Does anyone on this forum actually own a 'Hello Kitty' XBOX? We've seen lots of incredibly limited XBOX's bought and sold over the years, some even limited to '1' or '5' units - but I'm starting to think this Hello Kitty XBOX is up there with the rarest of the rare, even if it is just a decal sticker (possibly) Did the person who started this thread get the consoles? Perhaps a closer look at the unit might reveal something.
I found this snap of the Hello Kitty console on this (rather impressive) site here: http://imgur.com/gallery/ETwhl The artwork doesn't match up - but they are strikingly similar in layout. Was someone trying to create a fake - but couldn't find the graphics for the characters at the top?
Most sources I've seen online. If you have information that indicates otherwise, kindly share it with us.
They do, but not active any more had it complete in box as well. A google search points you to the thread, but who knows if the images still show up or now.. Majority of consoles that are limited to 1 to 5 are just competition systems, which were not made by Microsoft at all. Like World Racing, Conker Live and Reloaded, and Atari consoles. I'd say you're correct, Hello Kitty is even rarer than say the EA Xbox which has shown up on eBay twice in the last 2 years. I've never seen a Hello Kitty console on eBay in the last 2 years of collecting. Possibly @MoonTar might say otherwise. What are these sources? Fusion-X is wrong, Wikipedia is wrong. If you have/see an actual statement from Samsung talking about the Hello Kitty console being limited to 500 then I'd believe it. Sadly a lot of random numbers were thrown around with limited editions. The biggest fuck up with numbers is the Launch Team, far more than 60 were made - this has only caused many issues with information. We have no clue who came up with them in the first place. There has been far more Launch Teams show up for auction than 60.
The last Hello Kitty Xbox that sold was a few months ago and while the link is dead now one can still see the feedback for it here. It was BIN and sold for 1,500 Euros. Which is way too much to pay in my opinion. One could argue it being the rarest Xbox console but that has a lot to do with where it came from. Many of the bundles from Asia are quite hard to get. For example the blue Halo 2 Xbox, the green Halo 2 Xbox or the regular green Xbox. All of which I have seen fewer for sale than consoles like the EA Xbox, Partner Xbox or even the Hulk Xbox. I am sure if it was released in a larger country we would be seeing them more often. I personally have the Hello Kitty console on my list of consoles to buy but I never expect to get one. Or at least cheap. I still only think they are worth around $1,000 at the most.
I think even $500 for a Pure White is a lot, spending a grand or more on something that was retail seems extremely stupid. I'd save that for a prototype purchase. That's just me anyway. Fuck me though, 1.5k Euros is crazy.
Yeah 1.5k Euros was way way too much. Someone wanted it really bad. $1k would be the "want really bad" price for me. Like I have said before about those Pure Whites. If a seller ever thinks it is worth a lot because it is brand new. Tell them to find one for sale that IS NOT brand new. Seriously, they are all new. It isn't special.
Majority of those prices are within central europe. Italian sellers are the worst. Even Smoke Black consoles go for over a grand. Just because they're complete. Yet they go for next to nothing in Japan, actually complete and 9 times out of 10 better condition than any of those in europe.
I find that most consoles from Japan are in much better condition than anywhere else and they are cheaper. Especially the Smoke Black consoles are a lot cheaper. I also agree with Hex with the numbers made for the systems. Most all the numbers on Wiki are wrong and while no one can prove that 550 is not right, no one can prove it is right either and considering every other number is wrong one can assume 550 is wrong also. And like Hex said, the worst is the number 60 for Launch Team consoles. Clearly someone made that up.
The 550 number is the official number given out at the time, it is actually one of the more accurate numbers out there. That said, there still could be more or less, especially given the cost of the TV that you had to buy. https://web.archive.org/web/2007051...reviews/gadgetbuzz/0,39041749,39220767,00.htm
I wonder if it's just a sticker? If it is, all the tools to make a perfect fake are (sadly) in the sticker kit available loose with the game "Hello Kitty Mission Rescue". Compare most of the pictures on the console with the sticker kit (eBay has pics) I'd say it's worth finding out. As others have pointed out - the intention may have been to produce 550 consoles but it all depends on (a) How many people bought the expensive television set and (b) How many went for the offer? It may have been cheap, but not everyone cares about consoles. There are lots of variables. You'll never really know unless you find someone involved in setting up the promotion (who still remembers)
Yep, which was my caveat. They could have also had more, or had more similar ones for other functions. Its one of those hard things to confirm. But generally speaking, the 550 number is at least sourced.
Great link, if anyone missed it, it has 2 pictures. Click here to get this feline in your face | in a box (you can see the "official" HK lingo on the bottom right & left of the sticker)
One of these is on eBay with a buy it now of $1500 which is nuts. No box or manuals, doesn't work and it's been opened.
