Well I just got through the first two hours (and change) of the game and it killed my 60gb fat PS3 stone dead. Though I was mighty impressed with the introduction and game play, I'd suggest this isn't a game that should be used on a re-flowed console as it'll just kill it again in double time. I've never seen a game stress the PS3 as much as this one does. The frame rate in some parts is terrible, and I mean AWFUL as they've added in a little too much into some of the environments. They've done all they can to cover the sporadic frame rate with motion blur and other assorted effects so it's not too bad on the eyes. I could hear my PS3 creaking under the strain, kinda like watching a mid range gaming PC trying to play Crysis 3 on Ultra - almost a slide show in some parts. I must say though, I was really starting to get into it. Very well executed story so far as I've seen.
Indeed, prices in South America are always irrational... Most of the time I end up having to buy online and hope for the best (ie. item being well packed, package not getting lost / stolen, customs not charging additional, etc). Even with customs costs, it's always cheaper to buy it online, than go to a local retail and buy it there. Unfortunately there's many people with lots of money that don't care paying the overpriced local shops, and that's why this shit remains...
Believe it or not that is changing, at least for PS3 games. As the market is flooded with official copies, prices are really lower than they used to. I can buy the regular edition of The Last of Us for cheaper prices than in USA. The problem is that the local version, made by Sony DADC Brazil is crap. Cheaper blu-ray case, cheaper cover art, not covering the whole case and with no inside art (yep, it's all white), cheaper disc print... Most people accept that kind of treatment, not me. I'll probably have to import the regular version if i can't get the survival edition for a reasonable price.
Although Argentina's situation is not even close, we had (and still have?) a pretty similar situation with Audio CDs. I've seen many cases where the US/EU version of an Audio CD comes with a booklet with lyrics/pics, and the local (Argentina) version just has the cover, without the booklet... and they still charge similar to the US price... bastards...
Got a PS3 for this game and absolutely love it!! Been awhile since i've been into a new game this much! Definitely recommend it
Indeed it's a good game. Right now I am on my second playthrough of Survival + and have everything maxed out. Gotta love Game Genie.
I'm only one here who haven't played The Last of Us yet ? I need to find a good week without anything being interrupt from outside world. Sigh.. I wish I was a child again.
Yeah definitely an awesome game! highly recommend! this game reminds me of Clock Tower SNES/SFC Gameplay with it's realistic physics controls & environment
I haven't even bought it yet. It's depressing how difficult is to find an USA copy around here, with the market flooded with the cheap and crappy brazilian version. My patience will be rewarded though.
Uncharted didn't even "impress me much" (somebody get it). Well I only ever played Uncharted 2. So you come up to some barren, run-down looking place, the game looks good, you do some interesting climbing and parkour-esque stuff, then enemies come along and it's just cover, shoot, cover, run to next cover. Then once you're out of combat it's like this, "Mr X just went over there, let's go there". So you zipline somewhere, fight more enemies, then find the NEXT building to go to. Good graphics don't make a good game, Uncharted is an AVERAGE GAME, borrowing heavily from other games, not being unique, just eye-candy, very repetitive. So yeh... I loved Crash Bandicoot but really RARE who made games from the N64 are HANDS DOWN undeniably, irrefutably the greatest game developers of all time. Donkey Kong, Banjo Kazooie, Killer Instint Gold, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, CONKERS BAD FUR DAY!!! As for current developers I'd say Santa Monica, whoever makes god of war. those games are epic, GOW3 blew me away, far more epic and large-scale than anything naughty dog have done. I guess that's my opinion but my strong opinion. Tell me another game developer that has had more humour, a better immersive game than Rare... it's not naughty dog. all aboard the hype train, this is why I've ignored last of us reviews like the plague.
I just finished The Last of Us, I must admit I am really impressed. Set a side the beautifull graphics and good gameplay, the story as a whole is just amazing and it's the first time I actually had ethical issues (at the end) playing a game/story. Quite the emotional rollercoaster storywise, this is why I think this game is a masterpiece compared to Uncharted.
I Just beat the game too. WHEW that last Segment I think it can best be summed up with Begin Spoiler I think the last of us is more about Joel's redemption after losing his daughter than it is anything else and in finding Ellie he got to be he Father he never had the chance to be with Sarah. When he saves her at the end You just know he's thinking even though he never says it. I lost one daughter before but not again end spoiler
Maybe I'm just weird, but I thought Bioshock Infinite lived up to the hype. It's been the first game I couldn't put down (until I had to return it) since Arkham City (and that was caused by my Batman fixation). Was it really "the best game of the generation"? Maybe not, but it was certainly up there. And it didn't have zombies I hate conspiracy theory crap. First off, the video doesn't say what that documentary's about, or where in Microsoft that $750k came from (for a multi billion dollar company, that makes more than the GDP of some countries in our sleep, that's pretty much nothing, hell a million dollar ad campaign for a game isn't even massive (Sony probably spent far more than that on The Last of Us ads)). Secondly, if the guy got banned for saying Polygon was bought out to give a mediocre review to a competing game, I'm not sure what's the problem there. Finally, if you take out Japan's absolute hatred/apathy for the 360 (and the Original Xbox, as a matter of fact), the 360 well outsold the PS3 in the US, by almost 20 million units, according to VGchartz. Just saying. That's what always irks me about Sony, other than God of War (and to a lesser extent Ratchet & Clank), Sony hasn't kept a consistent mascot or flagship series from generation to generation. After the PS1 era, they sold off Spyro (who then came back with the Skylanders toys, surprise surprise) and Crash. After the PS2 Jak and Daxter haven't had a main series game come out, and Ratchet & Clank haven't had a AAA game for the most part. Nintendo makes their money from their exclusive franchises, which ensure that no matter how bad a system flops, it'll still sell because nobody else has Mario and co. I still haven't either. My list of games to finish/play is way too long to buy it. I just wish Rare could make a good game again. Though KI3 is the only Xbone title I'm really looking forward to.
Yes! What a freakin' awesome game! Last of Us took everything I ever thought died out in gaming years ago and put it right back in my hands! Haven't been this 'into' a game since Link to the Past!! BUT! I agree with Xeauron, this game stresses my PS3 to the limits. I can't play on hot days as my PS3 has a tendency to shut itself off (did that a lot with Uncharted, Crysis, pretty much anything that looks prety... except Vanquish for some reason... ) but I've played/had the game running for over 6 hours on a nice cool night with no problems. Would also not recommend a reflow for this one, as it'll easily suck you in to an extended session. But, DEFINITELY WORTH getting a PS3 if you haven't yet, not to mention games like the Uncharted series, Vanquish, and Heavy Rain Henry's Tale FTW!
I need something in real stark contrast to The Last of US next. Bioshock Infinite sounds like a real mind fuck. But Deux EX Human Revolution is getting a Directors Cut so maybe that? Last of Us isn't perfect Gameplay wise yes, Storywise yes, But it still has AI Glitches and there was one point in the game where the environments didn't load so I just fell into a black void and another glich where I just fell through the floor. Still an Amazing game.
