I never started a community dump for it or anything. In a private deal someone offered me $700 for a dump which I accepted at the time. Today they told me they can't do it, so I released it for free, which I intended for a while now if the deal fell through.

And I can't really comment on the other remark, as I don't know what you're talking about.

Either way I never claimed I'm Santa Claus.

I've known about the other copies for a while now, so not really.

(In fact someone was taunting me about them every now and then. Which I couldn't care less about.)

Try holding R when you press Start in-game - eight menu pages of debugging/testing functions, many with submenus, etc.

One of the unfinished levels will crash (unfinished level), bypassed it by skipping to the next one.

HOLY SHIT, now that's a debug menu! Thanks for the heads up!

By the way, I've found that if you press SELECT at the start screen, you can get a (smaller) debug menu too!

Crash is awesome and all, but I'm too busy being distracted by the GameCom Emulator. Shame it isn't directly cartridge compatible, though it's great that such a thing could now be potentially be reverse-engineered into a stable, high-speed version.

I want to play Resident Evil 2 in low-res, dangnambit!

That's awesome! I've always loved the Crash Bandicoot games (the ones Naughty Dog developed anyway). I wish I had a way to play this on the original hardware (or even a PS2).

Great. Now I'm really pissed. I actually paid a shitload of cash to the original dumper of this "bonus" release years ago (when he tried to sell it here) and got a promise that it has not been shared since and will remain private forever. Tried to talk to drx when he uploaded several screenshots of it, but he denied it's the same file after I gave him checksums of mine. And what is worse, he even edited/censored some of his screenshots which showed characters that only exist in the German version after I talked to him. Today I confirmed it's the very same file including checksums, file creation date, and file name.
Gotta love being lied to. What a huge disappointment.

Did you buy it from DRX? Or did he just happen to have the same game?

You can't blame him unless he sold it to you...

No, I didn't buy it from drx. However, there is no doubt drx got it from the person I bought it from. And drx was well aware of this and still didn't care after I explained him everything last year. He even tried to fool me by forging proof, what the hell?

I knew the original source for about 8 years now and he is the one who originally dumped it. But contacting him has been difficult since I asked him what's going on with drx and his screenshots. Suspicious... Even though the original source (who is also a member here at ASSEMblergames) is probably the true person to blame, I won't name him here, because that would get him into potentional trouble. Check your PMs...

Sounds like you have misplaced your anger. One bought he can do whatever he likes with the data.

Well, even if drx hadnt made this available, the other guy would have. Not just that, but the other guy was trying to get money for it.

Anyway, yeah, it sucks what happened to you... I'd be pretty pissed off if something like this happened to me.

Is it because you have doubts it's not just the same build but even the very same file? Don't forget the file creation date proves it down to the seconds.
Basically you're saying it's perfectly fine how drx lied to me, denied everything, forged proof etc. I can't believe what's happening here... Let me ask you, why would anyone do something like that if he didn't recognize I was right?

Also how do you know he actually bought it? Maybe he got it for free after the original source got the money he was in need of? I don't say it necessarily has to be that way, but it's the same kind of a wild guess.

Anyway, what has been done cannot be made undone. With my post here I just wanted to point out the issue to anyone who plans to spend money for something to be kept private. Be careful and don't believe everything they say or you may get ripped off just like me...

Ah, this is not about Crash Bandicoot, but the "bonus" release. That one was not going to be made available.
    And thanks for understanding!

I don't think drx would try to purposely deceive you. It would be really out of character for him.

You also have to expect that thing like this can happen when you only buy the rom and not the physical media that it's on. (still can happen, but less likely)

I think people forget that betas are grey market material and don't "belong" to them in any way.

    Sucks you got burned.

Can we please have the name of the original seller Denryu?

People have been banned for this in the past and it would be good to have some consistency for a change on this forum!

But what about the other things said by Denryu. I think the lying to him, denying everything, forged proof etc if true.

I think people don't care here anymore about what is the right or wrong thing as long as they get the game/a release. It is easy to say something like sucks you got burned, but then thank you to the person who released it, ignoring the wrongs that might be apart of it.

I think people care little for others with this sort of thing, and if maybe they was given something for nothing then they care even less.
