Do any mainstream players have FLAC support? I don't think you can really diss a player for not having it, and realistically I bet if you get an ipod touch / iphone theres probably a FLAC capable player somewhere in the app store.

Now what I would like is a device with dedicated NSF/SPC/etc playback

For £25 there were some SERIOUS improvements. The entire operating system was completely rebuilt. It may only look slightly different but use Snow Leopard for a week and then go back to Leopard for a week. The changes are vast, and the performance differences are incredible. Service packs on windows never really add anything new, they're just a culmination of thousands of bug fixes, a new version of IE and WMP that nobody likes. I'm not surprised they're free.

There's a big difference between the words "service" and "upgrade".

As for Lion, I've had to roll back to SL because Apple don't allow iOS code provisioning on Lion yet and again I'm having a hard time living without the new features. Everyone keeps throwing dirt at Apple for turning the Mac into the iPad but it's nothing to do with that, the new way of controlling every aspect of the desktop is nothing short of revolutionary and cuts work load time down significantly. I occasionally use a mouse with my Macbook when using Snow Leopard, I know for sure that when I make the full switch to Lion I'll never use one again. Nevertheless, the fact that the finder face isn't new and shiny will cause all of the Apple critics to argue that it's not a new OS, even though it very much is.

Am I an Apple groupie...no, but I do have to use the operating system due to the work that I do, and naturally that has just transferred into my personal life. It's a genuinely trouble free, quick and simple operating system.

As computing enthusiasts we feel the need to have control over every aspect of our machines, every byte, every file name, every folder. But it has to be remembered that the majority of home computer users don't want fuss or hassle, they don't understand drivers or the difference between 32 and 64bit.

I truly believe that if Apple cut down their hardware prices or made the OS transferable to other systems windows really would have a huge fight on it's hands. It's just so so simple and if you really want to get into the nitty gritty of the OS and file system then you can, all of this "Apple has locked down stuff" is bullshit. The Apple OS is as open as ever and the iPhone has restrictions in order to ensure the success of the App Store and stop mass piracy...one thing I am truly grateful for otherwise I'd be a very poor man desperately looking for another job.

There are plenty of reasons to hate Apple but I can think of just as many when it comes to Microsoft and it really gets on my tits when people go Apple bashing without any of the facts, and what's worse is if I stick up for what I personally prefer I get pointed at as some kind of Apple drone who only eats apples, buys apple products and sucks Steve Jobs cock...none of which are true.

If you mean portables, then yes, over the last few years there have been lots - mostly small companies trying to make a niche for themselves based on an expanded feature set, or trying to target the higher end of the market. If you mean software then any modern player will either play FLAC natively or will have a codec download available. iTunes is the exception here, because in their infinite wisdom Apple won't let you add FLAC as an extra codec, despite plenty of demand. Instead you have to use a separate app to convert to ALAC, Apple's own lossless codec. In this day and age? You can't tell me that's anything other than utter bullshit.

Rockbox will do that for you.

That is odd, can you add the songs individually?

    Nope, it doesn't wotk.

On my nano i have it set to manually add music and videos and i drag from the library and drop onto ipod and let it copy the files which it does. On the shuffle i do the same and it show the copying 1 of?? for a few seconds before disappearing and showing the syncing ipod do not disconnect text.

yeap, apparently the guy wanted to hurt her feelings. I am honestly curious what he was on, the consequences alone should have scared the fuck out of him.

It seriously fucks me off when people call the next Xbox the '720'. THEY'RE NOT GOING TO CALL IT THAT OR EVEN USE IT AS A CODE NAME. SERIOUSLY WTF?! If anything they should call it the Xbox360-2. Stupid people.

Surely the Xbox Space Heater or Xbox Reliable might be a better choice of name.

Does anyone have any opinions on people buying things on eBay/Yahoo Japan/etc., then immediately selling them on the forum for a vastly inflated price? Personally, I think it fucking stinks.

Let's take the case of the Saturn dev kit on eBay recently:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120710881641&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

As we can see, it was listed at $260 but was ended early and consisted of what looked like a CartDev Saturn target (with the Cross VCD port), a PsyQ cart, one of the early "prototype" multitaps, a grey controller, 2 Western "spoon" controllers, a MadCatz controller, two common PAL games and what looks like a PAL Saturn instruction manual. Now I might have considered it just about worth $260 with the multitap, but I wouldn't pay $260 for the console and cart alone.

Not long after, Jackhead asked what exactly he'd bought, linking to the auction in the Saturn forum.

10 days after the auction, Jackhead put up his for sale thread. It included what appeared to be a CartDev Saturn target with a PsyQ cart and one controller, no manuals, no software, no cables. He was asking 600 Euros.

I queried this, and he said that he closed a private deal with the seller for considerably more. Well, if that's the case, I'm sorry to say you paid well over the odds for it, Jackhead. He also mentioned that he'd sold the multitap to a forum member. Well, I doubt he paid more than $850 (i.e. 600 Euros) for the entire lot... and he's sold the multitap on for God knows how much. What he doesn't know is that I was watching the auction and I still have record of it from before it had a bid - start price $260, buy it now $550.

Now, I find it a bit much to ask a community what exactly you have just bought, and then immediately try to sell it to them for a huge profit. As it is, we watch these items, so we'd know what they went for. However, asking what you bought is only drawing more attention to the fact you bought it!

Kev deleted my post, as it was against the marketplace rules - fair enough. Still, a couple of members had agreed with me before the posts were deleted. Perhaps that was enough to make Jackhead think twice about doing something like that again?

    Was it hell!

About 11 days ago, Jackhead made this post:

    http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=491759&postcount=442

    Today, he makes this post:

    http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=496235&postcount=9

So, was the original auction nearly 1800 Euros including shipping? I somehow doubt it, as that hardly seams like a great deal to me!

To anyone who is thinking of buying something from an auction site and then immediately selling it on to us on the forum marketplace:

    • We watch the auction sites.
    • We will probably have seen your item.
    • We will know what you paid for it.
    • We know the value of items - notice how we'll laugh at Barry Ling's pricing.
    • We are not stupid. Please don't treat us as such by trying to rip us off.

I didn't vote for Bush (actually never voted Republican) and I can't say I supported many of his policies. But what gets me is the insanely childish and over-the-top comments about the man.

Wanted for crimes against humanity? Um, sure. Worst President ever? Sure. Like any of us really have any kind of deep understanding of the previous Presidents to even think to make a comment like that. But for some it just rolls off the tongue for the sole purpose of mental masturbation. And some people apparently have an endless supply of tissues and lotion.

The fact is that you can disagree with the man or not support him without coming across like an angry 16-year old who just had the car keys taken away by Daddy. At the end of the day you're responsible for your own words. Bush didn't "make you that way." You did it to yourself.

I think the last one you mentioned wasn't too bad. I've done it before. Went to buy a game and saw a deal so good with extra's that the game basically paid for its self when split up. Granted I didn't ask a bullshit price, I basically just broke even the few times I did it.
