Interesting, but looks like the earlier rendition of when Sony was going to release a branded Super Famicom unit, and not the CD-ROM based unit.

very nice picture. Considering the amount of legends surrounding the SNES-CD and its various stages of development though, I wouldn't be surprised if someone went through the trouble to make this unit. Something about it doesn't feel genuine... am I the only person getting this feeling? ;O

PS: where the hell is the CD-rom drive?:p

Ironically, I was thinking the same thing. Where DOES the CD pop out from? If you look though, you can see the volume control on the front has 'CD Monitor' written beneath it.

There's something definitely a bit fishy about it - although equally I wouldn't understand why someone would go to this much effort.

it looks like it was some other device. The cart-drive actually looks like a pop-top cassette drive for a video or audio player of sorts. The white text and suspicious lack of logos also make the unit feel hoaxy.

    1) sony and nintendo had logos for all the stages of PSX project - they are absent

    2) lack of CD drive - what SNES-CD? :p

    3) suspicious outline reminding a tape(audio cassette or VHS/beta) player with added text

    4) controller ports really dont "fit" the image properly

    5) at the back there's a cleverly coiled cable. This hides the fact that besides the Composite-Video (yellow) female RCA port, there's only ONE audio-out (Black) RCA and not two - which would be expected even for the SNES without a CD add-on - let alone with one.

Finally, I ve seen a fair amount of SNES-CD official designs and mockups, some of which I ve never encountered freely online, and this is definetely not one of them.

You can see some perf board through the holes on the back, but the strange thing it looks like it was just shoved in.

And Barcode, could you share those mockups? Pretty please with sugar on top?

I call shenanigans for a number of reasons. We are supposed to believe that they fabricated a plastic case for the system, but couldn't even get a PCB etched and instead used perfboard? And perfbord they didn't even screw down to boot. If someone really owned a Playstation proto, they'd be happy to put their name on it and provide information as well as internal pics.

Eject button would be for SFC carts. You technically arent suppose to just yank em out. Even the SNES in the US had the eject button.

And you're telling me that this trip is more important than flying back to the UK to post some pics on a message board?

Oh well, I guess if you do it first thing when you get back....
