Here's another one for you (if you don't mind).

i've seen this stamped on loads of documentation for electronics items from Japanese companies but have no idea what it means or what it refers to: 上手に使って上手に節電

    Some kind of national slogan?

I've seen it a few times, too, but only recently - it certainly wasn't in common use back when I was living there.

It's one of this things that doesn't really translate that nicely, but what it basically means is "Use this product well; save power" - although "well" is not a very good translation of jozu (上手) maybe "skillful" or "adept" fits better.

Cheers mate. I have some 80s Sharp manuals with it on so it looks like it may have been around a while. Weird.

Googling the phrase seems to only return PDFs with it on, no explanation of why it's there. Is Japan known for power shortages and encouraging their people to conserve energy?

Yeah, even back in the 90's when I was living there there was a large emphasis on saving power - I think it dated back to the 70's oil crisis when the prices went through the roof and the Japanese suddenly realized just how exposed to the markets they were since they had basically no oil of their own.

I need an expert English translation again, this time for the story that appears in the instruction booklet for Space Squash for the Virtual Boy. This time, my deadline to submit it to the team that will be releasing the English version of the game over at Planet Virtual Boy is about 4 months from now, so there should be plenty of time for someone to submit the translation that will be used for the English instruction booklet of the game.

Ah that's pretty interesting stuff - I never realised.

Might have to go looking for the earliest example of that stamp that I can find. :)

    Cheers mate.

    @BenjaminStevens

Here's a draft translation of that text. Drop me a line if you have any questions:

    ------------------------------------
    2. Story

Let me see… Ah yes, far from the galaxy where Earth resides is a place known as Animal Star.
Unique, even among the neighboring systems, this idyllic world exists in a constant state of
    peace and tranquility.

That is, it did, until one fateful day…

Hailing from Devil-vil-vil Star, located just a short distance away, and right around the corner
from the Convenience-Store Star, Nikensen, a group known as the Space-Pirate-Nightmare-Gang
have somehow managed to set up a secret base on Animal Star.

In a state of desperation, the Animal Star chieftain, "Animal 4126th", activated the emergency
beacon to alert the B-Rangers, and intergalactic security force…

"How lovely. Another splendid day to enjoy…", you mutter while catching some sun. Suddenly,
and without warning, "Beep, Be-Beep. Beep, Be-Beep…" starts ringing from the wireless
communicator. "An emergency beacon? But where's it coming from? Animal Star?"

You leap aboard your trusty Piitron and swiftly infiltrate the Nightmare Gang's secret Animal Star
    base.

Only then do you notice the shocking truth… The base is in fact a giant squash court!

"Mua-ha-ha-ha! So here you are at last, Piitron!". "You don't stand a chance of beating us,
not unless you can win at squash!
    "

And so, Piitron entered into battle.
    ------------------------------------

    Cheers!

Many thanks for the translation, djandy76! I'll be sure to credit you with the translation in the Space Squash translation thread over at Planet Virtual Boy.

If I have any questions about possible edits, I'll be sure to drop you a PM. Right now, for the English instruction booklet, I simply plan to write "Convenience-Store Star" and "Space-Pirate-Nightmare-Gang" without the use of hyphens, fix the "and intergalactic security force" to "an intergalactic security force," and write "Piitron" as "Peatron," since this is how the name appears on the machine in the picture on the front of the original box for Space Squash (http://www.planetvb.com/uploads/newbb/1643_4f42b5b6315d8.jpg).

I may also have some questions for you about how to translate certain terms found in other places within the instruction booklet, once I sit down and start to work on the English instruction booklet some time from now.

Any translation for this? I can't get Mario Tennis GC working on an English system. Freeloader, XenoGC, or basic Wii softmod, little difference.
Don't have a disc image to try Dolphin.

Oh no. Really don't want more GC problems that are disc or optical drive related. :mad-new:
Worst one has taken a year and counting to sort out.

It doesn't really say for sure...

    動作確認済みになりますが、長時間の確認はしておりません。予めご了承くださいませ。

Unit operated correctly when tested, but this was a long time ago. Please be aware of this in advance.

    It says it works:

放送はもちろんカセット稼動 CDとも稼動いたします, 傷少し 汚れ少なし 使うには問題ありません ACコード付けます

Radio, Cassete and CD all work, Some dirt and small scratches, no operational problems, AC cord included.
