Herman, will you just drop all of this conspiracy price fixing BS already. We've heard it all before and it's getting quite old already.
Noone forces YOU to read my posts. Just ignore them if my observations are unsettling to you. Those who wish to engage in a critical discussion about these auctions please feel free. Its just that simple. Btw, I do smell price fixing between the seller, buyer, and the Press for sensationalizing this. God forbid anyone calling them out on another publicity stunt *sigh*
It's worse than you think. Checking the bidding history, I see seventeen bidders who pushed the price up that high. Clearly they were all conspiring together, along with the buyer, led by the shadowy cabal who run "Gamesniped". Their goal: well, I haven't figured that out precisely, but it must be something really good to entice all 20+ people involved into cooperating. Right?
If you want to have a conspiracy theory, do the research. That will cut back on the backlash. Its what good journalists do. Sure, your limited by the human condition, but don't say something without going through the effort of finding the answer, right or wrong. And yes, Ebay makes that hard nowadays
Look, I have a bridge to sell you. IT'S RARE h: But first, lemme call up my buddies at the news station to spread the word. WE'RE GONNA BE RICH AND FAMOUS, YEEEEEHAAAW !!! Its OBVIOUS they're conspiring and the media does its job to spread the ignorance around - making it out like its "official". Today's gamers reading that shit become brainwashed into thinking these games are truly "Holy grails" because the media told them so without proper investigation. Its the oldest trick in the book !
Its not obvious though, there is no proof behind it. Find the proof, and people will either believe it or not. You have a guess right now, its time to turn it into something more substantial.
Well no money is coming out of my pocket for Scully and Mulder to prove the inevitable. That's just a waste of funds as far as i'm concerned. I believe in karma. People will eventually catch on to this if they haven't already.
Err, what are you on?! No matter whether a sale is publicized or not, if people want to bid on it, they'll bid on it. What makes someone keep bidding? That they've been told it's a rare item? NO. There's only one thing that makes them keep bidding - THEY WANT THE ITEM and feel that IT'S WORTH THE MONEY. Likewise, you could ask a million dollars for a game, but you'll only sell it if someone feels it is worth that price. People drove those bids up because they wanted the game. You can't prove otherwise.
The funniest thing about it is I bet the person who initially spotted it creamed themselves and hatched a cunning plan to obtain the item for the minimum price. They probably lurked and hovered over the "BID NOW" button for the last few seconds only to find it jumping up in leaps and bounds. Tears of frustration ensues and lost in the moment he stabs at the buttons and doesn't realise he's just committed to buying a shitty game* (sorry, I can't get excited about it) for $13k. Incidentally, does anyone know whether his wife walked out on him yet? "Darling, good news I won and it only cost our child's place at college....." SLAM! (*Yeah, I know I can be a hypocrite as I have spent stupid money on my own particular stupid obsession lol)
I will say that with prices getting as high as this I fully expect to see more forgeries. It is just way too easy to forge something like this.
I don't think this is a conspiracy, I just think that someone who has lots of money decided to buy this game.
