That is probably due to its unique SRAM format, as has kind of come up in this thread before. Likewise, Tales of Phantasia uses an unusual ROM format (Extended HiRom), and it can't be dumped with most devices either despite the lack of any special chips. I'm pretty sure that in both of these cases, the only reason they can't presently be dumped is the rarity of the formats and the fact that present copier firmware simply doesn't support them. There's no theoretical obstacle to copying them other than knowing about the formats and supporting them in the device.

SA-1 and S-DD1 carts are different animals entirely. Their ROM and SRAM formats tend to be pretty run-of-the-mill, but the circuitry of the carts is such that the special chip performs a handshake with the CIC in the SNES before the ROM (and probably the SRAM, at least based on my own inability to get good SRAM dumps) can even be read, so you would need a dumper with a CIC (or CIClone) chip in it or a plug-in copier that will use the SNES's CIC chip to deal with that. Apparently there is one copier that will work (SWC DX2), but it requires some complicated special measures, and still might not work with all carts.

I've heard speculation that most of the existing dumps of SA-1 and S-DD1 carts were performed by dumping the MaskROM directly, bypassing the cart's edge pins entirely.

I was thinking of this approach to dumping SRAM from the Dezaemon cart, I understand that you cannot remove it from the PCB due to it needing the battery, so I did a little reading on using my eprom programmer to read SRAM chips and got confused with certain pins changing when reading and writing, maybe I got it wrong I asked on NESDev and never got a reply so I have never followed through with it.

With most major bugs worked out I'm guessing there's not too much left to talk about until the next major update.

I should have an sd2snes in something like 2-3 weeks. Yay! (preordered only a month ago, seems like these aren´t quite as hard to get as I thought.)

Received mine, I immediately gutted an old Super Mario World case, and took off the sticker(it was in bad shape). I also purchased a "Norcent 2GB microSD Trio" on ebay, and chopped off the USB port, and slapped in a 8gb card. This makes it a slim sd card. Now I have an awesome SD2SNES cart!!! This thing is PFM, Thanks Krikzz, Stoneage Gamer, And Ikari

I wonder if RS-MMC cards work with SD2SNES. If so, I would think that would be a more elegant solution for an unmodded shell. I myself just learned about these things a week or so ago.

I'm having a problem with rendering ranger going to a black screen at random times on the sd2snes. It's exactly like the problem described in this thread http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...ing-Ranger-Intermittent-Black-Screen-Problems he was using a super everdrive though. his problem was due to playing on clone hardware. however, I am using a official snes mini. does anyone else have issues with this game?

I just started playing a little bit of SNES again in what little spare time I have for playing games. My sd2snes is an immaculate example of quality and engineering. I should try out some things and see if mine has the same issues that others have. I haven't updated mine yet. Everything I have played on it works fine still too.

I'm hoping the superfx support and game genie support will come out at some point still and it would be cool if it had built in cheat code searching but that might be asking a bit much. I used to enjoy searching for codes on my swc dx. It just makes it very convenient so that you don't need any print out or internet nearby to play around with the game.

As-is currently, I really like this sd2snes a lot (especially in my Stunt Race FX shell. It makes it very clean and professional in addition to the top notch high grade circuitry) and I'm glad ikari and KRIKzz came up with this as well as byuu and all of the people involved with the dsp chip research, donations, etc. It is really good stuff and some of the strongest video game preservation I have seen accomplished.

I like this idea, and I would think it could be done with a single text file that organizes codes by the game's checksum. Still, I think .cht files would be even easier to implement, though it would probably require that you have a .cht file with the appropriate filename for each game, which could be cumbersome for those who insist on having 2000 games on their SD card. You can download a bunch here, and the format includes descriptions of the individual cheats, so presumably you could turn on the ones you want before playing based on the descriptions.

Any news on FX Chip implemention seems like any news or advancement on this has completely stopped!?

I haven't heard any updates, but one thing to understand is this isn't Ikari_01's only gig. I believe he has full time as well. So I doubt he has given up or stopped, probably just works on it in his free time.

That's pretty much the gist of it. Of course I'm not dropping SuperFX but it does take its time. I don't expect it to be final before another couple of months.
There will be 1-2 more releases before SuperFX, introducing bug fixes/compatibility improvements/minor features.

Oh, by the way ikari_01, I brought up my DQ5 save files getting corrupted a few weeks back, right? Well, I found this the other day on a Japanese DQ6 info/walkthrough site (I'll provide a simple translation as well):
    http://dq6.d-navi.net/sfc/urawaza.html
This is Dragon Quest VI rather than V, but it's exactly the same behavior I experienced, and the save menus are so similar that I wouldn't doubt for a second they mostly copied the code from game to game. So I suspect it's some weird bug that may have nothing to do with SD2SNES.

If you´re really curious about updates, take a look at this twitter page: http://twitter.com/sd2snes

Looks like several bug fixes and such have already been made even after the last release (0.14)
I think they will package many of these together for 0.15 in the coming weeks, it should probably be during this month, unless I´m mistaken.

One thing I don´t understand is why seemingly so much work has been put to something as weird as satellaview games instead of concentrating on more important things... but maybe that was a lot easier to work on compared to something like superfx or sa-1. I don´t know.

Zephemeros: Be prepared to wait for a while. :)
I ordered (and paid) from different place but it was like between 7 and 8 weeks ago and the only thing that has actually happened is that my order has been changed from "backorder" to "preorder". Don´t know what that means, though. Just 3 weeks ago I still thought I was going to get it quite fast. Now I´m like Hamilton: http://www.thef1slate.com/news/120922
I´m just hoping I get it in time for the holidays and all is then great.

Or maybe it's because kiddo is submitting a lot of requests/information/assistance to ikari on Satellaview-related matters. And "more important" is strictly opinion; there are a hell of a lot more Satellaview games than there are even SA-1 games.
