sic?). :excitement: Im sure the Matt Bianco one must be on there somewhere...
Oh wow, great find. Also, Matt Bianco were wankers I actually saw that show when it was on TV. And yeah, Sarah Green was seriously hot back then as was Anthea Turner (SP?) And who would have thought that kid would grow up to be a top comic!
Sarah Greene is MILFtastic! Anthea Turner was top drawer in her Blue Peter days, slow decline after that though. I remember the Matt Bianco incident too, that was on Saturday Superstore with the 'trying too hard to be trendy' Mike Reid. That was around 1985 or 1986 I think. Tiswas and Swap Shop were during my time but I was too young to remember any of that. Back then I was watching Espinete y sus Amigos (some forum members from Spain may know that show, it was like Sesame Street but featured a pink hedgehog call Espinete as the main character instead of Big Bird, whos name sounds more like a girl you'd see on a night out in Hull ) on TVE in Barcelona and being taught by my Catalan family that I must NEVER support Real Madrid, they (and Espanyol) are evil! Haha!
Volume 22 of Retro Core 3 is now online Yet another packed show with loads to see. The show kicks off with a pretty tough shooter for the SFC, Flying Hero flowed by Virtua Racing Arcade, Ace Wo Narae! for the SFC, Super Airwolf on the Mega Drive, Spongebob Squarepants Atlantis for the GBA, The odd but pretty cool Entrax for the NEC PC98 and finally Terminator for the Mega Drive. Retro Core 3 Volume 23 is out now. It's been a while in the making but finally I've put the 23rd volume of Retro Core 3 together. The video quality is slightly lower in this show (still 720p) and does corrupt twice due my my video capture card having issues with an updated driver. Anyway, There's some good stuff in this volume with Dead or Alive on the Sega Saturn, Toobin' from Atari for the Arcade, a VS feature for Night Striker, Kat's Run on the Super Famicom, Tri Formation on the Master System and a new feature called Modern Retro where I take a look at a current generation game that is a remake, improved or heavily based upon a retro classic. Oh, and let's not forget Shite of the Show. This volume's Shite of the Show is Panzer Dragoon Mini for the Game Gear.
Good Episode. I used to put in hours of play on Toobin in this dank ass arcade then it came out for the NES and I put even more time into it. I ALMOST like the NES version better than the Arcade
Night Striker is a nice game and I love how so many 80s and early 90s arcade games were "inspired" by movies: Night Striker - Blade Runner, After Burner - Top Gun, Thunder Blade - Blue Thunder, Space Gun - Aliens, Operation Wolf - Rambo... Now I have to try Double Dragon Neon.
Yep, that's also pretty crap. I have featured that on Retro Core in the past. I can't remember what show it was though.
gotta love the ol school cassette tapes i remember rewinding them wih a pencil or pen for our walkmans in school before there were cd walkmen and mini disc and mp3, pencil was used to rewind to save battery life haha
Watched it through last night Yakumo - another awesome episode Looking forward to a Geist Force-inspired episode in the future!
I did a Geist Force video a few weeks back. It was listed as a Retro Core Geist Force Special. I will do another in the future with a voice over.
Nice episode. I really need to get a Master System one of these days. Is it only the Japanese Master System that has the FM-synth chip? What about the US version? While I agree that the Saturn version of DOA is very nice, the Model 2 version is undeniably better-looking due to the 3D backgrounds. As far as gameplay, they seem very similar to me, but I'm not really skilled enough to make a judgement about that.
The model 2 version of dead or live sure does look better but the Saturn version is a lot sharper on the moves and timing. Sadly its only the Japanese Master System that has the FM chip. Both the PAL. And US. Systems have poor audio. The strange thing is that some games that were exclusive to Europe have FM sound in the code however it does nothing on a Western system.
is that still the case if the master system games are played though the megadrive? via the power base converter?
