Some of you might have seen that I bought an RVT-R disc and then ended up hacking my DVD-ROM to read it, but gave up after some time. But recently I gave it another try and within a short amount of time I could perfectly dump Wii/GC discs and finally I could dump the RVT-R disc for which I hacked the drive in the first place. The RVT-R disc I dumped is once decrypted(DVD-encryption) like a normal Wii disc, it has the partitions and everything looks like the same. It doesn't use the retail-common-key but the debug-common-key(which I luckly have). Here is the filelist of the game partiton of the game I dumped if anyone cares: http://crediar.no-ip.com/hs.txt it's from a "Heatseeker Preview" disc (which I got here:thumbsup: ) Next step would be to write a tool to reencrypt the whole disc with the retail-common-key and it should run on a retail Wii. oh btw I used a Hitachi GD-2500 for dumping the disc it's like 10years old and one of the first DVD drives.
I don't think the key is public knowledge and can be found via google. It should be in the RVT-R tool package for the SDK, which isn't public either to my knowledge.
I know the retail key could be of great interest for those who want to make applications run in proper Wii mode, and of course to various other infringing causes.
Wow, congratulations! I love seeing this sort of stuff happen. Thanks for not giving up on it! Although Heatseeker probably isn't the best use of this back, I can see in the future that much more desirable content can be shared using the same method. One for the books, for sure!
Hi crediar Are you working on a "ISO Maker" for the Wii ? You will probably use the trucha bug to sign the disc And thanks for your great "Preloader" it very usefull.
Hi crediar, I too dumped some RVT-R discs but even re-encrypting them with the retail key didn't help booting them on a normal retail unit after-wards. My dump method was a bit hackish, I simply used an LG drive (RawDump compatible) and performed a swap with an original Wii disc which was inserted before then the rest was easy.
Well I assume that a RVT-R is pretty much like a retail Wii with a different drive and the NDEV menu (I got that and it runs fine on a retail Wii) and of course all the debug-key/cert stuff. So just reencrypting(+rehashing) the disc won't be engough, but it shouldn't be impossible to get it running since we got pretty much full control over the Wii. does anyone here have a hitachi GD-2500 drive? Would really like to test my app one another one. Also if anyone wants a dump of a RVT-R disc just fax it over
an RVT-R is a Wii with a special drive which can read discs burned with an RVT-R Burner, it's probably used for review/preview stuff, news mags and so on.
just tried my rip in the dolphin emu and hey it really booted http://crediar.no-ip.com/hs1.jpg http://crediar.no-ip.com/hs2.jpg http://crediar.no-ip.com/hs3.jpg http://crediar.no-ip.com/hs4.jpg <-- that must be a joke starting the game itself sadly crashes the emu.
I just bought one based on your results, I hope you won't mind helping me try dump some mystery wii discs I have.
I saw your thread on tehskeen about those discs, didn't they say 'RANDOM DATA' on the inner cycle on the data surface? Normally on pressed nintendo discs they have the game serial there like "RVL-RFNP-0A-0 JPN". (Complete text: IFPI LL30 308C0305 RVL-RFNP-0A-0 JPN S0 or 50 )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eXAEdDeUyU (when I posted this youtube was still processing) It basicly shows how I run the HeatSeeker game on my wii.
Could you offer any assistance in teaching your methods to me? I have a few RVT-R's I'd love to have dumped. Thus far I've only been able to dump retails with one of the compatible dvdrom drives. :-(
