I agree, at the end of the day everyone know its just to cut down on production cost. I still have my ps3 slim but for some reason one of my USBs dont work... Sony should get new designer too, I've seen wafle makers that look more attractive than any ps3 model.
Same old soup , just re-heated. The PS3 was absolute garbage to be honest and for them to release a cheaper version of their console is all just a gimmick. Fan boy set aside the only good games this console had was , Heavy Rain , God of War and Uncharted. I enjoyed those games a lot but it's ridiculous to release another slim lol
You had a Dreamcast, didn't you? I understand your point of view, the PS2's hardware isn't so great (Splinter Cell comes to mind...) but there is a shitload of games available, maybe if you give it a second chance you'll like some of the games. And a lot of games are (or should be) very cheap to buy second hand, or even new. Not a bad investment even if you end up liking only 1 or 2 games. By the way, they could've restored the Soft PS2 compatibility with the new PS3 launch and guess what... even with jailbroken ps3 slim running them! I would have jailbroken my console if I didn't have my handy PS2 here with me.
I think the sliding mechanism is a nice change. They could've gone with the simple toploader method, but this has been used for over 20 years - why not try something new? It'll look a little cheap anyway.
I said it was my least favorite - I didn't say it was bad. There are some great games for it - Ico, Shadow of Colossus, Katamari Damacy, and MGS2 come to mind. However, it just wasn't as cool as the Gamecube. I know that's not a popular opinion, but that's just how I feel. Also, although the PS2 had some good games, it also had a shit-ton of shitty, half-assed games. Any time I go to GameStop (which is less and less these days), all I see is tons of shovelware in the PS2 section. To find any decent games, you have to go to an independent store or online. And of course, the PS2 probably had the weakest hardware of the last generation (unless you count the Dreamcast), and therefore the PS2 version of any multiplatform game was always the worst. Here's my assessment of the last generation: PS2 had quantity over quality. GC had quality over quantity. Xbox was somewhere in between. I don't consider the DC to be last generation.
XD I was actually thinking the same thing, amazingly enough anyway... I guess Sony is trying to match with Microsoft... and correct me if I am wrong... but doesn't flash based memory get in the way of custom firmware and such other delicacies? also good to be back ^_^
I still dont understand why this forum hates the ps3 so much. When I remember some years back, there was a crazy Wii-hype in this forums and now what? Its dead, no one cares about the Wii and the crappy motion controles anymore (at least with the current state of technology) and Wii's gathering dust worldwide while the ps3 is getting some really good support these days and probably 2013 too. For me, Nintendo is Apple of the videogame industry. Overpriced hardware for the younger masses, living on a hype which can end very fast.
it's still a dick move, who buys the 4GB XBOX anyway? Regardless what's 12GB going to do and how much is 12GB able to be used by the user? 7GB?
12GB New PS3 doesn't seem to come with mounts for a HDD though, you have to buy the mounting kit separately. The 4Gb Xbox S has a nice Matte black finish vs the shinier, shittier look of the HDD model. That alone is worth the extra cost of buying the 4Gb and dropping in a HDD of your own choosing (which is usally bigger and better than stock anyway) The only advantage I can tell from buying the 12Gb model PS3 is that it doesn't seem to come bundled with a crappy game like Fifa (thank god!)
It looks like an 80's home device. So ugly and cheap-looking, i wonder what Sony designers were thinking.
Well the door slides to left with an eject button, when you could just slide it with your hand. Gamespot (I KNOW!) did an unboxing. It's very light, even more cheap feeling plastic than the slim. It looks horrible, and even the drive looks extremely cheap. It's super light most likely due to a smaller heat sink or something?
i don't know... i've been a sonytard for as long as there's been playstations, and while i do try my best to see good in their stuff and like the new shiny things... well, i look at the new slim ps3 and then i look at mine... :sorrow: (please ignore the dead decha at the corner )
I feel out of place here. Yay, it's finally out. Time to buy one, rip it open and hope there's an integrated CELL+RSX chip, plus lower heat values. I need that for modding. Otherwise, the case is uglier than sin, and this is clearly a direct attack at microsoft's 4GB Xbox Slim.
Meh. I got burned when dealing with some PS2s about 7 years ago. (Both figuratively and physically.) Never got anything Sony again. Now that I've seen what has happened to the "miraculous and wonderful" PS3...
