Hunting down UG makes no sense. In the full terms of the law it's violating copyright material but it's all old much like abandonware. Really sad I had a few huge torrents that I was planning to get from there. That was one of the only places where you could find Maniac Mansion TV Show VHS-rip and those kind of obscure stuff. Sad sad day... =/
So that's why all of my seeds died? Just when I considered contributing to the community as well. At least I can do away with torrent clients for a while.
Damn! I'm very sorry, I very like UG filosophy I hope who have closed UG don't have registered or have access users ip log and traffic :S
According to their chat it doesn't have to do with GoG or EA (they mentioned Fifa '98 as an example of the problem they face; overzealous 3rd party infringement hunters looking for anything that looks bad).
WTF, this was the best tracker I knew, ofc they only enlarged your e-penis if you made a novel-long description, but it was a really great place to find old and/or rare stuff, with lots of fullsets! Sucks major asses...
Gentlemen. Many of you seem to jump to the conclusion we're dead and gone, with very little to back that theory up. It ain't over till the fat lady sings.
I've just heard of this news too not too long ago as i was trying to enter the site definitely a very depressing day indeed! i hope they find some way to get this backed up & running soon
I was a long time user of the site (VIP member to boot) but hadn't been on much in recent years. I just was on there a week ago looking around and got a sega game gear game that I missed playing. Then I went there last night and it gone. Would love an update on the situation if anyone has one. I read above where they said it wasn't EA related. Hopefully things get back to normal.
There are some mirrors of bitGamer here and there, and they are totally useless. Just to watch the old good descriptions and nothing more. If they restore the backup in other tracker the hash of the files will be different so we will have to start again. BTW, it seems to GOG have nothing to do with this "GOG has *NOTHING* to do with this".
Actually, no. Torrent hash depends on the contents of the info dictionary (files, checksums, private flag and source tag). If those are not altered, the hash remains the same. The reason bitgamer archive has different hashes is due to the private flag being disabled to permit use of DHT and peer exchange.
