I got a refusal (item not available) at 12:06. I tried ordering exactly at 12:00, filling out information as quickly as I can, probably finishing at 12:02, but the web site kept insisting my cart was empty, probably sold out already?

Is there really no better way of handling preordering than having people do a clicking competition within a 2 minute time window?

While I'm sorry you missed it, I don't think there is. What other way would be fair than first come, first serve? Especially when only 35 are available.

First come first serve is very fair. Open preorders for that, ship units as you can. I'm assuming Stone Age Gamer will get future units. I don't see the point of condensing it into two minutes making it a dexterity competition.

I guess that could work, but I don't know if they wanted to be backordered too much.

I think business wise it was probably better to handle it this way - if you look at what happened with 64drive, preorders stacked up so high that they could not be shipped out for months, and lots of people got upset with how long it took. At least by limiting the order amount to what you know you can currently deliver you avoid that type of situation

They're preorders without a specific release date, waiting a few months is reasonable. And a lot less upsetting than trying to participate in a clicking competition.

Well, the first 35 are waiting about a month before they get theirs. People in the hundreds could end up waiting a long time.

They still will, only difference is a deposit, and I'm sure the deposit isn't a huge deal for anyone with this amount of money to spend on their hobby.

What are my best chances for getting the PCB soonest (without having to participate in a 2 minute clicking contest), waiting for retrogate preorders to open again or ordering from gp2x?

Yeah this was a disaster I received 3 emails from StoneAge saying that my order was declined order numbers were #6870,#6873, #6874 oh well guess it's going to take about 2 months for the next pre-order from Stonage I'm sure there will be others selling but I prefer Stonage's craftsmenship which I can't do myself lol.

Sold out in 3 minutes or less that's when I recieved my emails. Crazy if you ask me.

That's odd. I thought my order took longer than that, but clearly I finished before you. I must have been on an adrenaline rush. I thought the paypal was loading super slow, but apparently I was just going super fast.

Incidentally I got the 16GB card too. Originally I wasn't because it's not like I need enough space for /every/ SNES game ever made at once. But it could be great for MSU1 games which I am hoping for more of, and I figured if I'm already shelling out $260, what's another $15?

Yeah i got the 16GB for the same reason. I'd love to see that Chrono Trigger demo finished, and it would also be cool if someone made an MSU-1 mod for Tales of Phantasia to have the PSX opening movie

I refreshed the page at exactly 0 seconds remaining and ordered right away, as fast as I could. I was actually working at the time, and I kind of dropped everything I was doing to order. I got an error at the very end, but after already getting a confirmation email. I guess I got lucky, especially ordering using my cell phone. My order number is 6875. I got the ultra purple universal shell with 16GB SDHC card.

Either that or the reason my cart said empty all the time was a server fault and not it being sold out (I tried both Opera and Internet Explorer to make sure it wasn't a browser fault). Regardless of what it is, the whole thing seems poorly setup. Regret waiting for this and not just ordering the PCB by itself :/
    What I did too.

I feel you ZellSF I've been waiting for this for months lerking on the Stonage website and the facebook I don't have a facebook account. And there's no telling when we are able to have another chance to pre-order seem like it will be awhile. atleast another 2-3 months.

For me, the scripts on the pre-order page were not working right in Firefox - fortunately I noticed before the pre-orders began an used IE to place my order, otherwise I probably would have missed out

Still wondering what my best option is:

1: wait for next retrogate preorder. If this ends up another clicking competition I *might* be able to get one if they have a competent web admin and I'm at my main computer with a better keyboard and mouse. Seriously, where does this ridiculous preorder model come from?
2: preorder from gp2x. I have no idea what waiting time I'm looking at as that depends on how evenly KRIKzz distributes carts (does he sell most of them at retrogate or ship equal amounts to other retailers) and how large their preorder list already is. If it means I'm sure to get it within half a year without having to win a contest to do so, that would be tempting.

I'm assuming Stone Age Gamer will be later than retrogate with the next preorder wave...

I wouldn't be suprised if SAG had one or two extra lying around for such an issue. Or, being that he does so much business with Krikkz, could possibly get one more on short notice from him.
