The 3DS: groundbreaking, innovative glasses-free 3D technology (well, at least sort of)....used to play ROMs of 17-year-old Game Boy games since there are only a couple of actual 3DS games worth playing!
What's that got to do with anything? Yeah, sure, in six months there are probably more games worth playing, or at least for Nintendo's sake there better be, but RIGHT NOW the situation is exactly as absurd as I said.
Personally, I enjoy Dead or Alive Dimensions, SSFIV: 3D Edition, Dream Trigger 3D, Pilotwings Resort, and Steel Diver. So... no, I don't find the situation all that absurd since that's more than I could have said for the Xbox360 or the PS3 after they had been out for 3 months. Edit: Or even the DS for that matter. It's like with the 3DS launch suddenly everyone magically forgot what system launches were like.
a doom remake on the 3ds would prove tempting. but i think this time ninty has lost me both in portable and console....
Good for you! I greatly enjoyed BlazBlue for it. I don't think that Mario Kart is going to move many units alone. It's a very strong series that sells well to people who already have the platform, but I don't think it's necessarily a handheld system seller. Here in Japan, real system sellers are: Mario platformers Dragon Quest Monster Hunter Pokemon and maybe Final Fantay (is it still?) (maybe I'm missing some... I've been up a looooooong time) I really do want the 3DS to succeed. I'm quite fond of it, but lack of titles that appeal to me and the price of software in Japan (US$66.93 each on average) is just a show stopper for me.
I guess the problem is that there was no real big name available at launch unlike the past two Nintendo systems (Mario 64 DS and Twilight Princess). People aren't gonna be that excited about a halfassed Pilotwings game.
I suppose. But I'd rather have a new game than a port at launch personally. Though Nintendo has been launching handheld systems with ports since what? The GBC? Granted, I will be making the walk of shame to pick up OoT on Sunday...
I agree about ports vs. new games, but Mario 64 was still a game many people were interested in getting, despite it being a port. OoT looks great from the screenshots, exactly what a remake should look like.
Some guy at Gamestop told me they're probably going to run out of copies of OoT really fast, because they're probably not going to get restocked very soon. That sounds like bullshit to me. Actually, it sounds like a lame marketing ploy (this was the guy behind the counter). 3DS is selling like shit. Why would OoT sell out?
Well...it's Gamestop, and their whole mission is to get as many pre-orders as possible, that's why they always go on about games selling out on launch day.
Didn't Nintendo say they were short shipping OoT intentionally because they shipped to many of the last two Zelda games and they were quicky discounted.... And people still didn't want them
This. la-li-lu-le-lo. which Gamestop do you go to? If it's the one in Madison they probably aren't BSing you, though the other ones are pretty retarded.
^^ Exactly this, and BlazBlue, and Ridge Racer....and now OoT. The system is selling slowly because it's $250, not because of a dearth of software relative to other systems that were 3 months into their lifecycle. It launched for $100 more than the original DS, and there hasn't been a ton of inflation since 2004.
