Sonic 4 was a step in the right direction I thought. Don't have the console version of it but I did pick up the iPhone version and I was pretty impressed with it when I played through it. I just wish Sega would go back to using the classic Genesis Sonic full time. I don't know why I don't like the new Sonic these days I thought he worked well on Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on the DC but now I've completely changed my mind.
That's like 1200 yen here ($14?). Not to be a cheap fuck, but if I'm only going to play it once, then it's kinda pricey. I'll try the demo out.
I believe they're having a special on XBL right now. Most Sonic titles, and some other Sega stuff, is 50% off.
exactly. I'm not saying it's the Sonic game you wanted, I m just saying it's a pretty fun game on its own. Funky physics or not, we ve all played worse and enjoyed every bit of the crap, so why the elitist attitude? you like platformers?well this is one of the better ones released last year.
"This looks like the one!" "Got my money placed on it now!" "They finally got it right" You all said that for any of the previous ones and you know it =p As far as the series evolving properly, I always thought the Advance games were fair enough. No other Sonic games after Sonic & Knuckles were that great. Then again, Advance 2 kinda introduced the "hold right" formula that plagues all Sonic games now, and Advance 3 wasn't all that great...come to think of it I only really like the first one.
In fairness though, it's not supposed to be a different platform game with a different character, it's supposed to be a Sonic game. I actually thought it was a decent game on it's own merits, but being that it's supposed to be a Sonic game, I feel the critisism of the gameplay (the most important part of a game, right?) is more than justified. As I said, people would rightly critisise Nintendo if the New Super Mario Brothers games played differently to the old Mario games.
You have a point but to be honest the original Mario with it's floating jumps is bloody awful IMO yet everyone loves it. The 2nd game wasn't even really Mario but again everyone loves it. Paper Mario on the Wii bored the shit out of me, it really did. I had to force myself to complete it. I'm not trying to defend the Sonic games of late. Ever since that Fucking awful BGM used in Sonic Adventure 2 I've been right off the whole series. I did sort of enjoy Unleashed, well the none werewolf sections but Black Knight just threw the series back in to the shit heap. I do honestly think this new game or at least it's 2D sections have got it right. You can see just be watching the videos that it plays like a classic Sonic. No other Sonic since the 16bit games looked like it played right, never mind actually played right. I wait in hope that this will be a good game.
Have you ever heard me talk? I think I've stated on many occasions it might be the worst music on the planet (game or not). It's shit cock rock, through and through.
That SA2 J-rock stuff is like a cheap handbag. It sounds ridiculous. Even if the music was any good, the singer/lyrics/bad instruments etc make it sound so amateur and off subject.
You dont sell classic sonic without the correct physics... S4 wasnt meant to be a remake, a reboot or anything like, just a damn classic style sonic game, they couldnt even take Sonic 2 and make it HD. You know why the physics are bad? because the overall quality of every sonic game from 1998 to date has been either shit grade or polished turd. What Sega has been doing with the franchise its the equivalent of Valve releasing HL2 without havok or the gravity gun, and portal2 being merely portal1 with more maps. Those games were huge upgrades from the originals, bigger and much better built, while sonic games of today cant even live to the standards of the first 5. Put simply: Sonic used to be a flagship game, it represented the company behind it, but today with Sega being reduced to an average publisher sonic games are filler meant for little kids. I ain't gonna let it get to me, I'm just gonna creep Down in Pumpkin Hill, I gots to find my lost piece I know that it's here, I can sense it in my feet The great emerald's power allows me to feel I can't see a thing, but it's around somewhere I'm gonna hold my head 'cause I have no fear This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory A ghost tried to approach me and he got leery I ask him a question and he vanished in a second I'm walking through valleys, cryin' pumpkins in the alley Didn't seem happy, but they sure tried to get me Had to back 'em up with the fist metal crack 'em I'm hearin' someone sayin' don't be chicken, don't be scared It had to be the wind, 'cause nobody wasn't there I search and I search as I climbed up the wall And then I started to fly, I went in deeper Are your ears bleeding? dude.........? Is he dead?
If you want to see a good recent Mario game, try Super Mario Galaxy 2. That game is amazing. Not terribly hard, but really fun, extremely pretty graphics, orchestral soundtrack, etc. etc. Probably my favorite Mario game, actually. And yeah, the music in SA2 is horrible. There are a few tracks where people aren't singing that are bearable, but the Knuckles rap songs and the crappy intro track... AHHHHHH!!! The worst part is that even though they're awful, they get stuck in your head for days. Not every song is excruciating, but man... if you like that Pumpkin Hill song, I fear for your soul. A real shame too. If it wasn't for the terrible music and the long, boring emerald-finding levels, SA2 would've been great. As someone said earlier in the thread, it was a step in the right direction. Too bad every game since has been a step backwards (although I haven't played Colors so don't hold me to that).
Yeah the BGM was bearable when I was 13, after all the radio at the time was full of shit-grade eminem imitators anyway, so bad hiphop was a dime a dozen. But today, the music of pumpkin hill even without the lyrics is awful, just awful. It would be great to have a new SA that was made of just the Sonic/Shadow type of levels, beats the 2D+scripted 3D of Colors if you ask me.
The Sonic/Shadow levels in SA2 were great: they actually felt more polished and the physics were more solid than any 3D Sonic game after that. I just don't get how they fucked up the mechanics so bad in every 3D Sonic after SA2. And the music was good too...well, anything without singing or rapping.
Very excited for this. I like the idea of old sonic being strictly side scrolling and modern using the unleashed style of gameplay. The old sonic looks so awesome and I'm very excited for this. Sonic was the first game I ever played.
