It's pretty much there own thing. I guess since early 2000's they've just put too much work in it to restart everything again. UE3 would be cool though.

Dude UT2 was released in 2003, how could they work on that 3 years before?

You're talking about the 2001 build which used the original UT engine, and they already said this new DNF has nothing to do with that other one.

It's 90% likely to be unreal3 engine. Its gonna have DX10.1 support, and Doom3 just doesn't have that capability yet. D3 is older, but U3 is newer. They've done this so many times to the game.

Oh, and the 2001 build was leaked, I believe. Someone offered me a copy. Anyway, IIRC, they hired some people back in 2006 who had experience with unrealEd.

Really? where did you heard that?

Anyway, it looks too blocky (like Doom3 btw) to be using the UT3 engine.

Never heard anything about a leak, and since the E3 2001 version is one the most sought after betas out there, that copy you're talking about must be a hoax...

Why blame it on the engine? Its probably the game itself that looks blocky.

I really don't see how you can "see" that much detail in the models when there is maybe half a second of actual gameplay footage. The rest are likely cinematics.

Just check the DNF picture at the beggining of the thread, then check this one of Doom3.

Dont you see the blockyness around duke's shoulders?

Now take a look at Unreal 3:

Can you see the difference now?

Granted, the real Unreal 3 doesn't seem to look that good (Well, at least from my perspective).

I'm sure I made that shit up, of course.

Seriously. It's basically there own thing. It doesn't look super blocky or ugly to me, it looks like people might actually be able to play it on there computers.

I bet it will be console bound. That was there original plan. Achievements in Duke Nukem would be awesome. Duke 3D is suppose to go to Arcade some day, they just need the OK from MS.

Yes, 'cause we all know that a characters poly count is 100% the fault of the engine, and not the blokes in charge of model making

Thanks for saying what I couldn't.

Even if DNF used the Doom 3 engine (which we've concluded it doesn't), there is no way you'd be able to tell from that unbelievably short teaser. Just because you see something and think "hey that's [engine]!" doesn't make it so.

Now, if the teaser had shiny effects on everything, including things that don't need shiny (shiny dirt or whatever), then I'd be more inclined to agree with you.

You said the 2001 build used the UT2 engine, which was released 2 years latter, so I'm pretty sure you did makethat shit up...

I never said this new DNF couldnt be using the original 2001 engine, just that it looked like it used the id tech 4 engine.

I did? I haven't been talking about the 2001 build at all. I've been talking about what is there now.

which is why I think this game will fail. People have too high expectations for something that hasn't really been in development for 10 straight years.
