Did you know that if two collapsed stars meet, they create a gamma burst. Imagine our sun. Now imagine ten suns in our sky. Now twenty. Amazing, yes? Now imagine one Billion, Billion stars. This is a quintillion. Yes, 1 billion billions. When two collapsed stars meet, we get the energy of one quintillion stars. Exploding. All at once. The force is so great that even if it were 1000 light years away, it would destroy the earth. That's right. Even if the damn thing explodes 5,865,696,000,000,000 miles away. We're dead. Dead meat. How far is this? If you left in the space shuttle, it would take you THIRTY SEVEN MILLION YEARS to travel to the site. So think about it. No matter what man has done in the mere 10,000 years we've been writing shit down, we're probably already dead and we don't know it. There's one gamma burst exposion EACH DAY in the universe. So enjoy life to the most, for we are but a brief twinkle in the sky.
I think it puts a positive twist on things: it justifies smoking, drinking heavily, eating crap and getting high. Live for now!
That's why the tendency of mankind to think of itself as 'THE center of universe' and all things related always made me laugh.
If we all die tomorrow and there is something beyond this world I say we form some sort of ASSEMblergames-AfterLife group where we can dedicate our time to recreating classic games and collections .
Yeah, let's start now by memorizing ROMs. We can start with simple things, like Bomb Jack or Space Invaders and then progress to things like Sonic and Mario. (think of it, you could get a mention in the guiness book of records: "the man who memorized SMB1")
http://www.astrobio.net/news/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1932&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0 Bit reactionary. It would have to be a very close (in universe terms) blast for it to wipe out mankind and the chance of that happening in our galaxy (i.e. close enough for it to affect us) is 0.15%. Then add in the fact that Gamma Ray Bursts are focused on one plane (non-radial) and we'd have to be directly in the path of the focused blast for it to hit us and the odds become ridiculously low.
Let's see... going through the motions... the futility of mankind... we need to get you a vacation
If you really want to get into religion..lol No, I dont think it is. Im not of the mindset that God has control over everything.
Even if the world did go out, why worry. It's unstoppable, i find it comforting that if i go everything stops, no thinking, no worrying, no pain, time stops forever. Eventually you reduce to atoms, floating round in space forever. Some people can't bear the thought of not existing so they use religon as a tool to help make sense of the unknown, if theres a second life then it's not as scary if you die, at some point everyone didn't exist so what's so scary about not existing again Just enjoy life while you have it.
Yes yes it is. For all you Godless Heathens (And use the term in a playful and friendly manor) Think about this. Why is it that more Christians are put to death over what they belive in in other countries than any other on Earth? Why is it when ever we want to post something Chrsitian in public it's seperation of Church and state yet if somebody who is Muslim, Pagan, or something else wants to post something of theirs in public it's ok? Why are people getting so worked up over a Jewish guy that died for our sins? Chew on that for a bit.
