The 3DS isnt very good quality-wise either. Let them fix the whole "bottom screen makes scratches in top screen" problem for example and release a better model at a better pricepoint.
Conversely a good chunk of DS games run at 60 fps ( while most N64 ones run at around 24/20 fps ) and bigger "cartridge" ( well they aren't really cartridge ) capacity is advantage DS have over N64. I always though of the DS as a mix between N64 and PS1 ( design wise, not power wise ). Ratio between the two version favor Wii by 3:1 While Wii killer app undeniably was ( is? ) Wii Sports, the way the system initially enter the houses ( to spread the virus through Wii Sports ) was on behalf of TP. Overall TP was one of the best selling Zelda game ever. Luigi Mansion sales pale in comparison. BTW PSP sells higher than 3DS in Japan, not in the western markets.
Thanks captain obvious, but I was comparing hardware 3D rendering capabilities. Also, keep in mind how primitive N64 tools were and the system's bottlenecks. However you cut it though, you can't just straightly port N64 games to the DS, that's a false statement.
oh my god the 3ds can't support the flash !!! http://www.vg247.com/2011/06/02/japanese-3ds-eshop-line-up-confirmed-no-flash-support-for-browser/
The launch line-up for 3DS Ware is not very good. Sure the GB line up is pretty good (I saw an auction on yahoo for phantasm that was well above 4,000 Yen for a loose cart) but 3DSware games are bad and the two 3D remakes are of games that will get old quickly.
Flash support means playing online games or watching videos you didn't pay for. Devices like the iphone and the 3DS are intended to be vending machines for content. You purchase and use/repeat. Another theory is that the nintendo devs just programmed a very quick and poor browser, but flash support can't be that hard to implement right?
The browser isn't actually by Nintendo, it uses Access's Netfront, the same as the PS3. However, Flash support would require paying a licence to Adobe, something I suspect Nintendo didn't want to pay. However, they did eventually add Flash to the Wii browser, so lets wait and see. If I'm honest, I'm only interested in Flash support because of YouTube.
Sounds more probable they didn't want to pay the licence. After E3 and the unveiling of sony's ngp/vita, I think nintendo will have to step up their internet game with the 3ds. NGP will probably have a fully featured browser right out of the gate. Now if someone can jailbreak the 3DS, you'd probably get a nice youtube app ;-)
wow, konami totally shitted on the MGS3 3DS port today. It looks less like the nakid snake demo and more a ported ps2 game and now MGS3 is getting a HD PS360 release and hints of a PSVita/NGP release as well.
Link to such news? It's seemingly more and more like Nintendo won't be able to count on being the default winner of the handheld market anymore. Guess it's a good thing they retired the Gameboy name so it went out on top.
Fuck... The only point of that browser was youtube in 3D. God damn it, this always happens when I adopt early. This being said, I did get the Wii at launch, and it eventually got flash and (some) decent games - and I never had a gamecube. So this might get better, be it with an update or something under Nintendo's sleeve. Otherwise, let's hope something like the Homebrew Channel comes out soonish so I have my own portable 3D-Enabled Emulation Station.
Not sure which part you want a link to so I will do all 3 parts. 1. MGS3DS http://www.andriasang.com/e/galleries/2011/06/03/mgs_3d_screens/ 2. MGS HD http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/e3_2011/jp/hd_mgs.html 3. MGS HD on Vita (Transfaring stage 2 says PS2 games to PS3/NGP and the MGS 2/3 collection in japan has the logo on the box but... MGS 2/3 in japan does not include peace walker in the collection like the USA version. Lastly the logo is also on the box for Zone of Enders HD collection. So what game is there on the NGP for being able to transfer your save and continue your progress on? ;-) http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/e3_2011/jp/transfarring.html http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/e3_2011/jp/hd_mgs.html http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/e3_2011/jp/hd_zoe.html
I agree with you, they definitely shit on the MGS3 3DS port with this news. A friend of mine was waiting on the 3DS MGS3 port to play it again, but now he probably will wait for the 360 HD remake instead and only pickup the 3DS version when discounted.
So HD = upscaled version of a PS2 game? Man, how I've hated this HD buzzword ever since it started really infesting the world sometime in the middle of last decade.
Not upscaled. Basically they are remaking/porting the game to modern hardware and it will run in a HD resolution (atleast 720p, maybe 1080p) and all the models and textures and such will get upgrades bringing it up to modern standards atleast somewhat. So it's more than just shitty upscaling with some crappy filters applied.
Are they actually going to remake it? or just bump the res like emulators do? Mind that remaking from an old console means increasing the poly count on characters, redo the levels, take advantage of new technologies like physics, basically a complete overhaul. Eg: HLsource its just a port of HL1 to source, while Black Mesa Source its a full remake. Back to MGS, what I read is that they are porting the games in HD, nothing more.
