Hope everyone's ok! It was insane, just saw a witness video on YouTube's Citizen Tube channel.

It really was crazy from what I've seen. Glad everyone from here's OK at least, hopefully your friends/families are too.

Wow, I just woke up like an hour or so ago to find out this has happened.

I seriously hope our JP members are okay, seems that a lot are.

What is the news on the nuclear facility? I highly doubt the news would be reporting a meltdown right away if it is a possibility, to reduce panic.

I just heard on NPR that they closed down one of the nuclear plants due to a cooling system failure of some sort and evacuated the vicinity. Well I'm not 100% sure if it's truly serious as they are designed to withstand such quakes.

The US air force transports cooling liquid to Fukushima. It seems to be quite serious and I'm afraid what there might be still ahead of us and the people in Japan.

Japan's nuclear power plants are designed to withstand quakes of up to 8.0 on the richterscale. This one was 8.9 which is twice as intense as a 8.0.

They are deciding whether or not to release some radioactive steam from one of the reactors, to ease pressure, apparently.

NNot even Gundams can save Japan. We're DOOOOOoooooommmed!! Edit - From what I heard it's a fake.

I really hope they don't have to release that radioactive steam though at the nuclear plant.

Some radiation in the air might be better than a cracked tank letting out all the radiation into the air...

True, but lets hope for the best and have NO radiation in the air.

When Three Mile Island had it's partial meltdown the only release to the environment was through steam and while it wasn't devastating, there definitely was some damage done by this.

9/11. You couldn't even begin to try to lead a normal life until what, a month or three later? The news refused to talk about anything but and about the only place that was normal was Cartoon Network.

About 98% of the damage was because of the country flipping out as opposed to anything the reactor did directly though. Judging from what I've read about this reactor they're just being engineers announcing possibilities so that nobody can say they were lying through their teeth to keep the public from freaking out.

Then again I think the tsunami that was on fire would make them freak out enough.

    This is really terrible!

I hope that the can fix the reactors. There is little news about it but i think the situation is really critical!

    Oh shit:
    http://www.accuweather.com/US/CA/Napa/94558/watches-warnings.asp?partner=forecastfox

As I posted earlier this was a tsunami WATCH and now its a WARNING. We didn't even get one of these back when Indonesia had their earthquake.

As I said earlier its extremely unlikely I will be affected but anyone down in San Francisco, Bodega Bay, LAX or other low lying areas could be rather easily. I'm half tempted to make a trip to the Marin headlands to watch it but that'd be one of the stupidest things a person can do, even though the headlands are quite a ways above sea level.

    And now this:
