Been poking around inside Sin and Punishment and happened across this goodie:
    バックアップデータが、破接されています。
    スタートボタンを押すとバックアップデータ
    を初期化し、クームを始めます。

I know it's something about pressing start to initialize backup and start the game, but what exactly is it trying to say?

Are you sure it's transcribed accurately? The last line is pretty clearly wrong (should be ゲームを始めます rather than クームを始めます)and I don't think I've ever seen "破接" as a kanji compound before - if you replace it with 破損 (hason - "corrupted/damaged") then it makes a lot more sense.

In any case, I'm pretty sure that the intended meaning is:

    "Backup data is corrupt.
Press START to initialize backup data and start the game."

    Thanks! You're definitely right.

Yeah, I totally screwed up the transcription. It's written in that annoying over-stylized "font" for the main menu options (16x8 each char, all blocklike), and I don't know enough japanese to guess everything correctly. I always assume it's just something I haven't seen yet ;*)

Can anyone translate this text here please:

It's for a YouTube Video i'm uploading as part of my description of the game is about.

Hello wonderful people who lurk in this fantastic thread! :topsy_turvy:
Any help with these two pieces of paper will help me with a piece of dev hardware I picked up recently.
Dip switches 5, 7 and 8 are the ones I am interested in (and that aren't easy to work out)!

    Thanks in advance! :loyal:

    DSW1: 7
    Maximum capacity 32M Up / 64M Down
    DSW1: 6
    EEPROM capacity 4M down / 8M up
    DSW1: 5
Map Mode 20 down 21 Up
    DSW1: 4-1
    16K DUUD
    64K UDUD
    256K UDDU
Note: Settings other than those shown are prohibited

Note: DSW1-7 is only effective if 8M EEPROMS are in use
(In the case you are using 32M, be sure the switch is off)

    Note: DSW1-8 is not used

    *1 Use JEDEC type EEPROMS

    Example: 4M EPROM: Hitachi HN27C4000G
    8M EPROM: NEC uPD27C8001D

    - Access time within 200nS
    (For high-speed mode, use 120nS)

    - EPROM is replaced with program (? maybe this means it should be pre-programmed?)

    - Do not mix EPROMS of different capacities

Can someone please help translate these usernames as I'm not sure if I'm reading some of the usernames wrong or if some of them really are just weird as I'm trying to find if some of them have websites I can link to or not.

It's only the kanji ones that are getting me confused. I have already worked out the hiragana, katakana ones and I know who the very last one in kanji is (as she shipped the book internationally for me).

Since it looks like nobody is helping with this, here is what I can work out - but I should warn you that my Japanese is not that great and names can be very hard because they often have unique readings. There are really only a few that look like they might be names, to be honest. For the rest, I've put what I think the readings might be - but it's entirely possible that I'm wrong.

    犬丸アカギ INUMARU, akagi
    燗薙羽 kan nagi hane ???
    小日向らいち KOHINATA, raichi
笹の助 sasa no suke (Like "assistant of bamboo")
    葉式 hashiki (the suffix "wafer")
腹減モグ夫 haragen mogu otto (literally "belly down MOG husband")
    荊園 keien (like "thorn garden")
    槇名 makimei
    まゆげ 灰粉 mayuge haiko
    村井 忍 MURAI, shinobu
モノクロ絵中 monokuro echu (like "black and white image")
    六色柴乃助 rokuiro shiba osamu suke
    若宮 wakamiya

Thank you very much. Just the readings of the kanji works for me.

I recognize a couple of them now as they don't normally sign their works with kanji so that will make it a lot easier to link to sites or art site profiles.

It was just really bugging me reading the doujinshi and seeing some familiar looking artwork that I just couldn't place.

Well, I'm glad it helped, even if just a little. Names were one of the things I always had huge problems with in Japanese, since in a lot of cases the kanji had readings that were simply not used in any other context. I'm sure a native speaker would do a much better job :smile-new:

    @Lamont, TriMesh

Sorry to jump in, but I think a couple of the readings are a little off:

    腹減モグ夫 -> Haraheri Moguo (はらへりもぐお)
    六色柴乃助 -> Rokushiki Shibanosuke (ろくしきしばのすけ)

I completely agree about names being among the toughest aspects of Japanese though.
No matter how many you "learn", they just get more and more difficult to decipher!

Yeah, that looks reasonable - I should have got "rokushiki", since now I think about it it's one of the ones I've seen before.

    Thanks for the corrections.

I'll have a look for the artists' websites or profiles today, so both of your help has really helped out a lot and this will help me with the kanji next time around.

What does this say? I found it on a site called "Cutting the room floor" and it is a leftover from a demo of the game. The owner of the site has no idea what it says, but I was hoping someone would translate this for me. (probably something about buying the game).

From what I can read (and apologies as this may be inaccurate):

    Thank you for playing!

There are lots of other campaigns to play in the "Sonic Mega Collection"

On sale this Winter. Please look forward to it!

    Not 100% sure about the middle line but that's just how I'm reading it as. >_<;

    Hope this may help.

Hoping someone can help with this - it's driving me nuts. I can post a picture if needed.

    "R"を設定するとファイルに書き込みを行なった後すぐにVERIFYチエックをするため、正しく書き込みが行なわれていることを確認することができます○

"R" is a parameter to a function call. The text seems to say something along the lines of setting this flag causes a VERIFY process to run which checks that the file is correct after it is written.

Unfortunately, I'm finding it difficult to confirm the behaviour of this flag so I thought I'd better have the translation looked it. :)

    Thanks guys.
