I'm not so sure the market for them would be "huge". There is certainly a market of very dedicated fans that mostly consists of people that played the system back when it was current. Depending on the game it might be quite costly to produce again. And then you have licensing issues with some games. For example if Nintendo were to want to release actual Star Fox 2 SNES units they would have to either have new old stock of Super FX chips or manufacture new ones. Same thing with cartridge molds and pcbs. It's not that they couldn't afford to do those things but they aren't going to do it for a loss. Games without special hardware are much better possibilities. But they'd still just be essentially licensed reproductions. While on the outside they might look identical, on the inside they'd be current era technology.

It would be nice though if some of the games that are quite expensive now were produced again to meet the new demand. I kind of think most of that demand is people who played these older games as children and teens and now they are older and want to buy these games that weren't produced in enough numbers since the demand wasn't there back then.

That would have been my guess that they selected those based on regional sales figures. I imagine some of the other choices were also partly based on sales. It'd be interesting to know all the factors they considered for what games they decided to include. It's a shame that once again they aren't planning for any expansion capability. While it would raise the cost of the device it would be amazing if you could purchase new titles later on.

The game list for the Super Famicom Classic is slightly different:
    • Contra 3: The Alien Wars
    • Donkey Kong Country
    • F-Zero
    • Final Fantasy 6
    • Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
    • Legend of the Mystical Ninja
    • Kirby Super Star
    • Mega Man X
    • Panel de Pon
    • Secret of Mana
    • Star Fox
    • Star Fox 2
    • Super Soccer
    • Super Ghouls n Ghosts
    • Super Mario Kart
    • Super Mario RPG
    • Super Mario World
    • Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
    • Super Metroid
    • Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers
    • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
No Earthbound(Mother 2), which is a surprise tbh.

On another note, I wonder why they didnt put 30 games, like the NES classic? Unless of course it's because of file sizes.... but that wouldn't make sense considering the NES Classic had the storage space for like... the whole collection of NES games, right?

Game depth, plus I'm guessing including both star fox games probably drove up costs due to licensing issues with Argonaut.

Which Star Fox 2 rom are they using? Did somebody get it off Emu Paradise or are they using the rumored and elusive Complete Rom some dude claims he played?

It's almost certainly the completed rom. It's not just a rumor though, that "some dude" is Dylan Cuthbert himself, the lead programmer of SF2, and he's confirmed:
    1. That the English and Japanese releases were worked on simultaneously.
    2. That the game was cancelled, but allowed to be finished and go through full QA.

So Nintendo's been sitting on a finished copy for over 20 years. Supposedly, Nintendo let him play SF2 when he worked on Starfox Command for them.

Yeah, Dylan just confirmed on twitter that Star Fox 2 was 100% complete, mastered, and run through QA/certification. He also said the leaked ROM is probably only 90% complete and is missing a bunch of stuff from the final.

What's your point about piracy? You kind of put that out there about the past but I don't see what you mean about the present.

And ofcourse it has HDMI, it's a SoC modern device like the NES Classic or Raspberry Pi.

Allowing for expansion of the Rom list may give us exploits allowing users to run other games without paying or use the machine in ways ninty may not be happy of.

Concerning hdmi I should have been more specific, iirc the nes mini didn't display 1080p video but just interlaced?

If one can manage to get a NES mini, it's already possible to hack it and install any NES roms. You can even install retroarch on it and play SNES/Genesis/WhatNot...

At this point, I think they know those kind of consoles will be hacked anyways, but they don't care too much because emulation is already a thing. They make their money from the hardware sales, from the people that want the hardware... Maybe they'll have a surprise copy protection for SF2 though, but I for one expect the Super NES classic to get hacked pretty fast.

Well quick interview with Argonaut founder said he had no ability or right to stop Nintendo from ever rereleasing Star Fox 1 and 2 said they owned patented on chip. Guess his only beef was royalty. So far Nintendo's response on not rereleasing star fox or other fx chip games on virtual console is difficulty emulating it. Dylan did do a demo where his team had ported the first star fox to 3ds with 3d depth but nintendo told him they weren't interested and to port star fox 64 instead.

We haven't seen the backside of this thing yet, to confirm there's a micro-USB port?

Preordered within an hour or two in Sweden. Got a mail a few hours later "Sorry, not enough units shipped. You're refunded". None left anywhere to preorder.

What the shit Nintendo? I don't get this.

Supposedly they would stock more of these puppies than the NES version, but I've been hearing loads of the above stories locally as well. A local store told me they expected about 6 or 7 to come in, but probably they would get a second batch as well of the same amount. Don't know how accurate this information is though, all we can do is wait and see.

Honestly, I think this is too expensive. $20 more for 9 less games is absurd.

Plus they really really REALLY need to start focusing on VC news for Switch soon. Not messing around with closed $80 plug-n-plays made in pitiful numbers.
