This might be a little off topic, but has it been confirmed that RTV-R disks will work on a modded Wii (whether that be a soft-mod or hard-mod)?
It is possible to take the bits from an RVT-R disc and then burn them onto a DVD-R, then use a modded retail Wii to boot the disc. (You will also either need to re-encrypt the image with the retail key and fakesign it, or use a loader which contains the dev common key and does everything on the fly.) It is not possible to simply put a RVT-R disc into a retail Wii, no matter what you do to the poor drive.
So hypothetically, if there was a loader that contains the dev common key, I can put the disk in, and the loader will decrypt + run everything necessary to make the game boot? Without any dumping + re-burning the game with the bits changed?
There is a program which runs the dev stuff on a retail wii but its not for common usage, means its nearly impossible to get your hands on it.
It works on Nr-disc, i've dumped my bba config disc for the tdev. Surprise! there is more than just the bba app ^^.
I'm right in assuming that, even if you dump an RVT-R with this method, you can't decrypt the disk without the Wii Dev Common Key, right? And the dev key isn't public knowledge. I have an RVT-R I'd like to dump and decrypt, but it sounds like I can only achieve half of that here. Got my hopes up!
You will need the DEV key in order to "open" the dumped RVT-R on your computer, thats right. Also the DEV key isnt public knowledge and thats the good thing... Programs you usually use for opening a Wii ISO simply wont open the RVT-R image without the DEV key.
So, it's been a while since I've been able to do anything with this. Using this method, it only allows me to dump 804mb of the disk. This is using rawdump 2.0, 2.1, and Friidump. I was able to force it to dump up to 1gb at one point, but I haven't been able to replicate that. The disk is single layer, too, so I figured it wouldn't be all that tricky. I've also tried through USB->IDE as well as on IDE with PIO set.
